Eleanor Nielson always wanted to follow in her distinguished parents’ footsteps, becoming a teacher and living a life of selfless community service – until she tried it. Now, she’s run away to find herself and decide what she wants to do with the rest of her life, but she can’t skip her parents’ anniversary party, and she needs a date. Mechanical engineer David Reid has his life all planned out, and he’s ready for the next a loving wife who will share his faith and work at his side when he becomes a pastor. But a good woman is hard to find, so like any good engineer, David turns the project over to an online matchmaking agency. The pretty, blond teacher with denim blue eyes seems like a match made in heaven. Or is she too good to be true?
After 40 years of wandering (but always in lovely places and not in a desert), Cathe Swanson has recently returned to her childhood home and family in Minnesota.
In the summer, she and her husband enjoy spending time with their grandchildren and being outdoors, gardening, hiking, birdwatching, and kayaking. The long winters are perfect for writing books, playing games, reading, and indoor hobbies. Cathe's been a quilter and teacher of quiltmaking for 35 years and enjoys just about any kind of creative work, especially those involving fiber or paper.
Everything inspires new books! A lifelong love of quilting, Cathe’s Swedish heritage and an interest in genealogy led to The Glory Quilts series, and the Hope Again series is inspired by her life in the Midwest and experiences with the elderly, the military, and inner-city ministry. As a child of the 60’s, she’s currently having fun writing about hippies and the Jesus People movement.
Cathe writes books with creative plots and engaging characters of all ages, to glorify God and entertain and bless readers. Her heartwarming stories will make you laugh and make you cry—and then make you laugh again.
Cathe is the queen of writing interesting characters you haven't already read a million times. Nothing says "read me" like a book whose characters demand I fall in love with them. Eleanor kept me engaged (and laughing) from the first page to the last. Add to that a hero who is serious about finding "the one" when Eleanor just needs a pretend boyfriend for a party and you've got an interesting story with fabulous characters. A GREAT addition to the Glory Quilts series!
In a small town where everybody knows everybody, Eleanor Neilson turns to an online matchmaking service in an attempt to find a date for a family party. She somehow matches with David, a man in seminar studying to be a pastor. They’re both looking for very different things and each questioning their future. Can Eleanor and David allow family and friends to encourage them and point them in the right direction?
Matched Hearts was so sweet and perfect for reading on a cold winter day (or even a Valentine’s Day read). I loved the sentiment packed into the story and admired author Cathe Swanson for not shying away from talking about Jesus (or questioning one’s calling in ministry). The story did take me a few minutes to get into and I had a hard time keeping up with the names of so many family members in the beginning, but I might have had an easier time if I had read Penny’s story in the first book in The Glory Quilts series. I’m hopeful that Swanson will continue the series and that more answers will be revealed throughout her storytelling.
People who enjoy books with a lot of connected, well-written characters will enjoy this book. The main focus of the book is on a woman who is having difficulty finding her calling in life. She trained for a job she dislikes and has a lot of familial pressure to continue in that profession.
As the book continues, she finds a new professional life as well as enjoyable new hobbies. She begins to make friends who enjoy her for being “her.”
I like the book but found it too slow. Nothing really happens; rather, the book is written mostly as a series of interactions between characters. Some of these are very funny and important to the overall story, and others just seemed off topic to me. The book introduces a lot of different characters so some readers will enjoy the richness of the world building.
The romance is delayed by a series of events until the very end where it is begun with a grand gesture of sorts. David becomes a kind of hero rescuing Eleanor at the 11th hour. It is very sweet but a little too slow for me.
Eleanor Nielsen spent Thanksgiving with her family to spent the entire time trying to get her back into teaching which she can quit. They refuse to understand that she no longer wanted to be she wanted to do something else. She met David Reid who was going to an online seminary studying to be a pastor. The book was okay I thought there be more about quilt but there wasn't which disappointed me but it was an easy read and Ms. Swanson has an excellent writing style...
This was a sweet Christian romance about Eleanor, who needs a date for a family party, and David who is looking for “the one.” They both sign up for an online matchmaking service, but soon realize they are looking for different things. As their paths keep crossing, they start to realize how much they do like each other. I got this for free on a “load your Kindle” promotion, not realizing it was the second book on the story. At the beginning, I felt like the author expected me to already know some of the characters. Overall, it was cute but needed more work on plot and pacing.
This is an overtly Christian story. They actually meet before they are matched... thankfully they are willing to overlook that and start again. Both are hopeful of their match until the answers to the serious questions out. They aren't as compatible as the matchmaking agency thought they'd be... Or are they?
This was a sweet story of people who make mistakes--well-intentioned mistakes, but nevertheless mistakes that hurt others. Some were able to learn from those mistakes and grow, but others didn't. It was a good, interesting story.
