I read it in French! A quick comfort read. It's very cute and wholesome, with compelling characters who each have their defining characteristics and quirks.
I love the main trio, they have my heart, but (fake) Momonga is my absolute favorite, and I care about the (real) Momonga and their story too.
I really like how, while most of the stories seem to be unrelated slice of life moments, there is a discreet continuity to the story.
But, strangely enough, the best part is the lore itself. You think it's just stories about cute creatures full of childlike wonder, and then BAM the economy. BAM monsters. BAM Momonga's entire deal. The looming threat of monsters and magic make the story so much more interesting.
Not something I expected to enjoy, but it's really sweet, charming, cute, and funny. I love Chiikawa and Hachiware's friendship; Hachiware is truly joyous and is a beacon of sensibility and light in little Chiikawa's life. They remind us to face adversity with a smile and appreciate the possibilities and little moments of life :)
For all it's cuteness I find that the darker elements are just as endearing. It isn't real life but it can feel like it. The struggles of the main three are fantastical but can also feel close to home at the same time. It's endearing. Cute characters going through it are always going to add another layer to their cuteness.
Decided to read this after watching the anime, and I must say, it is so adorable! it made me smile so much and I am looking forward to reading the next volume too.
