Meet Palmer. Charlie Palmer. Awesome spy and fluffy llama. Her top-secret mission? To save the world and rescue a pair of . . . UNDERPANTS! A hilarious and super stylish adventure - James Bond for little ones!
Llama Charlie Palmer is a secret agent, a spy. She is used to being sneaky, combat, and travelling the world. Her new mission is in from HQ, they need her to find out who has stolen the Prime Minister’s underpants and return them to him.
Agent Llama is a fun, exciting, adventurous picture book that I can see children adoring and having a good giggle at what Charlie Palmer the Llama gets up to on her missions, plus having to locate some banana-covered underpants.
The text throughout rhymes and the illustrations are comic book style with their moody colours. The images tell the story perfectly and the expressions of the characters emphasise how they are feeling. They are full-page too, with the writing either between or within them.
For children who crave excitement, this book is perfect. Any book that will have children laughing and enjoying themselves is a winner in my eyes
Charlie is a fabulous spy. She is hot on the trail of a stolen pair of underwear, fighting off evil goons and saving the world from the dastardly duo, Bogdon Boom and Greta Grimm. She parachutes from a crashing plane. She skis down a mountain at high speed. She outwits the bad guys, and does it all with style.
This book is so hilarious! I loved the funny plot and the exciting adventures. The rhyming text is so much fun to read out loud. I am very picky about rhyming text in picture books, but I was so happy with the rhythm and rhymes in this story. It really is delightful to read!
Charlie is suave and cool. She has all the latest spy gadgets, and she has all the spy skills needed to save the world. I just loved her character!
The illustrations are wonderful! I love the bright colors and angular style. There is a real energy on each page that sets the mood for each scene. It makes the story exciting! The art work brings the action to life.
This is such a special book! I can't wait to read this with my little nieces.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a free and honest review. All the opinions stated here are my own true thoughts, and are not influenced by anyone.
Relying on rhyming text and vividly-colored cartoon panels, this picture book introduces young readers to a skilled spy named Charlie Palmer. Because Charlie is a llama, the images often contain droll facial expressions and humorous asides about her abilities; for instance, she is skilled at "hoof-to-hoof combat" (unpaged). When the Prime Minister's underwear is stolen, Charlie is on the case and ready to use all her resources to find those undies. While the whereabouts of underwear is arguably not that important, some youngsters will be entertained by the plot and Charlie's daring-do. I suspect that this is the start of a picture book series in which she deals with other crimes and misdemeanors or even something more important. While it's not my cup of tea due to the busy quality of the pages, it will appeal to its intended audience, who might want to come up with their own adventures for this llama.
I didn't write a review yesterday, because the other reviews here covered it very well.
But we've had to return to the library to take this one out for a reread. And that's the first time it's ever happened, so I figure it was worth mentioning. Made quite the impression.
What a brilliant book! Parents will love it as much as kids with all the James Bond parallels, and the rhyme scheme/rhythm is fantastic, making it great fun to read aloud. Looking forward to reading the other Agent Llama books!
Charlie Palmer is the heroine llama spy in this rhyming rollicking picture book. Missing underwear, crashing planes, one excitement after another. One action packed read aloud.
This is silly. I could see an older elementary student really enjoying this, especially because of all the action/thriller tropes in it. The rhymes are well done and full of great vocabulary.
AGENT LLAMA is an action-packed picture book that takes the reader on a spy-journey with Agent Llama, who needs to figure out who stole the Prime Minister's underwear. Equipped with some cool spy gear, Llama heads out to find the villain - only to have to fight henchmen and eventually get captured. Can Agent Llama get the underwear and save the day?
What I loved: This is an action-packed picture book that will work well for spy thriller fans. The writing is clever with plenty of rhymes and quick turn of events, keeping readers hooked and on their toes. The crime may seem silly, but Agent Llama is on the case! There is a lot to giggle about in this comical story, and the plot definitely feels movie-quality. There is danger, intrigue, and trickery as Agent Llama recovers the Prime Minister's undies.
The illustrations are really fantastic, very high quality with expressive animals, bright colors, and plenty of detail. They capture the story really well, and with the accompanying text art, it's quite the adventure. I could definitely see this becoming televised as it has all the fun qualities.
What left me wanting more: I find it challenging when children's media uses violence, here "kung fu kicks" and electrocution from a trick handshake. It certainly would not bother some parents/readers, but this may work better for older readers who can understand that we shouldn't fight or hurt others. As such, I'd put this in more of the 6+ age range vs the current toddler/preschooler label.
Final verdict: With great illustrations and delightfully rhyming text, AGENT LLAMA is a silly spy thriller for children to enjoy. Recommend for slightly older picture book readers.
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.
Charlie Palmer is a llama and a secret agent. One day she is sent on a mission to retrieve the Prime Minister's stolen underwear. This is pretty cute. I found some of the rhyming a bit awkward but the story is fun and the illustrations are great.
