Hawkins Ranch; Previous Knowing Caleb
Contemporary Western Menage Suspense

Deputy Jace Maxwell looks out for Sarah Tennison, and wants her. Although the fiery feisty woman is a friend, he knows he can’t have her. Because as much as he craves Sarah, he also lives with a secret, fierce attraction for men. And Sarah just won't understand.

Sarah has suppressed her love for Jace, knowing he only sees her as a chore. Enter cowboy Jasper Simmons. Jasper is as sweet and gentle as Jace is hard. Sarah tries to keep both men separate in her mind, but can’t stop fantasizing about being tangled and sweaty in bed with both of them.

When Jasper finds a dead woman nailed to a tree, he is thrown into contact with Jace. The proximity unearths an attraction neither of them had felt before. Seeing Jace with Jasper in an emotion-filled situation gets Sarah wondering if her roommate is keeping secrets. Then Jasper admits to Sarah he once had a crush on another man, Jace suddenly kisses her in a shocking lapse of control, and suddenly Sarah's fantasies are taking on a vivid reality.

Will sweet, awkward Jasper be the key to two becoming three?

I am an air force brat and spent most of my growing up years living overseas in Italy and England, as well as Florida, Georgia, Ohio, and Virginia while we were stateside. I now live in Florida once again with my big, wonderfully pushy family and my three-legged cat, Harry. I have been reading romance novels since I was twelve years old, and twenty years later I still adore them. Currently, I have an unexplainable obsession with hockey goaltenders, and an unabashed affection for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

This was such a sweet read. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did, but I wanted to read something different. This is the first MMF book I have read in full. I’ve started a couple that didn’t work out. This one did because Sarah (the heroine) turned out to be a pleasant surprise. She wasn’t yet another victim of abuse or some damsel in distress. She was strong willed but super sweet….and she talked DIRTY. Yup! I loved her! Of course, the guys were hot as hell dirty talkers too. As much as I loved the heroine, I will admit that when the guys were together, it brought home the fact that I am definitely more about the MM romances.

The story isn’t just about the hot sex these three are having. One of the guys, Jace, is a Deputy and he is tasked with investigating the murder of a local girl. I found the crime/drama part of the story just as interesting as the romance developing between Sarah, Jasper, and Jace.

Hmmm... This was a sizzling hot read but I can't say it's my favourite book in the "Quinten, Montana" series, the main reason being that Jasper and Sarah felt like teenagers, even at twenty-four; only Jace came across as an adult.

Because of that, I couldn't really feel the connection between these three characters, deep down I wasn't convinced their menage would work in the long run. Despite the promises to the contrary, my gut told me Jasper and Sarah were probably just experimenting, since they had no (Sarah) or limited (Jasper) sexual experience before they hooked up, and that sooner or later their arrangement would blow over like a house of cards.

Other than that, the menage sex scenes were well done and felt natural. I didn't really care about the f/m scenes so I can't really comment on them and the m/m scenes were OK but, knowing what C. Dane is capable of (see Grey's Awakening, for example) they left me wanting more.

The crime part was well delivered and the way it was solved didn't feel contrived. The reason behind the murders was interesting, to say the least.

I also enjoyed revisiting the other characters in the series, like Cade and Ren and Sheriff Boone and even young Ty.

All in all this wasn't a bad addition to the series at all. I enjoyed it and even developed a soft spot for Jace, which, well, was unexpected.

ETA: One last thing. The blond guy on the cover (who I guess is Jasper) is also a vampire. You don't believe me? See the cover and the blurb of this book.

So after more than a year of not reading much but MM books I was really looking forward to reading something different, something I had missed a whole lot: an MMF story. And since I absolutely adored ReneCade I figured another book in that series would be the best place to start in on what I was craving.

Yeah, that didn't really work out so well.

I wanted to like the book more but the characters felt very 2-dimensional; the head-hopping didn't really help with getting a clear picture of each MC as they were presented. I remember Jasper from the other books but felt like I learned very little about him other than his confused attraction to Jace (and Caleb, initially, which made him open to the possibilities of being with Jace). I liked Sarah's adventurous spirit but for most of the story she felt like the glue holding them all together. Jace was much more interesting with his past experiences of being in a couple of menages and yet yearning for a true triad - an equally physical AND emotional - relationship instead, his struggle with alcohol, his friendship with Hunter forcing him to keep secrets from Hunter's sister (Sarah).

Even more interesting was the murdered woman. I almost wish she had her own book prior to being killed. Which, I guess is a bit of an indictment of the tale as whole that I'd rather read about a dead woman than the one we're presented. *shrug* The case was also pretty dull and I guessed the killer right off the bat - I hate when it's that easy; I do have to give props for how Jace had to face his fears, demons and hurts in dealing with the guy...opening up like that to get a confession felt pretty brutal. I wish we'd been given a little more of the details of him doing that to solve the other cases with the FBI instead of the brush off - I think being inside his head for that would have given his reunion with Jasper & Sarah, his breaking down emotionally for them, a little more impact. I probably would have even rounded up (giving it 3.5+ stars).

But, the sex scenes were reasonably hot - especially Jasper's first time with Jace, and that last scene with Jace being comforted and loved by Jasper and Sarah at the same time. I did find myself cringing at the repeated use of the female C-word...guess it will take some time for my mind to slide back into expecting lots of female parts after so long with only the cocks.

Still, having Hunter return sparked my interest and I'm definitely gonna read that one. Wounded Warriors have a special place in my heart and if CD can do half as well with his story as she did with Cade's then I'll be happy.

This was a great read and everything I want from a menage read. I really adored this book and all the characters in it.

the secondary characters made a real impression on me and I loved that. but the main characters were the real selling point.

Sarah, Jasper and Jace are great. their feelings for each other and how this relationship developed was exceptional well written. I adored this.

the plot of the book was very well done as well and I had no idea till the end who the murderer could be

Cameron Dane writes perfect menage books and I am sure to read the next one she brings out!

this is a book I absolutely recommend to all who want to read a great menage!!!!!

I always appreciate characters that come across authentically, and Cameron Dane has pulled that off in this novel. Set in contemporary times, this novel is a continuation of a series involving people who are connected to the Hawkins Ranch and the community surrounding it. The heroine is the receptionist for the local sheriff's office and is currently living with one of the deputies, the best friend of her brother Hunter who has been deployed to the Middle East. They are housemates although both have long secretly loved one another. But it is the old thing about not getting involved with your best friend's sister, etc. So while Deputy Jace Maxwell stews in his unrequited love, Sarah Tennison has now become involved with a ranch hand on the Hawkins Ranch, Jasper Simmons. Their relationship is built on a four-year friendship during which Jasper has slowly come to realize that he is a good person and is truly "good enough" for Sarah. Both Jace and Jasper struggle with their love for Sarah, AND their attraction to each other. While these three are trying to sort out their personal relationship, the town is caught in the throes of the aftermath of a terrible murder, one that became public when ranch hands on the Hawkins Ranch found a local woman nailed to a tree in a Christ-like pose. This is a story within a story and its tension is real and very emotional. The core of the story is the journey of discovery that Jace, Sarah, and Jasper must travel, but it is also a compelling murder mystery and just a really terrific read.

Well my first completed book of 2011.

I have really mixed reviews about this one. The plot was strong and the sex sizzled. I just couldn't get past Jasper's poor grammar. "ain't" just really got under my skin and would take me out of the story. I don't think it was necessary.

The who done it was strong and I really didn't know who it was until the end.

I'm just not big on murder suspense. If you like hot menage, m/m or murder suspense then this may be the book for you.

This is my favorite book of the new year. The romance was so sweet. I love watching this trio let down walls to let the others in. It had a very nice pace and kept me wanting more. The only complaint I have is that it ended to soon.

I have been tripping down memory lane and visiting old friends. Cameron Dane is an author who I do enjoy even though their characters can be overly into the drama one minute and then just accept some real boundary-pushing behaviors the next. (Translation for my musings - The character's behaviors and reactions are not always believable).
This series is entertaining as it mixes m/f, m/m, and m/f/m books while mixing contemporary with fantasy in the same setting and making it work. If I could buy all the way in on the characters, this would be a 5/5 but it is what it is.
This was a favorite in the series for me as the story's MCs are three very different people who become a unit.

In this book, we find Sarah Tennison living with her roommate and protector Jace Maxwell while her brother is overseas in Afghanistan. She's having a love affair with Jasper Simmons, a cowboy from a nearby ranch. Jace is a sheriff's deputy, and Sarah works at the sheriff's office, so when the body of a local woman is found, they are both caught up in the mystery, as is Jasper, who actually is present when the body is found.

This book is filled with hot sex of the m/f, m/m, and m/m/f varieties as these three begin to work out their suppressed mutual attraction in the midst of a murder investigation. Jace has secrets, among them previous menage relationships. Jasper is shy and self-conscious about his upbringing, constantly (and irritatingly after awhile) self-correcting his grammar. Sarah is attracted to both men, but has thought Jace isn't interested. Upon finding out that he is, she is determined to make a threesome relationship work.

Quinten, Montana is a very accepting place, and no one seems surprised or outraged at this menage relationship; in fact, Jace and Jasper are the only ones who aren't sure whether this is the right thing to do, and they get over that pretty quickly when the clothes come off. So the main complications in the plot involve the murder investigation.

As a suspense novel, this book rocks. There were lots of red herrings and I was as clueless as the characters for most of the book. It was all quite cleverly done.

On the other hand, as an erotic romance, I thought it was a little rocky. Explicitly hot sex scenes make up for a lot, but I didn't quite feel like the threesome rang true. Sarah and Jasper have been dating for four years, and say they are in love. The migration of Jace from troubled alcoholic guardian to sober lover in the relationship just seemed a little too slick, a little too easy, a little too much of a plot device to me. Still, the ending pulls it all together.

In the sixth book of the Hawkins Brothers series, Jasper and Sarah are in a committed relationship and recently had sex for the first time. Sarah is attracted to and has had fantasies about a three-way with Jace (Sarah's roommate and designated stand-in for her older brother). Jasper loves Sarah but admits that he has been attracted to a man in his past. When Jace discovers that Jasper and Sarah have started a sexual relationship, he is jealous of their intimacy. Jace is attracted to and wants Sarah but also longs for a menage relationship for Jasper as well. In the heat of an argument, Jace kisses Sarah ... and then Jasper. Blah, blah, blah ... throuple HEA.

The best thing about this book was the mystery. It was fairly entertaining and kept me guessing. The culprit and the culprit's motivation were surprising and twisted. I liked that.

Regarding the throuple. The sex was hot (but then again, it's Cameron Dane so of course it's hot) but I didn't buy the longevity of their situation. Jasper, Jace, and Sarah seemed more a flash in the pan; I didn't see them surviving long-term. Also, I didn't buy

Bottom line: a wonderful series but this one just was not my cuppa.

Camerone Dane is one of my favorite authors and very much a guilty pleasure. With the exception of only one or two other authors I can name rights absolutely the most outrageous and hottest sex scenes. This is the first menage of hers that I've read. It very much follows the "Hawkins Ranch" formula, for example, characters are macho but sensitive cowboys or law enforcement officers. Regardless, I know every time what I'm going to get with Camerone Dane and she's an auto-buy for me.

Quick disclaimer. I read a lot of books, I mean A LOT. I'm much too busy to write a review or rate those that I don't believe are a 5. Unfortunately, the vast majority of books I read fall in this category but I do want to share those I particularly liked so like minded readers can enjoy them too.

It's gonna be very short. I loved jasper and Jace's chemistry together but felt it was being overlooked for Sarah's benefit. As much as I hate it when it happens in books about menages, the girl takes a huge part of the story and the two guys are left behind. The only way this book could have had five stars is if Sarah hadn't been in it. I didn't like her personality, she got on my nerves and she always drew attention back to her. Jasper's and jace would have been a better fit or if Sarah hadn't been such an important focus, developing the attraction between the two guys....

“Jasper was in town getting supplies with Ren and came in to say hi. He kissed my cheek and whispered I should give one to you from him if I got a private moment with you. His cheeks burned as he said it, and he was about as cute as I've ever seen him. Consider yourself kissed”

This book had all the feels!! It was captivating, sweet and utterly ridiculous at times but I loved it.

There are a lot of storylines woven through here and the writing isn't the best, but the main story is worth a couple hours read. Unlike most ménage books, this isn't a toxic relationship, no one "dominates" or rules the others, and the sex scenes aren't debasing to anyone.

Deputy Jace Maxwell has been in love with his best friend’s sister for years. Though he can’t lie to himself about his feelings for Sarah Tennison, Jace knows he can’t live without fulfilling his attraction to both women and men. So Jace is determined to watch over Sarah, protecting her from everyone, himself included. Imagine Jace’s surprise when shy cowboy Jasper Simmons slips past Jace’s radar and into Sarah’s bed. It tears Jace apart that another man has what Jace wants, but there’s something about this slightly awkward cowboy that draws Jace to him as well. And when a murder investigation throws Jasper even more fully into Jace’s path, Jace knows it’s only a matter of time before he breaks and gives into both his desire for Sarah and for her lover. Still, Jace has to decide if joining Sarah and Jasper in their bed is worth the inevitable heartbreak he’ll suffer when the two decide they want a more “conventional” relationship that doesn’t include a third person.

What Jace doesn’t know is that he’s seriously underestimating Jasper and Sarah. The pair may be more innocent than Jace in some respects, but they both recognize that when it comes to love, sometimes the best, most enduring answer is becoming three.

If someone asked me why I can’t get enough of Cameron Dane’s work, I’d tell them they need look no further than Becoming Three. Cameron Dane’s stories are always filled with memorable characters, passion, sensuality, and a wealth of emotion seething just beneath the surface, to create gripping romances that are truly unforgettable. Becoming Three has all of these and more, with three protagonists who work hard to overcome the obstacles in their path for an everlasting love that’s worth every ounce of sweat (good and bad) that goes into it.

Jace is the dark, dominant, and brooding sort – a man whose past has burned him more than once and has made him undervalue himself when it comes to relationships. Jasper, in turn, is the quieter, less experienced one. I loved that he was somewhat awkward, but would step forward and defend those he loves in a heartbeat. Sarah, the third member of the threesome, is the one who makes it all work. She’s confident in her love both for Jace and Jasper, and she deals with each man’s uncertainties in her own gentle but firm way. She’s also incredibly likeable and a bright spirit through and through. A small part of me envied her these two delicious heroes, but I adored her so much that the larger part of me was cheering for her to get her happily ever after.

Action and intrigue that come from the hunt for a serial killer add an element of danger to Becoming Three, and that aspect of the story was every bit as fascinating as the romance. Many of the other characters from the Hawkins Ranch series play major supporting roles in Becoming Three. Readers new to the series need not fear they’ll be lost, however. As Becoming Three is the first book in the Hawkins Ranch series I’ve read, I can safely say it does stand on its own. Still, I fell in love with Sarah, Jace, and Jasper’s friends and family and have already started buying up the previous five books in the series (Demon Moon, Falling, ReneCade, Ride, and Knowing Caleb) and am on edge for more.

I have said it before, and I’ll happily say it again: Cameron Dane is an amazing author. I loved Becoming Three and can’t wait to read it again and again and again.

Another solid 4 star read by Cameron Dane. This time a menage between Sarah Tennison, Jace Maxwell and Jasper Simmons. This book had a slightly more gritty feel, which I really did appreciate.

Sarah works at the Sheriffs office as the receptionist and office all rounder really. She's known Jasper since they were both 20, but now they're 24 they are an item finally becoming intimate. Sarah is sweet, caring, loyal and, while a happy person, she worries about her brother's overseas deployment and misses her mother, who died when she was 16.

Jace Maxwell has known Sarah since she was younger and lives with her while her brother Hunter, Jace's best friend, is on a tour of Afghanistan and Iraq. Hunter has assigned Jace as Sarah's guardian as she has no other family. Jace has secretly been attracted to Sarah for a while but is loathe to act on his desires. One night after Jasper and Sarah become inimate for the first time he gets pissed, toey and things start to heat up. He likes the idea of knowing Sarah and Jasper but behaves rudely to cover his jealousies and insecurities. Jace has been involved in menage relationships before and likes the sexual feeling they give him. Jace is a deputy and as a person he tends towards the responsible/intense type. He has a problem controlling his drinking - not an alcoholic but can't stop at one, using it to numb stresses.

Jasper Simmons is a quiet cowboy working on the Hawkins brothers ranch. He became known to readers of the series after being busted smoking cigarettes, being fired for that, then slashing Connor's tyres when laid off. Jasper has come a long way in 4 years and has developed into a trustworthy, hard working, well liked person within the community. Jasper was raised by his deeply religious grandmother, who made sex and sexual feelings out to be depraved.

There is much going on in Quentin with dead bodies, a serial killer, Samuel Simmons menancing his brother, an out of town businessman trying to buy real estate plus an appearance of Sarah's brother, Hunter. Things heat up when Sarah realises and talks to Jasper about the fact that he might just enjoy being with men as well. She likes the concept of a menage that could include Jace, if he sees her more than her brother's young sister. Sarah is definitely a lusty wench, she encourages and gets fully into the menage and taking on two young, virile guys. The sex is good, but for once I felt it got in the way of the plot here. I liked the serial killer apsect of the book and the mystery was a good one, there were a few people that could have been the killer and it wasn't made clear as to who it was until necessary, good writing on that front. I would have liked more on the serial killer and then his interations with Jace.

There is still a solid connection to previous books with Duke, Cade and Ren being involved. Once again another strong read in this erotic series which never disappoints. On to 'Quick to the Hunt'. I live in hope that more come out in this series.

So the book that I want to talk to you about today comes from a series that has a bit of EVERYTHING. And by everything I mean it runs the gambit from paranormal M/F to paranormal M/M, to contemporary-western M/M and M/F back to paranormal M/M and then just for shits and giggles lets throw in some murder-suspense M/M/F. LOL The series I speak of is The Hawkins Ranch series by Cameron Dane and man can that lady write a smokin' hot love scene. The book I am going to share with you today is the most recent release in the series and it is called Becoming Three.

Sarah Tennison is living with her brothers best friend while he is away in Afghanistan with the military. Sarah has had a crush and Jace for as long as she can remember. But for Jace, Sarah is completely off limits due to her age and the fact that her brother asked him to keep her safe. Being around Jace every day not only at home, but at her job in the sheriffs office could make a sexually frustrated girl crazy. Giving up on Jace, Sarah starts dating and falls in love with Jasper Simmons a cowboy from the Hawkins ranch.

When Jasper finds a dead body on the ranch and Jace is called in to investigate, it stirs up feelings that both men have a hard time dealing with.

For me this is the best book in the series. While Jasper's broken grammar is kind of annoying to read it was such a part of his character I could overlook it. Everything doesn't fall right into place for this threesome, they have some problems to work through, jealousy, and denial are the two biggest. But when the three do come together it is some of the hottest sex scenes that I have read. I loved the fact that Sarah didn't shy away from her sexuality at all and asked for what she wanted in bed. The murder mystery part of the story really helped carry the story line and left me guessing right until the end. A lot of the characters from past books show up in this story so you get glimpses into their lives which is always a plus for me. I am looking forward to the next installment in this series, Quick to the Hunt, coming from Loose Id in July of this year. I give Becoming Three 5 chocolate dipped strawberries and the whole Hawkins Ranch series 5 chocolate dipped strawberries just for it's genre jumping.

Surprisingly quite good. Mystery? Not bad; I didn't figure it out until the characters did. There could have been a bit more intrigue, but that's a minor quibble. I liked the characters, although I agree with a lot of the reviewers that Jasper and Sarah seemed younger than they were. It was never explicitly stated that Jace was a recovering alcoholic, and so it came across more like the author was coming down on his drinking from a moral standpoint (I can't imagine that's actually the case, but if it were, I would laugh really really hard).
Jace was the least fleshed-out of the characters, but this is clearly part of a series, so I don't know if maybe he played a large part in some of the other books.
One thing that really bugs me is when characters from a previous book in the series show up and for no particular reason are super best friends to a new main character. They have uncharacteristically witty lines and want to solve everyone's problems are always nauseatingly happy with how everything turned out after their book ended... It's like a big "wink wink" to the audience, and it never ever comes across as genuine. This book had almost none of that. The previously-used characters really fit into the story, and it did feel genuine for them to show up in the ways they did. Then again, maybe that's just because I haven't read any of the other books?

Not bad, but not fantastic either.
Some elements in the plot felt overseen: the gay cowboys, the bad brother threatening the girlfriend, the cop hero, the guy feeling responsible of his best friend's little sister... However I have to admit that the characters were more personalized than in many erotica and managed to resemble real persons. Problem is I did not care so much about some of their problem. Jace's struggle with alcoholism left me cold and by the way I never managed to be convinced he would not go back down there. Jasper and Sarah were both very nice, cute and naive, but I never bought their age, 20 in the prologue and 24 in the story. In my opinion, they behave and think as if they were 15-16 in the prologue and barely 20 in the story - very green, inexperienced and not fully mature yet.
The murder investigation was however interesting. I liked how the author brought in several potential suspects, some of them innocent of the murder but having some other secrets to hide. It seemed more developed and believable than in many other eroticas and the villain seemed awfully bad and twisted.
The hot scenes were rather hot, though not as emotional as others.

I avoid menages like the plague. I usually like to focus on just two characters and learn them, enjoy their growth. This is the first book where I can really say that the menage did not take away from the story for me. It seemed genuine. I enjoyed all three characters. Of course, I had a special place in my heart for Jace and the challenge that he was facing. I have not read many books where the monster within was one that is commonly experienced. It was debilitating but not unconquerable, a true heroic flaw. I loved Jasper in his sweetness who was still very strong. Sarah with her heat was definitely nice as well. They flowed well together and aided the story in its depth.

The villain in this book so creeped me out, I hope not to have nightmares about him/her. How could someone be so ...ick? Not a better word for me. Just ick. I thought about taking a shower after facing this one.

Good job, Dane. Another excellent read. Keep 'em coming!

Ok at first I admit i didn't care about the Sarah part. I just thought it'd be best if she wasn't there at all, but towards the end of the book I felt like each person represented something that one of them needed and they really fit well together.

Another thing I liked was all the twist and turns in the investigation. I hate a mystery where you can pretty much guess who did it while napping. This one gave so many believable suspects that I couldn't figure it out until they did! Yea!

The only problem I had with this book and actually all the books in this series is the characters names. I can not tell you how many times I had to stop reading and remember who exactly Cade, Conner, Cassie, Cain, and Caleb were. Not to mention Jake, Jas, and Jace. And then you have other names that rhyme such as Luke and Duke. Dane must have picked a letter out of a scrabble game and tried to make as many names as she could that sound the same

What the hell Cameron Dane? Just how is it possible for you to write two menage stories in different series and make them so perfect yet so distinct? If I find a menage book that I like by a certain author, even if its not a perfect 5 star rating, I will usually see if that author has written any other menage stories. Unfortunately the pattern that the author uses in their stories becomes abrasively clear within the first few chapters and I become disappointed and bored.

Cameron Dane has successfully written two menage stories that the only similarities I see are the depth of emotional connection between the three characters and hot Hot HOT sex scenes. I have yet to read a menage by another author that makes me want to BE in a menage.

The characters in this particular book are engaging, their struggles true to life and the villain is shiver inducing. Well done, Dane. Well done. I may just have to read one of your books that are not menage...

Note: I read this book over a year ago and enjoyed it. Today, I got the urge to read it again. This short review & star rating is based on my re-read.

I find I didn't enjoy it as much this time 'round. I must have overlooked quite a bit last time, because there were a few things that niggled at me that I don't remember being bothered by last time. Namely, the disparity between Sarah and Jasper's stated ages and how old they actually seemed to me, and the awkward, sometimes anatomically confusing sex scenes. I think I found the story quite steamy with my last read. This time? Not so much.

This is a typical menage read with all the typical things you'd expect from a menage read. Meh. Your expectations will be met, but it falls short of greatness.

Even the MCs... Meh. Developed nicely, but felt superficial off and on. Less meh for even the secondary characters, they kinda stole the show IMO.

Figured out the murderer early on... and I'm not the biggest mystery reader.

Dane is a decent writer though. IDK, I'd read again.

This wasn't my favorite book in the series. I didn't really feel an emotional connection with the characters as I did with the others, but it was certainly a fun read. The sex was fun and inventive, and I fouind Jace to be an interesting character. A longer book definitely would have drawn him out more, especially his relationship with Hunter.

Overall it was a good romance story and the mystery was also good the only thing is i felt the story was too long; not that it is a bad thing to have a long story but with long story needs a very connected plot to keeps the reader interested... I don't feel this story had a very connected plot and some parts where so long they started to bore
