Note from I created this 12-Minute process in order to write my memoir. The first draft of every chapter in Amish Girl in Manhattan was handwritten. After I started offering lessons to others who also struggled with writing, I realized that I had a gift for conveying the Show, don't Tell technique. It makes or breaks your stories. It can addict people to your voice, make you unforgettable, and help you rise above the noise on social media.
But first, before you're ready to master that aspect of the craft (which gives you a powerful competitive advantage), you have to master the habit of writing daily. That is the purpose of the 12-Minute Writing Guide .
Torah Bontrager, born and raised traditional Amish, speaks English as a second language and grew up with no electricity, no TV, no radio, no Internet, no cars, and up until the age of 10, no running hot water and no indoor bathroom.
She's the author of Amish Girl in Manhattan (a crime memoir) and is, to her knowledge, the first--and so far, only--Amish escapee to graduate from an Ivy League school.
Torah's story and work have been featured on Tim Ferriss' blog, Forbes.com, NPR, MTV, and HuffPost. She has a BA in Philosophy from Columbia University in New York City, and now advocates for the right of Amish women and children to go to school beyond the 8th grade.
