After childhood plans to become the captain of a starship didn’t pan out, Suzanne Brockmann took her fascination with military history, her respect for the men and women who serve, her reverence for diversity, and her love of storytelling, and explored brave new worlds as a bestselling romance author.

Over the past thirty years she has written sixty-three novels, including her award-winning Troubleshooters series about Navy SEAL heroes and the women—and sometimes men—who win their hearts. Her personal favorite is the one where her most popular character, gay FBI agent Jules Cassidy, wins his happily-ever-after and marries the man of his dreams. Called All Through the Night, this mainstream romance novel with a hero and a hero hit the New York Times hardcover fiction bestseller list. In 2007, Suz donated all of her earnings from this book, in perpetuity, to MassEquality, to help win and preserve equal marriage rights in Massachusetts.

In addition to writing books, Suz writes and produces indie movies and TV including the award-winning romantic comedy The Perfect Wedding. Her recent feature, Out of Body, is streaming on Amazon Prime.

In 2018, Suz was given the Nora Roberts Lifetime Achievement Award from the Romance Writers of America. Her latest projects are Blame It on Rio (Tall, Dark & Dangerous # 14), available in print and e-book from Suzanne Brockmann Books, and Marriage of Inconvenience, a six-episode LBGTQ rom-com TV series, streaming on Dekkoo in April 2023.

This is an entertaining, well-written, steamy, contemporary, short romance novel. It has likable, engaging characters, an older woman, younger man, sizzling romance, wit, humor, suspense, twists and turns, and a happily ever after ending. I have read and thoroughly enjoyed every one of Ms. Brockmann's outstanding Troubleshooters novels and novellas, and her newsletter convinced me to read this book, and it was worth it! I really enjoyed the Star Trek references.

Opening line:"Ellen Layne knew it was a mistake to leave the house without a book."

Originally published in 1997 and at just 215 pages LADIES MAN is your average stand-alone romance. Not my favourite of Brockman’s however it’s a quick read and stands up fine today. I enjoyed all the characters and while the plots quite basic it is helped along by a plausible enough stalker mystery and some hot older woman-younger man lovin.

Of course I should mention that the first 5 chapters (1/4 of the book) is taken up exclusively by ‘the limo ride’ and that’s reason in itself to read this book. Yum.

Ellen Layne is in the airport newsstand glancing over the bestsellers when she see’s him;

“From the back he was a living breathing advertisement for Buns of steel”

All faded jeans, blond hair and impossibly handsome. According to Ellen he looks even better from the front too. Unfortunately for Ellen he’s also at least 10 years younger then she is. But what, oh he’s seen her looking, checking him out. He’s coming over now, flirting with her with those blue eyes, dimples and perfect teeth. Damn even his voice is sexy. I wonder how old he really is?

So I absolutely loved the beginning of this book. It is just the perfect fantasy, older woman meets younger gorgeous man and through mistaken identity and happenstance they wind up sharing a limo together. Sam the ‘ladies man’ puts the moves on Ellen as they tour around New York drinking champagne and taking in the sights. Ellen in a moment of recklessness allows herself to give in to the fantasy and experience a night of unbridled passion. A little something to remember because surely this player won’t want anything more then that? Sam however in an uncharacteristic move phones her the very next day hoping to see her again and in a ‘this is how the other side must feel’ move Ellen turns him down cold.

Unfortunately after chapter five the whole feel of the book changes and it’s no longer great --it’s okay. As it turns out Ellen is recovering from a divorce, has 2 precocious (see annoying) children and although a professor wants to try her luck at acting over the summer. She’s staying with her Uncle Bob, a famous talk show host when the phone calls start. They are soon accompanied by hate mail and then of course the police get involved. Fate intervenes here because who do you think is a member of the NYPD? Well it’s Sam the ladies man of course and he’s got some unfinished business with Ellen but first he’s got to figure out who the increasingly violent stalker is and possibly step in front of a bullet in the name of love.

So the ending is pretty exciting, oooh who’s the stalker? Who’s his intended victim? And the beginning… sigh. But the middle part as well as being so different from the beginning floundered to me. And as much as I liked Sam, he was supposed to be a ‘ladies man’ (hell that’s what the books called) yet as much as I was told this I never saw it from him. He was just a nice guy who seemed to be searching for someone to settle down with. Maybe if his character had been flushed out a bit more. Cheers!

This "Ladies Man" is the reprint of Suzanne Brockmann's 1997 Loveswept release. It has all the tension, romance, and action Brockmann's fans crave. Her slick pacing and skill with writing passionate scenes without resorting to purple prose is as evident in this '97 book as it is in her releases today.

Fans of the older woman, younger man romances should put this one on their 'must have' list.

I picked this up because it was not a full book and I needed something quick to read and not too involved. I enjoyed this "little" book. It was easy to read, moved right along, well developed characters. Nice romance! Took me about 4 hours to read the entire book. PERFECT!

This was a cute and quick read/listen. It's not very heavy on the suspense, but Brockmann does it extremely well anyway. I didn't pay too much attention, I chose this novella because it seemed light and fun, so maybe that's why I didn't see the ending, and it took me by slight surprise. Of course a book blurb I read beforehand says Sam/hero takes a bullet intended for Ellen/heroine, when that turns out not to be the case, but that's the blurb's fault, not mine or Brockmann's. I don't have many book peeves, but this one hit on two of them - more than one kid involved and older woman/younger man. I don't know why they bother me so much, but they do, and even with those it was still pretty fun. I loved the other characters, would love to hear more about Aunt Alma, didn't get to see much of her. Also Uncle Bob was great, would really love to hear more about him. Sadly because this is a novella, there isn't time to tell their story, but one thing you can count on in a Suzanne Brockmann book - her characters are well developed and interesting, and diverse. There's never really been one character in all the books of hers I've read that didn't feel complete, which I'm sure is a hard task to accomplish. I would definitely recommend this book if you love Brockmann, or if you've never read any of her books, this is a great quick introduction that will not disappoint and leaving you wanting more from her, it did me!

"Ellen Layne knew it was a mistake to leave the house without a book." This first sentance had my hooked. Heck, I would give it 5 stars on that alone! But, this is a romance with a little mystery, not to mention a lot of humor. I LOVE this book. Straight romance is NOT my genre, but this is a wonderful, fun book. Ellen and Sam meet at the airport and spend a night in the limo of Elen's uncle - a late night talk host. A lot of steamy sex later, Ellen decides that it was only a one night stand. You see, there is a 10 year age difference, and by the way, Ellen has 2 teanage kids (Sam doesn't know about) and her ex was a handsome SOB who cheated on her for most of their marriage. Hey, it was only a one night stand Right?? Except, It was more for "Ladies' Man" Sam who has to overcome a lot and catch a stalker too.

Better than expected. I was a sweet story and just the right amount of tension between the two main characters.

Suz always writes amazing heroes. It's a given - you go into these loving the guys. But her leading ladies are always women who are so sub-par that I can't help but cringe, and this is no different.

Ellen (<< even the name is milquetoast) is a divorced mom stuck teaching remedial college English who feels stagnant. She thinks if she goes to NYC and tries out acting, life will be SOOOOO much better. She just needs a new town, a new gig, and maybe a fling.

Except she doesn't once go out to see/enjoy the town, hates most of the gigs, and spends the ENTIRE book running away from the sure fling. She's miserable, miserable to read about, lackluster in every way. There's no joy, no spunk, no *ANYTHING* good in Ellen, so frankly the reader can't figure out WHY this drop-dead hunk of a man would want her. Except we're told she's absolutely, astoundingly beautiful. So... superficial reasons. Those are always great.

Frankly, I saw Suz the entire time I was reading this. Middle aged woman, two kids (son and daughter, although she switched birth order in a weak attempt to disguise that she was writing about herself), absolutely nothing of interest about her, so she puts herself into fictional scenarios in her career in order to try to validate herself.

The whole stalker situation was implausible - the chauffer would never give Bob's private number to his sister-in-law, hello. And there's no way he would know when/where Ellen and Same were going to be, let alone where Jamie's audition was. It was absolutely grasping.

More, if a killer is drawing aliens and talking about aliens and probes? The police would look at ALL of the people around the targets, and T.S. and his alien book would jump to the top of the list, first thing off, hello. The fact that this doesn't even factor until the last ten pages is ridiculous. T.S. showed up the SAME TIME as the killer and Ellen and the kids. It would've been a thread the investigation would've covered.

That's not to say I didn't like the book. I'm just sayin' that Sam wouldn't suddenly give up his loose, promiscuous lifestyle for two squabbling teens, a disinterested divorced woman with so much relationship baggage you can't see out from under it. He wouldn't. Ever. It's completely out of character for a man who's lived as he has, for as long as he has. Especially with someone as NOT interesting as Ellen.

**MINOR SPOILERS**
I have liked this author for a long time. She has not written as much lately, so when I picked this book up, it reminded me all over again why I liked her. I am reading it over 20 years after it was written, but it stands the test of time.
Sam, the main male character, was great. He is open and honest and caring. The author describes his good looks as part of the reason he is a ladies’ man, but his character would have been appealing as well.
Ellen, the main female character, was dealing with trust issues because of her first marriage. This was dealt with realistically and brought up often. It would have been good to have a little more depth to her character.
The dialogue was realistic and sometimes very funny. The author knows how to turn a phrase both in dialogue as well as in the writing in general. She brings out the emotion of the moment.
There were a couple of minor plot holes. For example, when Ellen and her family needed a bodyguard, Sam was able to do it. It was never explained how he was able to take time off from his job. Was he assigned as a bodyguard? Did he take vacation?
Jamie, Ellen’s son, goes around the house at night and spies on people. He was aware of events that happened at night. This was unrealistic. He would not have been able to do that night after night and then been able to go to auditions during the day. Perhaps this could have been explained a little better – did he do it one night only?
Despite the above criticisms, I recommend this book. If you are looking for the depth of her longer books, you will not find it. She does a lot with the pages she has and I liked it.

Was der Stalker jetzt wollte, kein Plan.
Da denkt man dann an Kino, Essen gehen, Eislaufen, was weiß ich. Er will mit ihr im Central Park joggen gehen. Joggen. Bei einem Date. Joggen. Ihr wisst schon, dieses sportliche Laufen.
Frage mich, wie Suzanne Brockman Bestellerautorin geworden ist.

Hidden Treasure

I thought I had read every SB until I was cruising my kindle and found Ladies Man. Sweet, fun mystery. Lovable characters. Even though we now live in edgier times, this book doesn't feel dated.

Thanks for adding original publish dates. Wish Kindle made that a required display.....along with any previous titles.

Suz, that publisher was shortsighted to destroy anything of yours!

I really like Suzanne Brockmann's books' but this was a huge MISS. It started off well and then the same whiny, wimpy "heroine" and a weak ending which didnt make much sense. It could have gone much better. The writing was so poor as well, I really suggest, saving your time and reading something else.

Sam and Ellen meet while waiting for passengers of an inbound flight. She thinks he's cute and young; he thinks she's just plain hot. The suspense is actually pretty good for a rom-sus book and it certainly was a quick easy read.

3.5 stars. Gorgeous younger, hot cop attracted to older academic mom of 2. It’s not believable that he falls so quickly and is chasing her but it’s definitely a cute hea. I didn’t mark it may to dec because the difference is less than 10 yrs

True romance writer

I recently read that you never stray from the first author you loved. That is Susanne Brockmann to me. I have not read a book of hers I didn't like.

This is a well written, well developed love story. No one I have found can weave a love story like Suzanne.

short story, very brief, and takes place over a couple of weeks at the end of which they are in love and getting married. Wouldn't call it great, and it's not her best work but not bad either.

The sexy young man at the airport bookshop was checking her out! And Ellen couldn’t keep herself from throwing caution to the wind and flirting back. But when he asks for her number, Ellen knows this Ladies’ Man is not one for commitment and besides, she’d be robbing the cradle, he’s got to be ten years younger. But fate has other ideas, and it seems that the person Sam is to meet is the same person Ellen is meeting. They share a very long limo ride alone, and end up stuck in traffic for hours. They can’t keep their hands off each other, and soon find themselves mostly naked and having the most combustible sex either have had. Sam’s astonished when Ellen announces that, though the encounter is one she’ll never top, she doesn’t want to see him again. Ellen’s Uncle a TV talk show host, is being stalked. But Ellen and her two teenage kids are also in the lime light with their tv commercials and guest appearances on Soaps. To Ellen’s dismay the NYPD detective that handles this case is Sam, and he’ll be living with her and her kids in her Uncle’s home. Sam’s not sure who the target of the threatening letters that start to arrive, and the nasty dirty phone calls Ellen and her daughter, Lydia receive. Sam’s determined to have a relationship with Ellen, but is he ready to give up his playboy ways, and can she get over her older woman, younger man hang-ups.

There’s much more to this book than the sizzling chemistry. The stalker plot is done quite well, with the stalker becoming bolder with his threats. There’s a wonderful twist to that plot that I hadn’t seen coming. This was an audio I downloaded from Audible, and I found it the perfect book to help raking the numerous willow twigs at Mom’s a chore not so minded. I know I would love this book in print, but it was a wonderful treat as an audio. The narrator is very talented, and her various accents were exceptional. Sam had always been a player but events in his life had him thinking of changes. Ellen’s a divorcee whose ex-husband had been cheating on her for years, so she’s gun shy. Both are great characters. Suzanne Brockman delivers again in this sizzling romantic suspense. I’ll be happy to listen to this one again!
