After a long list of emotional stories of MBFB I have been reading since the past month, I thought of taking a break and going to slightly light novel. As usual I picked a book by my favorite author currently Mo Bao Fei Bao. As I have been prattling on and on about how she is a great author I would not continue to do so here and dive into the story.

As I have mentioned earlier, the plot of this book is slightly simpler than the previous of hers and run the same circle as Stewed Squid with Honey and can easily be seen as a drama too. This only consists of the childhood friends scope that the author had not used before. All though it all seems to be cliches points as always MBFB manages to make it much more than that. Another aspect that I have noticed in her stories are that the male protagonist always has a male friend/colleague who is almost like his wing-man and constantly brings the comedic aspect of the story too. Here we have Xie Bin, our agent of Bianlin.

At first I was not sure of how I felt the story was progressing. Chu Jian did not seem to like BianLin at all and it almost felt as if he was backing her to a corner. Until the point where he did not accept their relationship (non romantic at that point) and she was hurt by it, I was constantly finding BianLin a bit too forceful. Later on w can see that their feelings are in fact mutual and the sweet epilogue manages to tie up the story so sweetly.

Although this can easily fall under the typical Chinese romance novels, the writing and maybe my preference to the author makes it personally different to me.

In conclusion this was a very sweet change from the usual MFBF novels which I've read and a nice dip in the valley of fluff.

I am not sure how I feel about this one...

The second half was cute and I liked being in Chu Jian's head as she became aware of her feelings for JBL. However, I never really warmed to him because he was so emotionally manipulative in the first half. It helped that they were both aware of it but he used her -completely unwarranted- guilt to keep her in his life.

If this ever becomes a drama I know MBFB will be forced to add nonsense so I might skip it. If they cast Song Weilong as JBL I might not. 😂

This was a re-read. Tbh, I don't know what's about this book that makes me re-read it from time to time. There's some problems with it and I don't agree with some of Jian Bianlin's actions but I guess I'm just a sucker for romance where the male lead is utterly, hopelessly in love with the female lead.
