hmmmmmmm … what to say, what to say …
When a story doesn’t feel right to me, it gives me all kinds of nervous tension. There is a lot about this story that just did not sit well with me. The major plot point / eye-twitch is the past between Ben and Murphy. Without giving away details, back in high school, these two had a friendship behind closed doors because one was rich and the other was not. Nothing surprising there. Happens all the time. I’m not saying it’s right, just that it’s realistic. Their falling out, also plausible. However, that was then, and this is now. We’re quite a bit older now. Not only should we know better, but we’ve also matured to the level that we should probably let the past be the past and move forward. I mean this is a second chance romance, amirite?
#RealTalk: These two brought up their past mistakes waaaaaaaay too much and way too far into the storyline for it to be pleasing, in my opinion. AND there really isn’t a very clear picture painted to the reader on what exactly happened back in the day to justify constantly bringing up the past. Honestly, a good prologue could have solved about 50% or more of the problematic areas I found in this story. But we didn’t get that, instead we got 14-year-old drama as part of the conversation in the present soooooo much that I never felt their connection of today. I was told a lot of things, I believed very little of it.
I’ve always said that how a story makes the reader feel is just as important as the story itself and unfortunately, the story was twitchy, and I felt twitchy and those are two negatives that do not make a positive. What is a positive thing is that the bones of this story are good. I get what the author was trying to accomplish, it just didn’t hit the mark. Not every story is for everyone, some of you may read this review and be all whaaaaaaaaaaaat is she talking about? lol that’s cool. You know why? Because no two people ever read the same book :) This is my experience, do with that information what you will.

I am trying to like this book more than 2 stars, but I really give up trying. Since I am listening to the audiobook, it is not clear whatever Miss Blaufeld using past and present time frame. Everything confusing for me. I feel the plot is jumble around.
The length of the book is also too long. Way too long. And again, I lost track on the time frame.

We're back in Vermont!
We all remember the Busy Bean Coffee Shop/Bakery from Sarina's True North series. Audrey and Zara are the boss ladies.
This is Murphy and Ben's story.
They used to know each other in highschool. Or rather - at their very posh prep school. But they haven't seen each other in 14 years.
He was the poor scholarship kid and she was the waspy rich girl.
Now Ben is a surgeon in Vermont and Murphy is working at a coffee shop in town.
She had to leave her cushy NYC socialite life after things happened - we don't yet know what exactly.
Can those two start again where they left each other on not the best of terms after prom?

Well.
It was okay. I think I just had an off day for reading this. I didn't really get into it. It felt like I was reading a book where I missed a prologue novella. No idea why, but it just felt that way.
(The way she says - twice - in the first pages, that she just recently found out that Ben had had a crush on her too back then!? She said that like we were supposed to know exactly when and why she recently learned about his crush. So weird!)
But anyway. It wasn't bad. It was a cute romance. There's still a lot of attraction and sparks. It was adorable to watch them really fight for that happy end this time.
I just didn't love it. I didn't like how especially Ben talked - so very weirdly. And then everytime someone told a joke - a pun - they explained it - as if we're too stupid to understand. The writing wasn't mine.
But it got better towards the end - it was okay. Cute story with not too much unnecessary drama - which I like!
Can't wait to get more Vermont soon!

Sometimes things we do when we are younger can be bigger than we thought. Kids can be heartless and comments or even a look can have a major impact. What can be worse is when the manipulative party knows they are being so...and still do the things that are unkind. It doesn't matter that the one being manipulated feels like they got something out of the deal, the damage has been done.
Murphy Landon may be feeling like she is living her Karma. Her background is full-blown New York Socialite in Capital Letters. She had all the privileges, as her parents never failed to tell her, and when she was in high school, she was sort of a part of the Mean Girl Brigade.
But, oh how the "High and Mighty" have fallen. Murphy was drummed out of NYC by her parents and a situation that brought ugly publicity to them and her. She lost her coveted position and decided to move to Vermont for a while until things settle down. She lucked out when she was hired by the Busy Bean and she is trying to just master all the drinks...I mean it shouldn't be that hard, she drank all of them when she was buying.
Murphy has much to say on that subject, it isn't as easy as she thought. It isn't the drinks that are killing her though, it is the customers, especially the one right in front of her now. This "Karen/Woman" is claiming Murphy didn't mix her drink as asked when she did. It's like she is reliving high school in the flesh but during modern times...
Oh, and to cap it off...There is a line and when the next person comes front and center, who should it be but Ben Rooney, her high school crush gone very bad with her being the one making it so. Ben was the "Scholarship Kid" and Murphy was only normal and nice when they were together alone with no one else seeing them. There was tutoring happening and Ben had a crush too.
Let's just say, their friendship didn't end well for Ben. And now he is a successful surgeon, doing very well financially and he is standing before Murphy stunned. He then is cutting and semi rude to her. He can't wrap his head around the fact that she is the coffee girl serving him. What the hell happened to her...Is she making fun of his town and all that live here? This is not right.
So this is how these two see each other after years and years, with secret crushes they both had, with Murphy being a bit defensive at first and Ben being a hard ass.
Then things change a bit. Murphy and Ben do have much in common after all and they start to see each other for the people they are now not then...
This story had lots to cover and for the most part, it was clear as to how each character was giving it their best shot. They weren't the easiest to fall for, but overall it was a solid journey.

So, I didn’t read the blurbs for any of these Busy Bean books before I jumped into them and I really regret it. I love the world, all of the writing has been awesome but, and yes there’s a but, I’ve found a few books that just don’t work for me. And they aren’t for me just based on the fact they aren’t what I prefer and so I don’t like them as much as I would like. Then again, I don’t know if having read the blurb would have made much difference.
Initially I was really liking Murphy, breaking away from the world she knew and striking out on her own to prove herself. But as time wore on she kind of annoyed me. Yes she was out on her own being the strong independent woman I liked, but she was so set on proving herself to people that didn’t or shouldn’t matter that she didn’t treat the people that did matter as well as she should. And to be honest I felt like she was kind of half in things while she was waiting for her “normal” life to recommence.
Ben I just never connected with. He kind of resented Murphy for who she was ten years ago while still wanting to sleep with her. And he got over that and wanted to have a future with her while keeping secrets about himself. Having the mention of a lady he had slept with a few times pawing at him before he went on a date with Murphy was unnecessary and made me not like him even more, like why was it even mentioned? But then he was kind of wishy washy, then he was all in and then he was making plans for his future without having mentioned it AGAIN.
I guess I just never quite got the feeling that these two ever put each other first. They were both just living their own lives parallel to each other and then coming together. Even the epilogue was kind of them each with their own secrets and her being surprised he remembered something pretty freaking major. Overall, this just wasn’t the book for me, but oh well you can’t love them all.

I liked Friendzoned, it was a nice second chance at love story.
The Busy Bean is my favourite coffee shop and I love to go back and read what's going on into it, it's a pleasure to go into it, to sit down at one of the mismatched tables and to find out what happens to the characters.
Murphy Landon is the daughter of a very wealthy family, she went to the best schools and to an Ivy League College, she left the big city after she was hit by a scandal and she went to Vermount remembering one of her school's friend spoke so high of his home state. Ben Rooney is a successful orthopedic surgeon, after years spent feeling like a social pariah going to the best schools only thanks to scolarships now he finally feels self confident, until one day he goes into the Busy Bean for an americano and he finds Murphy, the girl he liked at the prep school but who treated him like a dirty secret, behind the counter. He is surprised and curious to know how her privileged life brought her to Colebury. Could they start anew and discover their friendship for the first time? Or will Ben feel unworthy again in Murphy's company?
Murphy and Ben couldn't be more different but I liked to follow the development of their relationship and to witness their growth as persons and as couple.
This was an enjoyable read with a cast of characters I hope to see again.

2.0 stars. This is a new author to me so, didn't know what to expect. Love all things Vermont and the world Sarina Bowen started. With that in mind I jumped to read this book. Just wasn't so happy with Ben/Murphy. They're 32 years old. College was ages ago. His college longing for her as more than friends and her keeping him as a friend in secret because he didn't come from rich snobbery is over. I could expect a little uncomfortableness once she's in town, disgraced and trying to make it on her own. Ben doing well as a doctor with a few secret investments. But after the initial "things have changed" I expected they could be adults and move on with their still evident attraction. But not so much. Their mutual resentment and insecurities ran amuck for near the entire book. ARGH!!! I wanted to scream GET OVER IT ALREADY.
I kept thinking of Audrey in the True North series and how she stood on her own despite her awful, snobby mom. Murphy is no Audrey. Sure there is an eventual HEA here, but I was so disappointed in both Ben and Murphy that the insecurities ran on so long that I just didn't care.

The book seemed exciting initially. There was enough mystery but inadequate payoff. The mystery surrounding Murphy pulled me right in. Who was she? Why was she exiled from New York Society? What did she do wrong? How did she hurt Ben? So on....
Murphy is a wannabe independent woman. And to become independent she had to escape from her cushy job and luxury apartment to start everything from scratch, instead of just growing a spine and not doing things if she does not wishes to. She had the resources to be independent of her. parents. And no one really exiled her, she actually self-exiled herself, the author is not sure on the exiling part. Murphy is insecure. And she would apologize to anyone and everyone left and right. She is a doormat. And she has to explain herself to everyone she meets. And Murphy the fully fleshed out character she is has interests other than becoming an independent lady and Ben like classical music and sweet tooth.
Ben was in love with Murphy forever, or so the book says. But it seems that Ben wants to be Murphy, or a male version of her. He is insecure, even with his hard earned achievements. Does Ben dislike any of Murphy's traits? Of course he does. He dislikes her concern over her looks, like when she mentions that Vermont is not good for her hair he dislikes it. He dislikes her wearing make up and socialite clothing. He is kinda controlling her, grooming her to be his ideal woman if I may say. And in the end when he sees that Murphy does not defend Vermont to her controlling, groomers...sorry... ahem..parents he ghosts her until he makes her come to him and decides the independent woman Murphy move with him to Brooklyn leaving all her jobs and friends and VERMONT, the place which grew on her. Did I mention that he low key stalked her?
I did not like the book. It bored the hell out of me. I was not interested in Murphy, and I genuinely did not like Ben. I did not like the writing, the author repeats things too much. Nothing was left to be subtle for the reader to catch, the author tried to explain everything. Both Ben and Murphy explained their feelings in length, frequently. It was too repetitive. Another thing both Ben and Murphy are generous with are their apologies. A sorry in each paragraph was sorrily not that enjoyable. The lacked chemistry. They were supposed to have a history, but it was simply not there. It seemed like they were meeting and knowing each other for the first time, as they knew jack shit about each other.
In essence Friendzoned is a book about a woman becoming independent with the help of her MAN, with quirky side characters who will be the fodder for the author or are already exhausted of their use.
Murphy is a wannabe independent woman. And to become independent she had to escape from her cushy job and luxury apartment to start everything from scratch, instead of just growing a spine and not doing things if she does not wishes to. She had the resources to be independent of her. parents. And no one really exiled her, she actually self-exiled herself, the author is not sure on the exiling part. Murphy is insecure. And she would apologize to anyone and everyone left and right. She is a doormat. And she has to explain herself to everyone she meets. And Murphy the fully fleshed out character she is has interests other than becoming an independent lady and Ben like classical music and sweet tooth.

Did she come here to flaunt her success in his face…she could try he had done very well for himself and he really didn’t appreciate seeing her in “his” home town.
The hurt you carry with you from high school or was it the hurt he’d felt since he had feelings for her back then and she seemed to just not give a darn. But the past doesn’t often reflect on the now and his rich socialite friend didn’t look him in the eye, didn’t seem excited to see him and couldn’t answer his questions, without the tears and the heartache she was feeling.
Oh, my gosh I fell hard for these two. High school friends who could have been high school sweethearts now had so much to share with each other and oh it was so hard for both. That attraction though, that want and need to touch, to taste, to experience each other … the attraction and the heat kept building and smoldering.
I spent my day with Murphy and Ben and I felt every hurt and every wish they had and I rooted for them through this entire story! Rachel Blaufeld did well by this couple, she took them through the journey they both needed to reconnect and learn that often the past does not dictate the future. Ben and Murphy just add to the wonderful vibe set by all the couples that have been or will be a part of the Busy Bean series. Bravo!

I liked Murphy from the start, she seemed to be adjusting to trying to make it on her own by her own rules despite living a privilege life. She didn't whine or bitch, just went about putting one foot in front of the other. I wasn't sure about Ben. Sure he had a crush on Murphy when they were in high school, but now he couldn't seem to get past how she was living now. It drove me nuts how they were one step forward in things and 3 steps back. The one thing Ben did well was cheer on Murphy as she started to branch out in her different marketing jobs and that is the one thing that she really needed, someone to be a cheerleader in her court. It didn't help that in Murphy's head Vermont was a stop, not the destination, even if it was in her head and she didn't tell any one else.
I hated how things came to a head when her parents arrived and threw both Murphy and Ben off. Both seemed to need that bit of time apart to think and when they finally talked again both laid things out and saw what was important! Loved how this one ended, loved that they are living the best life together, doing what they want at each turn.

I was excited for this story and really wanted to love this story but it fell flat for me. It’s really hard to say that when I have loved everything I read of Rachel’s. I understand that the social status was part of the story and their past but I just think it was over repetitive and took away from the romance.
The chemistry was there and the sexiness was steamy but the story was just a little meh for me. It didn’t really grab me till about 80% in. With that said I’m not saying it was a bad story it may have just been me. This was just an overall okay story for me.
Don’t worry I still will pick up a book by Rachel in the future. Happy Reading!

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
This review is a difficult one for me to write because the story, Friendzoned by Rachel Blaufeld, is a story in the Busy Bean arm of the World of True North series. Thus far, whether it’s Moo U or Vino & Veritas or Busy Bean, I’ve enjoyed the stories of the authors who have deigned to write romances in this world. I can’t imagine it’s easy creating characters and their stories in a world made popular by a superstar author such as Sarina Bowen. It’s why I sign up for each ARC because I love the geographical area, the anchor characters such as the Shipleys, Audrey, Zara, Roderick, etc., and the tropes and sub-genres of these books are so enticing. All of these conspire to have me reading several books a week in this world.
But it’s difficult when you feel underwhelmed by a story. I’ll be honest. There has only been one or two that have left me this way, but Blaufeld’s Friendzoned tops that list.
Here’s the thing. There is so much well-meaning behind this story, and in our world today, her story feels important. As is the case with most of the books of this series, there is an underlying message that lends gravity to these stories that feel sweet to their very foundation. With Blaufeld’s hero, Ben, and her heroine, Murphy, we encounter discussions about socioeconomic strata and parity and the issues with coming from two very opposite sides of it. In Friendzoned, Ben was a scholarshipped football player at a private elite boarding school, and Murphy was the progeny of a couple of one-percenters. Throughout high school, in private, they relied on each other, but in public, people would be hardpressed to call them friends. This left one with feelings of resentment and the other with feelings of guilt. Several years later, Murphy has fled New York City at her parents’ prodding after a scandal, and she’s trying to make it on her own without the resources of her family. While difficult, given that she doesn’t have the skillset for the Busy Bean, each day she undertakes to get better. She is also trying to figure out who she is and what she wants from life so that she can be a better version of herself. One day, Ben comes to the Busy Bean, a far cry from his former self. A doctor who has gained affluence, he is the polar opposite of his boarding school self; however, Ben still struggles with his past and Murphy’s treatment of him. Yet, there has always been an attraction between Ben and Murphy even when they were younger and her parents wouldn’t approve. As Ben and Murphy struggle with their attraction and their present set of circumstances, they must battle for a future. Will they find one, or are they destined for the “friend zone” in perpetuity?
The strengths of Blaufeld’s story are Murphy’s journey towards living an authentic life and their eventual coupling. I’m a huge fan of makeover stories where a character redefines themself into a better version. All of that is here as Murphy comes to find what she loves about herself and life. Additionally, about two-thirds of the way through their story, you actually start to really enjoy Murphy and Ben’s relationship. There is a complication between them towards the end that is frustrating; I don’t think Blaufeld writes it well so its believability is undermined, but overall, Ben and Murphy’s struggles guide them to a beautiful happy ending that makes the entire story.
The issues I have with this book are its consistency and believability. From start to finish, there are issues with consistency in the characterization of Ben and Murphy. I found myself saying “this doesn’t make sense” quite a bit as I slogged through their journey. I’m not sure that I really liked them until their epilogue. One minute, Ben is reminded of how much he likes her, and the next, he can’t. His character progresses in that way for a large portion of the story. And Murphy mimics that as well. One minute, they seem like they are moving forward, and then Blaufeld interrupts their progression for story angles that aren’t necessary. I found my head spinning keeping track of their feelings. I simply wanted to like them more, trust in their attraction to each other, and believe that they could move forward. For much of the story, I didn’t feel that way which disappointed me because I want to like all of these stories.
Why should you read this book? You will encounter the Busy Bean crew, Zara figures pretty heavily into Ben and Murphy’s burgeoning relationship. You are also offered more of Hunnie and Gigi from Claire Hastings’s Cakewalk. Honestly, I left this book praying that Hunnie will have a story. If that is enough for you to find your way to the Busy Bean world, then you should grab Friendzoned.

Friendzoned in the fourth book in the Busy Bean Series set in Sarina Bowen’s World of True North, but it’s a complete standalone. It can be enjoyed one hundred percent by itself.
I love the books I have read in the Busy Bean series, but I have mixed feelings about this one. Friendzoned is the story of Murphy and Ben, who went to school together fourteen years ago and reconnect after Murphy is “forced” to leave New York and gets a job as a barista at the Busy Bean where Ben goes for coffee when he’s in Colebury Vermont.
I really liked Murphy. I think she’s funny and determined and very brave. She’s not very self-confident but that’s understandable given the circumstances she’s facing, but sometimes it was a bit annoying.
I honestly didn’t like Ben, and that bothered me. He’s supposed to have been in love with Murphy when they were kids, but he came across as mean and insulting. More than was warranted in my opinion. In the end I did end up liking him, but it wasn’t enough for me. I guess it’s a me problem, but I think he could have been nicer in general.
My big problem with this story is that it’s too repetitive and a lot of the drama between the characters happened fourteen years ago when they were in high school. Ben was in love with her and she was only his friend behind closed doors because they came from different worlds, meaning she was a rich girl and he was a poor scholarship student. They mentioned this fact so much that I just couldn’t stand it. And it may be me, but I didn’t feel the chemistry between them at all except in the end. It felt forced to me.
I did like Murphy’s struggle and her road to overcoming her preconceived notions about success and family expectations. She grows as a person so much it was nice to see. Her friendship with Hunny is a delight basically because Hunny is a wonderful character. She adds a Vermont flavor to the story with her hippiness, her farm and honey business, and her wonderful personality.
I didn’t love this book but I have loved the Busy Bean series so far, so I’m really looking forward to more books in the series.

I have been thinking about this since I finished it yesterday and all the possible reasons why I think that this is so meh. Like it's overall ok (and certainly not bad) but I think that it could have been better. The backstory was shallow and the reader was meant to simply accept it which made the foundation of the overall story shaky. But in the end, I think that for me what didn't work was the revelation of his "secret" that fell so, so, so short. When he was making comments in his internal monologue saying that he "didn't want people to know" and that they would "look at him differently" ... I thought, OK HERE WE GO, POTENTIALLY SALACIOUS THINGS AHEAD! I really thought that he was going to reveal that he did porn or escorted or some other frowned upon thing to make the money it would take to put himself through med school (because how many more times could it be said that he was a scholarship kid and she's wealthy) only to return to his quiet town to live his quiet life and be the do-gooder that he always was. Nope. He was simply hiding success and the fact that he didn't want people to mooch off him and that was an overall letdown. I mean, I guess it says something that I am still thinking about it? My disappointment? And that's got to count for something, right?

Friendzoned by Rachel Blaufield written in Sarina Bowen’s True North world is a sweet second chance/slow burn romance.
Murphy is working at the Busy Bean Cafe. She has recently moved to Vermont after leaving a previous life of a socialite in NYC. Ben is an orthopaedic surgeon.
I really struggled to connect with Murphy. I wasn’t a fan of how she treated Ben in the past. There was a lot of time spent talking and rehashing their past and the amount of time spent apologizing became repetitive and found it took away from the characters forming a deeper connection in the present.
Ben is patient and kind. He is focused and hard working. BUT he is also hiding a secret. Between Murphy’s coolness and Ben’s inability to truly open up to Murphy I really struggled to keep interested.
The best parts of the story were reconnecting with the Busy Bean crew. I will always and forever want more of the Zara, Audrey and Roderick!

I really enjoyed this one. I really liked Murphy. She's creating a new version of herself she can be proud of. She never thought she'd run into Ben again, but here in this little town Ben walks in for his coffee fix. Ben and Murphy have a history. Some of it not so pleasant to think about, but life has given these two a second chance of what could have been years ago. I loved watching Ben and Murphy reconnect and see the people they are today. Though life is going to throw some curve balls their way. The epilogue was the perfect touch to end this one on. When I finished reading this one I had a huge smile on my face.

Murphy is a former NY socialite, fallen from grace and now she works as a barista at the Busy Bean in Vermont.
Ben is a surgeon and they share a past. Now Ben has made it and Murphy has to figure out her life.
A slow burn, low on drama, entertaining read. I loved to connect with the characters and I loved meeting characters fom previous books.

A slow burn, low on drama, entertaining read. I loved to connect with the characters and I loved meeting characters fom previous books.

Friendzoned is a cute, sometimes super sexy, second chance love story between high school pals, Murphy and Ben, who crushed on each while at their NYC prep school.
After losing contact with each other, their worlds collide, in a not surprising way when Murphy rejects her privileged life and moves to Vermont, where pal Ben grew up and always expounded on his happiness at coming from the rural area. While she may not be living the life her parents would choose for herself, she's finding her way. Ben has acquired the success he wanted as a surgeon, but he's definitely not living his life for himself, and this is something his connection with Murphy will test.
This was a fun read and I really enjoyed Murphys character growth. While the two actualize the feelings for each other, they find internal happiness and path forward, together. 4 stars and recommendation.

Murphy is working at the Busy Bean, but really doesn't fit the usual bill of a barista. We soon learn that she has escaped from a bit of a scandal in New York City, where her politician father and pushy (understatement of the millennium) mother rule her life, even now she is in her thirties. She plans on returning one day, but for now needs to regroup and consider what her values are, rather than those of her socialite parents. I liked her naivety and her honesty, but she has still some more lessons to learn. What is truly lovely is how she finds that she has the ability to make friends, real genuine, trustworthy friends. Whilst most of us aren't that sympathetic of the poor little rich girl, Murphy is clearly torn between family loyalty, expectations, and breaking free, and for her, the friendships really are the breaking point. I like that it wasn't just Ben who made her see what was important, but that knowing what was important, he was the most important of all.
Ben and Murphy knew each other at their posh prep school. He was the scholarship boy, never fitting in and very much in love with Murphy. Since then, he has become a successful surgeon, designed a medical app which is making him a lot of money, and is back in town to support his parents and sister. Little did he expect to ever see Murphy again. All the emotions he feels really shake him up and make him question his feelings, his priorities, and whether it can all be true and his for the taking.
I loved that Murphy makes friends with Hunnie and Gigi, and how she used her marketing skills to promote them all... and set up a book club in the Busy Bean. Although, of course, I loved the epilogue possibly most of all!

May 21, 2021I’m newbie to Rachel Blaufeld’s writing and the “Busy Bean” series. But I love the second chance and friends to lovers romance tropes - also, who doesn’t love coffee shop setting - so I was all
gimme!!!
when I saw the blurb. Reunited with your high school crush at the coffee shop and the table turned - I mean, come on!! I should have toned down my excitement for a bit though as it didn’t pan out as I expected it’d be.
Murphy Landon was the poor little rich girl who always followed the (society) rules set by her parents. Her only “rebellion” was her behind-the-door friendship with the scholarshipped student who tutored her in (prestigious boarding) high school, Ben Rooney. Both had a crush on each other but never really acted on it aside from a prom night date gone wrong. Fourteen years later, Ben was a successful orthopedic surgeon with a side lucrative business and Murphy was a disgraced college advisor and exiled by her wealthy and prominent family. What hasn’t changed were their attraction to one another.
The story is told in first person alternately from Ben and Murphy’s POVs. I thought it would allow (readers) more insight into the characters and help making the flow of the story smoother. Unfortunately what I felt was the awkward dynamics between our MCs and the choppy storyline with prolonged dithering of both from moving on. There was a number of promising backstory (from both characters) not expounded nearly enough as to explain why Ben and Murphy behaving the way they were.
It was also exhausting to follow the repeated “sorry” or “when we were at Pressman” from either of them. Murphy’s snobby parents didn’t help matter but what’s worse for me was the lack of apology after the worse what’s supposed to be dating turned into disaster. Murphy seemed to flip back from a wannabe independent woman into heartless society cow without resistant whatsoever. Worse still was Ben ghosting her without any explanation, only later on described as an aside having to deal with prospective so and so. From disastrous “not dating” to lack of grand gesture to proclaim their undying love and future together - these really boggled my mind!
The upside of the story came from a few supporting characters, such as their friends and Ben’s family. I honestly didn’t think I could trudge on if it wasn’t for them and their lively camaraderie. What a bummer, really. I was so sure I’m gonna love the story.

There she discovers pieces of herself, the things she likes and dislikes, the kind of work she'd like to do, and Ben Rooney.
Their initial interaction left something to be desired. But who could blame Ben? The one public event that he and Murphy attended together did not end on a good note. However, now that he's feeling like an outsider in his own town, he gives a relationship with Murphy a chance. She's standing on her own two feet, living in a place she can afford, putting her social media skills to good use, and making new friends. She and Ben are in a good place getting to know each other. But the bubble is burst when her parents come to town and it's anyone's guess whether or not Ben and Murphy will be able to keep their relationship or stay in the friendzone.
I love how these characters are multifaceted and a bit complex. Murphy had a multitude of things going against her and Ben was still feeling like the loner scholarship student even though the tables have turned. I like how the author showed Murphy's growth from being superficial to being real and having Ben see things from a different perspective. This couple fits well into the Busy Bean Series family.

Lighthearted, quirky, fun read.
This read proves that Karma exists and she’s alive and well.
This is the story of Murphy and Ben. They knew each other once upon a time when they went to the same school. She was the rich, spoiled entitled NYC socialite, he was the “scholarship kid” from a humble background.
Fast forward 14 years, and Murphy finds herself fallen hard from the socialite world and working in a coffee shop in Vermont. One of her customers ends up being none other than Ben who is now a successful surgeon.
These 2 characters were for me not easy to like but they grew on me as they story evolved into a slow burn bittersweet journey.
They have a long and unpleasant history, which honestly surprised me they could even like each other.
Roles have been reversed, but old feelings and unresolved issues are still there, including a secret crush!
Ben and Murphy hit some bumps as they attempt to move forward and resolve some of their struggles.
Reading how they came to terms with old feelings and moved forward made this story enjoyable, page turner and the epilogue was a great addition!

Friendzoned is part of the Busy Bean series, which is part of the Sarina Bowen's True North world. The author, Rachel Blaufeld, is so good and sensitive in the book. The characters are engaging and sincere.
The story is about Murphy, an ex-socialite from NYC, who has had a downfall and decides to move to Vermont to start again her life. Right there trying to work as a barist in the Busy Bean she reconnects with her old friend Ben. They studied together in a rich and fancy prep school, but Ben was in a scholarship and was rather mistreated by everyone except Murphy. Still they had a fallen out and now in Vermont they reconnect.
I love second chances and Murphy and Ben deserve their chance in love.
The book is well written and engaging.

Unfortunately I had a lot of trouble connecting to this story. The way they would go from being friendly to feeling defensive and hurt in a matter of seconds gave me whiplash. And they did that so many times. And the relationship in general didn't feel natural at all, it felt very forced me. I didn't feel the connection. I didn't feel why they wanted to be together. Besides the fact that they found each other attractive.
I loved Hunnie. She had me cracking up laughing with her ramblings.
I found the family dynamics between Ben and his sister interesting. But overall this book just wasn't my cup of tea

You can always change, but be true to yourself.
Ben grew up poor, until he wasn’t. Murphy was a socialite, until she wasn’t. Ben came back to Vermont a doctor and a coder. Murphy left New York and landed in Vermont. But now their roles were reversed. Both struggled living the life that was no longer in existence. Boy, it was hard for both of them. Doing their best, their previous lives would surface periodically. Ben always loved Murphy. They went to high school together. She liked him, but had to keep up the persona of her life, but in private she could be herself. They get together in Vermont, work through their struggles, and end up together. But this is just touching the surface of this story. Lots of patience in this book, lots of steam and lots of love.

I am in denial that this book is over - I wanted it to continue forever! Murphy is a little tough to get behind - but I got there. And Ben, I loved him from the start, even with his secrets and flaws. These two have such a history and life has thrown then back together, it was fun to watch them figure out themselves and each other. Vermont was adorable and the setting made me want to go visit! And as always, an amazing epilogue - I never feel unsatisfied when I finish one of Rachel Blaufeld's books!!

Sweet Second Chance meeting in the Busy Bean.
Murphy flees her life in New York because of a scandal. A friend recommended that she go to Vermont for this second chance. While there trying her hand at working at the coffee shop she runs into Ben who she met in high school. Ben was from the other side of the tracks and was only there in the school thanks to a scholarship. Ben is a surgeon now and the shoe is now on the other foot.
It's sweet slow burn story filled with love and romance and emotion.
