This little piggie went to the market... We all know the familiar or do we? Why did one little piggy go while the other stayed behind? And what could have sent the littlest piggy running at such a clip toward home? Now David Martin spills the whole hoggy truth in five little stories, each hilariously illustrated by Susan Meddaugh, creator of MARTHA SPEAKS, MARTHA CALLING, and other popular picture books. Children will love this zany new take on a favorite game.

Readers of David Martin's books won't be surprised when they meet the author and find that he is just as entertaining as his books - he sings, plays the guitar or the kazoo, or even juggles during his school visits. As David Martin says, "I have never minded particularly making a fool of myself," so he is never at a loss to illustrate his points or to make a connection with the kids. In his interactive sessions, he also works with students to create their own books or to produce oversized class books. The author's ease in the classroom comes from his hands-on teaching experience: he's an eighteen-year veteran of elementary and middle schools.
A native of Queens, Martin has lived in northeast Vermont with his family since 1970.
David Martin cleverly takes the This Little Piggy rhyme and creates the back story for each of the five pigs. The book is easily accessible by dividing it into five separate stories which could be divided up and shared by different readers. Susan Meddaugh of Marth Speaks fame does the illustrations which are filled with many talking bubbles which can also be read by different readers. Fun book to have at home or in school.
A picture book in 5 chapters telling a story about each of the 5 little piggies. This piggie mama indulges her piggie children. My favorite was chapter 5, where the little piggie left a friend's house and went "wee, wee, wee," all the way home. Thought this would be perfect to read after some nursery rhymes. One K4 class enjoyed it; one didn't seem to.
I chose this book because it was read to me as a child. This book was not as interesting as I remember it as a child. The story of each piggy is short and not done as well as it could be, it is clever, but not amazing writing. Also, I think that the illustrations are good and colorful, but they are generic children's book illustrations that are regularly seen.
WHY did the first pig go to market? WHY did the second stay home? WHY did the third have roast beef? Cuz, ew, pigs eating cows... I can imagine why the fourth pig had none. But exactly WHY did the last little piggy go "wee, wee, wee, wee all the way home?"
All the answers to the questions you never thought you had are found in this book!
My favorite kids' books have great, colorful images, simple text, and some humor. This book fits the bill! While I'm usually not a fan of bathroom humor, this book passed with flying colors. I get a giggle out of it every time! All my kids -- 5, 9 and 12 -- crack up when I read it.
