Carol C. Harter was an American academic administrator and the longest-serving president of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (1995–2006). A Binghamton University graduate, she previously led SUNY Geneseo and held leadership roles at Ohio University. She later founded and directed UNLV’s Black Mountain Institute. Harter was also an author, board member, and influential voice in higher education and public policy.
