Hooooo.

What to think about this one?

It's almost 2 different books; the tone sharply shifts in this one. There's the first half, and then there's the second half.

The first half feels like it belongs in the scythkin universe—and certain alien species seem to confirm this—and is pretty light, though not as big on making poignant observations about humanity. Konan, the king, is definitely an OTT type, but the domination and punishment elements are definitely more funishment and fairly tame as books in this genre can go.

But then.

There's a tonal shift—before a big event that really shifts the mood—and things go a lot harsher, to the point that the reading and punishment was less titillating and more wince-inducing. And a rather surprising amount of emotional hurt went along with it.

So.

I liked this book, largely because LR stayed away from her more misogynist No Two Women Can Ever Be Friends™ nonsense—can't have women fighting if only one is ever in the book....

But I also genuinely liked Elizabeth, our heroine.

Loki seems to be branching out and trying different heroines than her usual type these days, and I'm really here for it. There's only so many times you can write a bratty 18-21 year old whose only personality trait is an acting, live stand in for spanking. Most LR heroines could be replaced with sexy lamps that play pre-recorded quips and there would be no loss.

I get it. It's erotica, but it's nice to have a little personality in these stories, okay? I dream big.

Elizabeth is cagey about her age, so I'm going to assume the upper-end of how old she's mused she could be: we'll call her a mid-30 something. But she's also a likable weirdo who constantly mutters to herself, obsessively writes down events to document them, and is largely caught up in her own head, because she claims to be a narrator, which is her description of a journalist. Not like any journos I know, but okay, we'll go with it. I more suspect Elizabeth is another Millennial victim of the gig economy and probably freelances from a dark, dingy apartment and occasionally lucks out getting a piece picked up for like $50, but this thought makes me like her more, and it makes her later explanation of how she ends up in space make a lot more sense than a properly employed journalist. Again, it's erotica; nothing really has to make sense here, as vexing as that can be. She wears thick black glasses, has impulse-control issues with touching things, and she was kidnapped by mistake and no one even noticed they had taken her. (Apparently in the second book in this series, which I'm not terribly inclined to go read.)

And unlike LR's usual heroines, Elizabeth is observant and actually pretty smart.

I'm still not sure what to think of Konan. Unlike many books in these genres that like to overuse words like "beast" or "demon" to the point that they have no meaning, Konan actually is beastly, both in appearance and his personality and actions. I found him pretty endearing in the first half of the story and the last portion where things resolve, but I found him a bit too syrupy in the bonus content provided in the link at the end of the ebook, and that second half, yeah, full-on Beast Mode. He's a horror show without a conscience.

Okay, that's a lie. I actually did pretty much do know what to think of him. I'm more conflicted about the writing choices here.

And the ship? Total MVP of this story. I would have loved to hear more about it. Very cool idea.

So.

I think I gotta call this one a good to very good read, as long as you're not expecting a scythkin level read. This isn't quite like her other main writing mode either. It's sort of a meld of the two. So maybe it isn't just her heroines that are evolving.

This book is surprisingly funny.

They meet when she is caught looking at the outside of his spaceship and sneaks closer to touch it. (His spaceship is a living thing/plant).

So he takes her prisoner. He is angry the king of the planet he was visiting forgot his visit and left him waiting at the spacedock for hours.

Her thoughts upon meeting him, "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a man who meets a woman will look at all of her orifices and imagine himself inside them."

And his things he says are also very funny. Like the first time he apologizes. He does much better the second time around.

He basically takes her prisoner and they both fall in love with each other against their will.

The Beast King is the 3rd story in the Royal Aliens series. King Konan is a hard alien to like at the beginning. He doesn't trust anyone so when he catches Elizabeth on his ship without authorization all hell breaks loose between the two. Although there is some major chemistry between these two, they will have to get through a lot of misunderstandings before they can fall in love.

I think this one is my favorite. Loki has brought such a wonderful world to life in The Beast King that I totally fell in love with. The ship is a living being, Konan's homeland is a total mess and there are misunderstandings with how it needs to be ruled so Elizabeth will be a help and sometimes a hinder there also. But together they will figure it out.

Great story!

Poor Elizabeth, she gets abducted by mistake, is used by an Alien King as a toy to satisfy himself and she kinda hates him but then again, her attitude and wit keep her steady throughout. King Konan is not nice, he's mean and selfish but his human has something he wants and nothing will stop him from getting it. I enjoyed Elizabeth's humor, her attitude and strong will. Konan didn't understand the little human, but he wanted her right by his side. The living ship was amazing, it really had a lot of control over things in it's confines. Although King Konan was unlikeable for the most part, he does get to redeem himself once you learn why he is the way he is. Elizabeth gives almost as good as she gets and understands Konan more than most. It was great to see the kings, Konan, Archon and Dominax get together and compare notes at the end and to get a nice epilogue too! The Royal Aliens were three sexy, exciting adventures. I'd like to see their lives one day in the future.

It was hard to get into the story for a few chapters but once it took off I could not put it down (I read over 2/3 in one sitting). Loki Renard is onto something with these intricate stories featuring fierce brutal alien kings and the redeeming quality they seem to possess once their human mates make an appearance in their lives. Konan is the featured alien king in this book and Elizabeth is his fated human mate. Their story is starkly different from the others and mainly because much is told from Elizabeth's very unique point of view. I enjoyed her narrator's/storyteller's persona and it gave certain parts of the book an added dramatic flare which was amazing. I recommend this book if you enjoy alien kings who need as much redemption as their human bratty mates need some time over their laps. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my honest review.

I went into this one banking on it being a stand alone because I haven't read the first two books before it. The first one I might some day. The second, probably not because I am not into the whole pet thing. But as for this one, I have to say I mostly enjoyed it. It's definitely the best I've read from this author so far.

If I had one complaint about this book it was pacing. No joke, within the span of 24 hours, Elizabeth finds herself nearly choked to death, punished, and raped by Konan but yet finds herself falling in love with him. WHAT!? Seriously, what?? What the hell did I miss? Then within a week or so, Konan is desiring to claim her as his mate and keep her by his side forever. It's the sex. It has to be. This wouldn't be the first book I've read where the characters find themselves obsessively in love with the other after numerous bouts of punishing and hot sex with almost zero character development.

Elizabeth was accidentally abducted in the last book and has been doing her best to not attract unwanted attention on the lava planet she has found herself on. When she sees a spaceship unlike any she has yet seen, she can't help but want to get a closer look. Too bad when she does, she gets captured and is declared a spy.

Konan is the rightful king of his people, but his brother has stolen his throne. Instead of killing him to get it back, Konan has decided to go into exile. He's an angry brute with a short temper and a thirst for violence. When he first sees Elizabeth, he knows she's no spy, but he delights in his control over her. So he'll treat her as a spy, keep her as his prisoner, and indulge in her body any time and way he desires.

I did enjoy these two as a couple. Elizabeth didn't put up pointless fights but she wouldn't allow Konan to walk all over her either. She also has a simple way of looking at the world that causes Konan's interest in her to increase. It was good to see that Konan would actually answer her questions about pretty much everything. Even when he himself didn't know why he indulged her.

When Konan's brother shows up, we learn of a sentient crown that is what marks the ruler of their people. An evil, violent sentient crown. When Elizabeth does something against Konan's wishes thinking it would make everything better, she has instead made everything worse. Way, way worse. With Konan becoming more violent and brutal. Even with her. Fortunately, the crown isn't the only sentient thing that makes one king and those others have taken a liking to Elizabeth. Allowing her to escape and forcing Konan to make a choice.

I did like the ending here. With Elizabeth as his conscience, Konan will change how he rules and make his people greater. I would be interested in getting more from this universe, and will be watching out for the first book to go on sale so I can check it out too.

This is the third in a series about Alien kings and their human mates; it is a standalone in terms of the couple. Here we get Elizabeth, a thirty-something journalist mistakenly kidnapped (twice) and now in the power of Konan, a bitter, deposed king wandering the universe and pondering how to get his country back. Despite their powerful attraction, his distrust of, well, everyone proves a major obstacle...

This was difficult to rate because while I liked the first two-thirds, I had major problems with the last third. While tonal shifts are common in Ms. Renard's books, this was one of the most abrupt volte-face's I've seen and it affected my ability to accept the MC's HEA. That said, I did like Elizabeth, who is older, wiser, and more grounded than this author's usual barely post-pubescent heroines and has a great deal of agency given her status as a prisoner/sex slave. I also appreciated the self-reflexivity (Elizabeth is a writer and calls attention to the formal and generic aspects of the story: "The soldier didn’t seem to mind explaining the situation in a convenient piece of exposition"). And there are allusions to other texts and authors, including The Lord of the Rings, Pride and Prejudice, The Winter's Tale, The Sword in the Stone, Oscar Wilde, and the author's own.

Ms. Renard has a lot to say about how absolute power corrupts absolutely -- and I'm here for that -- but Konan was ultimately too OTT for me (usually it's the author's h's who go off the deep end, here it's the H). I didn't read the bonus content, which might have changed my mind by him.

3 1/2 stars which I'm raising to 4 because of Elizabeth. I do warn potential readers that Konan's violence against Elizabeth is hard to take at times, though he never actually harms her.

I enjoyed the book, to an extent…

I enjoyed the book. To an extent. The writing was on point. There was little to no grammatical errors. But I gotta gripe…

I like D/S, spankings, alphaholes, alpha male tropes. But… I’m getting tired of the heroines getting “soaking wet” NO MATTER what the H does to them. I love pain with my pleasure but after Konan put the crown on and became genuinely messed up, crazy and evil, I don’t understand why she is still getting turned on when he beats her. He murdered someone in front of her! And ten minutes later in the room she can STILL get turned on?! There’s nothing that gets me in the mood I cold-blooded murder! If all it takes to get her wet and in the mood is a whooping with a thin tree branch or a big cane, then Konan might as well have the appearance of a 45 yr old 300 lb potbelly, bald slob. My point about that is that there are still certain parameters and circumstances that need to be in place for a person to get turned on by the actions of D/S and spankings. Nobody gets turned on regardless of the situation. I just wish writers wouldn’t make these heroines like this. Getting mindlessly soaked and in the mood no matter what the hero does to them under ANY circumstance. Women don’t work like that in real life. Getting turned on no matter the hero’s actions EVEN if the heroine is totally into d/s and spankings… I know these books are supposed to be fantasy but we read them to enjoy and to picture ourselves in these situations to fantasize that the heroine is us and it’s hard to do that when the h is made to seem like she’s a mindless tramp that drips between her legs anytime the H looks her way.

Just once I would like to read a book in which if the hero does something genuinely effed up, he could feel between her legs after a “spanking” and she would be bone dry. I’m just so over the h being wet NO MATTER WHAT!!!!

Another thing is this book pretty much took place over a 48-72 hr period and he spanked her and lashed her with a switch so many times that her rear end should literally look like minced meat. The amount of times he whipped her in a short amount of time should make it that a feather touching her rear end will cause absolute agony. I am just too annoyed at the unrealistic situations in this book.

Could her life get any worse
Elizabeth had been taken from earth by accident. She hides in the alien ship until they got to the planet with lava everywhere and then she made her escape. Weeks later she sees a ship and as she goes to take a closer look, It’s like the ship is talking to her. But before she knows what is happening she is taken by a soldier who is calling her a spy. When he takes her to the King Konan, Elizabeth is amazed at how big he is. He believes that she is a spy and he takes her to punish her until she tells him what he wants to know. King Konan it’s not in the best of moods as he was ignored by Dominax (who we met in book 1)
Can Elizabeth change the Kings mind?? And what punishments does he have in store for her??
I really enjoyed this book I found the banter between these two had me really smiling. There was a real connection between these two
The air around them just sizzled. I liked that she didn’t back down to him. I like that I was surprised by this book as well!!! about the ship and the crown it was really good I can’t wait for the next book.

True to Loki Renard's dark romance style, The Beast King (Royal Aliens #3) is a fascinating read. While you may feel her characters and story line seem to change as the story unfolds, you must remember that our insites into the characters and their interactions evolves as we learn more about the backgrounds of Elizabeth and King Konan. In reality the changes we see developing are due to outside forces which include a crown of power, a living ship, betrayal by a love family member, a perceived slight by King Dominax, and the supposed treachery by nobels of King Konan's kingdom. As the story unfolds we see the relationship between Elizabeth and King Konan change and develop into a more serious give and take relationship. Elizabeth finally feels she can begin to belong somewhere in the universe outside of Earth and King Konan sees that he can lean on her internal strength of will and empathy to help him maintain control over his actions and resist the pressures of those outside forces trying use him for dark purposes. There is no way you can predict the twists and turns as the story unfolds but what an amazing ride it is!

2.00 Stars-DNF'd at 60%. (WW/Blue Alien). Kindle Unlimited Edition e-book. This was not my cup of tea, I just couldn't square the world depicted in this book; however, it's just me because many have given this book a four star rating. I found it hard to believe that the heroine, Elizabeth, was beamed onto a space ship and the Captain couldn't see her on the landing pad because he was so inthralled with the blond girl that was the object of his desire; further, the reader is to believe that Elizabeth was able to find her way off a space ship like the Enterprise sight unseen and once off the ship Elizabeth is able to acquire food and shelter and a device that allows her to understand and be understood by the beings on this planet. Once she is captured by the hero, the angry displaced King Konan of Masih, the two spend the next 32% of the book debating if she is and if she isn't a lying spy. The biggest hurtle was that the ship is more powerful than King Konan and participates in his and Elizabeth's sexual encounters.

I just loved this story to Pieces, this is the third King to finally succumb to the delights of a small human. And while i thought the other two books in this series were great, this one.... wow honestly i didnt want to put the book down at any stage. Loki certainly has outdone herself in this story. I love that the ship is plant based so to speak and recognizes Elizabeth as the next Queen and looks after her.

Elizabeth has found herself on a strange Planet after been beamed aboard a ship unknownly with another human. Now she finds herself captive on board a ship that looks like a bucket of rust but is surrounded by Plantlife. The King calls her a spy, and she will be punished, but what will happen when that same king starts having feelings for this small human being. A king, an unwanted Crown, and Elizabeth.... good verses evil. But which one is evil???

A must read book definitely worth 5 plus stars

The third and final instalment of the Royal Aliens books has the series going out with a bang! Accidentally abducted from Earth, Elizabeth runs into King Konan - a beast in every sense of the word - who suspects she is a spy and is determined to uncover the truth by whatever means necessary.....resulting in witty banter, battle of wills and sexy domination. Elizabeth has plenty of spunk and I loved how she got under Konan’s skin, plus I enjoyed her own narration of events in her role as a story teller. The imagination of the ship is just fabulous - I was totally captivated by the imagery of that and alien world overall. The reflections that either characters have regarding Earth or the nature of humans are also highly amusing. Highly enjoyed this book and would recommend to any alien lovers or indeed to anyone who might enjoy a quirky sense of humour - you will not be disappointed.

Elizabeth was one adventurous human. She was zapped onto a ship by mistake and now is seeing the world in all its golden view. Unfortunately, she was caught on the wrong ship and now has to answer King Konan’s questions. Konan is not amused by this human. He first was disgraced by Dominax by not receiving a welcome or any sort of festivity. Now, he has a human on his ship. What to do with her?
I love Liz’s narrations. They are so funny. The fact that she gets under Konan’s scales is the really fun. Her scratching on the piece of paper she has to keep track of her adventure is what makes it fun. And boy, when you read how she describes Konan and all his “glory.” WOW! Once you get to the root of why he is so grumpy, you feel for him. But there is a twist and it gets a bit scary for Liz. Thank goodness she wasn’t about to let that consume him. ZOOM, I love it. LOL

This tale is absolutely delicious. From the very beginning we get a different perspective because the narrator is simultaneously narrating and an active participant in the story. Each alien king is unique in his own way, but Konan (and his ship) are truly in a class of their own. Determined to uncover all the secrets Elizabeth is hiding, Konan sets out to “break” her. What happens instead is something neither of them ever saw coming. In this vast, incredible universe, their worlds collide and nothing is the same thereafter. I love this series but am most fond of this story in particular. From the world building, to the equally strong male and female leads, to the growth, and the engaging storyline and excellent writing, this story checks all the boxes. Do yourself a favor and read it immediately!

I enjoyed this dark, Sci-fi, alien romance with its witty, often sarcastic humour. I liked Elizabeth’s intelligence, common sense approach and endless need for answers. King Konan was dominant, full of anger & chaos with little regard for consequences. Determined that Elizabeth was a spy, Konan set out on a brutal path to uncover the truth and in the process discovered his conscience.

I found the verbal sparring between Elizabeth and Konan very entertaining. I also enjoyed the unique and sentient nature of Konan’s spaceship along with its impact on Elizabeth in particular. This is a quick read with plenty of drama, anguish, conflict, some adventure and several explicit sexual encounters, featuring spanking, and caning as punishment.

The story has good points

This book has good points and the characters were entertaining. There is a King who was tricked by his younger brother and he is trying to get his throne back. There is a female named Elizabeth. She was looking at the King’s ship and was taken to the King as a thief. Their journey begins there. The issue for me is that I didn’t enjoy the lead characters joining. At first it was entertaining because the King had discovered that Elizabeth liked some pain with her pleasure. This surprised Elizabeth, but she owned the pain and pleasure. It was beautiful how the ship was involved. However after that I grew weary of how the King treated Elizabeth in general, in such a degrading manner. At the end, the King was better and the reader get the happy ending.

Elizabeth is on an alien planet, having been abducted accidentally from earth. As she is exploring the unique planet, she comes across a particularly beautiful ship. It is captained by Konan, who was once king of Masih, until he was dethroned by his own younger brother. When Elizabeth tries to touch the ship, she is again abducted by a guard and called a spy. The king has her placed into a tiny cage, where she tries to record her adventure, since she is a professional storyteller. The king, Konan, has no concept of human beings and their wants and desires. But he definitely wants to find out more.

This story is a wild ride through curiosity, fear, excitement, pleasure, punishment, erotic encounters, family discord and love.

Elizabeth has been captured by Konan and he decides he wants to keep and train her to please him. All Elizabeth wants to do is escape and return to Earth, but she fails. Things change and they grow closer but there are others involved in their lives who cause a few issues. There is a happy ending for them but things get bad before this happens. I enjoyed the story, especially Elizabeth’s ability to endure all of the chaos that has been forced on her. This is a well written and entertaining story that is worth reading.

He was mean and evil

I loved this book. It was not the usual alien/human rough romance. Loki has built a world where everything seems to be alive. The characters Elizabeth and Konan are really an unlikely pair. She is a stranded pick pocket and he a cruel and evil King, in exile. Neither one of them are straight forward which makes the book all that more enjoyable. There is hot rough sex and a lot of spanking. For those that have triggers with discipline spanking and rough sex this is not the book for you. For those others who like this type of books hurry up and read the book, you’re going to love it.

Elizabeth finds her self as a stowaway on an alien ship owned by the exiled alien king Konan. When Elizabeth gets caught by Konan he sees her as a spy and theres only one way to deal with those especially when they are in the form of an intriguing human. Konans dominate nature demands her submissions but Elizabeth not going to give it so easily. this is a well written alien sci-fi romance set in the incredible universe created by Loki! the story draws you in and the characters hold your attention and desires till the end!

Loki Renard writes brutal, alpha aliens with tongue in cheek humor that will have you laughing out loud. And, the human female is the narrator and that is her job, she's a narrator! I loved this book King Konan and Elizabeth are well developed, intriguing characters. He distrusts everyone because he was deeply betrayed, so to compensate, everyone is a spy and is kept at arms-length. She was just minding her own bustiness on Earth, well maybe she was pick pocketing someone and got swept up to another planet. The story has some twists, great humor, crazy chemistry, and some steamy good fun. Well done Loki, well done!

Fantastic story!

I loved this story. With a domineering, fierce and very sexy alien king and a meek little storyteller whose been captured by the king as a spy, we are once again taken on a sexy adventure filled with many delicious moments and little twists and turns throughout.

Konan the Beast King loves to dish out punishment and he finds unique and creative ways to punish poor Elizabeth. They have a great connection that kept me laughing at their crazy banter.

With fantastic writing, amazing characters and a storyline that keeps us captivated and squirming in our seats, this is another really great and very entertaining story from this amazing author.

He's blue!

Elizabeth is abducted again (granted the first time was accidental). She narrates everything in life and I found myself in love with her inner narrating. Now she's found herself at the mercy of an angry King and it doesn't look like its going to go well.

King Konan is a nasty grump but a hot grump. I mean the dude is blue and a thick beard, hubba hubba! I didn't like him till the end (which totally explains everything).

These two did not like each other for a good long while. There is obviously some seriously hot scenes and steamy spankings! There is also a really cool thing with the ship, I wasn't expecting that. Another unique read by Loki Renard.

Elizabeth is a human who is caught up with an alien king. Konan is violent and cruel towards Elizabeth. But, she still comes to care for him. The subtle humor in this story is fun. There are a lot of spankings and dominating sex in this book. I enjoyed reading those scenes. I didn't like Konan very much until we get to the end of the story. That's when we are told why he is so angry and aggressive. After that, I could tolerate him. Elizabeth is the best character in this story. She narrates as she moves through life. It is interesting to read her inner thoughts. I do recommend this book.

I absolutely loved this one! It was original and fun and I loved the characters. I also love the steamy scenes and their high heat level. I love the side characters, the ship, the surprises, and the tender moments. However, my favorite part was Elizabeth. She was such a unique character and her sassy, daring, don't-stress-the-small-stuff personality made me fall in love with her from the beginning.

This is a fun series that throws surprises at you with every book. Each story can be read as a stand alone, but there is a backstory that ties them all together so I recommend reading them in order.

More S&M than Alpha romance

Although this was a good book to read, I feel the author missed their mark. There was a lot of spanking (which isnt a bad thing) but the writing focused on the action and not the feelings of arousal during these actions. The female was often in a pained mindframe but would be more than ready to go when the action shifted.

Spoiler: The one issue I had was that she admitted she needed pain to enjoy sex as a punishment, but that issue was never brought back up and no closure was provided. It was all rough interactions until the very end where a soft interaction occured only after the males growth.
