The story is short, romantic, steamy, angsty with suspense and drama, not to forget the twists that will make the readers hooked to the story. The story continues after the cliff hanger at the end of Book 3 (Protecting Shannon).
The plot is engrossing with amazing characters who have incredible chemistry. A highly recommended book for readers who like this genre.

Personal Take:
I have been waiting for this book for nearly two months now and I am so happy that the characters could finally get their HEA. The author introduced several characters in this book, some I wanted to strangle and some I wanted to read more about. Hopefully @authormishablake will be writing more about them ❤️. I just loved how Shannon and Eric could understand each other so well through out their story. He vowed to protect her and he did. This book has everything a romance reader, like me, looks for, romance, suspense, drama, steam, angst and a HEA. Can't wait to read Maddox's book

“Protected” by @authormishablake is a Novella and part of The Rayton Brothers series. MUST be read after “Protecting Shannon”❤️.

𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑛𝑔: ★★★★/5

after close to losing the love of his life Agent Eric Rhodes is determined to do anything to protect her now more than ever. by anything he also means the unthinkable. he can’t fathom a life without her. to worsen things, Eric is struggling with his own demons and can’t forget the friend he once promised to protect and unfortunately failed at. Eric is adamant in not letting that repeat itself.

really enjoyed this book😍. very steamy (and i mean very🥵), suspenseful & thrilling🔥. i will say though, i did find it hard to connect with the characters the first few chapters. until further down the story did i grew more intrigued and curious, which ultimately left me wanting reading more❤️. every question left unanswered in the previous book was finally answered here, something i was much looking forward to❤️. also, that revelation at the end had me shook, was not expecting it👀.

if any of you are ever looking for a good steamy suspenseful romance, @authormishablake’s got you covered😘🔥.

I'm not gonna lie I was gonna give this a solid 4/5. Nothing was wrong with it, I loved everything about it BUT I wasn't obsessed with it. Something was missing until misha dropped us a bombshell and now I must wait for the next book!

It's late, I need to sleep but damn this was such a good read 😍 💜

Edit: I've waited for Eric and Shannon story and once again misha killed it. The steam, suspense and oh my, those twists 🤯.
Think NSIC vibes with an alpha male with a dirty mouth 🥵. Protected is the perfect ending for Eric and Shannon.

P.s. don't think misha was kind, she leaves us with a cliffhanger 😝 I'm so excited for Maddox's story

description

Supervisory Special Agent Eric Rhodes and ADA Shannon Quinn are "in hiding" after an attempt in the latter's life came from the last book. Eric is still battling his traumatic past while protecting himself and Shannon as the FBI is trying to close in the suspects operating a big crime syndicate in Richmond. Amidst searching all those months, there were no leads on the shooter or the cartel leader.

True to Blake's past works, expect to be sucked into the world of mystery, suspense, and internal conflicts. What to expect in Protected?
There are the usual steamy scenes, broken characters, complex connections and revelations, and jaw-dropping revelations that lead to a spectacular ending...or not!

The POV's from Eric and Shannon's POV and the writing was a thrilling one. From the very start, the writing will suck readers in. It was impossible not to be involved with suspense, intrigue, and more questions popping up each chapter - where, who, why, and how. The main character's inquisitive and internal thought helped a lot.

I love honest and rational characters. There's a significant turning point in the book that deals with Eric's past and present "colliding." The author did not shy away from dealing with the situation head-on. (FYI: I was curious if either main character's "pasts" comes back, and true enough - the author delivers!) Eric's reaction showed how much he has grown and the level of commitment he was willing to go for Shannon. His honesty and voicing his feelings clear in this scene made me fall for him all over again! He did not "ignoring" the incident and instead explained it perfectly. I love the author's decision on this scene. It goes against the grain of adding more conflict when the suspense is already killing me.
"If there's somebody who I know with certainty will always find me, that someone is you."
-- Shannon, Protected

Note that all the characters were blatantly honest, which is very refreshing for me. Yes, there were internal insecurities, but the characters did not hold back and speak their truths when asked outright. Most of the highlighted quotes in my ebook are all Eric's. Even with him all "broken," he comes out very enlightened and changed in this journey!

Protected will keep you guessing until the ending - a word of advice, DON'T. Just enjoy the story because I am sure you would not have thought this one. Gosh, the "secrets" that came out in the end - SHOCKER! What a great connection that transitions into the next book in the series. Warning: Readers, you will be "on the edge of your seat" until the last chapter - believe me on this! Even until the end, the biggest shock comes "when the dust settles" and - just you think you can breathe easy - you can't.

I love the "love letter to readers" from Eric and Shannon at the end. It's a goodbye letter for readers but also gives them a final say. This last part was a challenging read. I felt torn between wanting to hold on to Eric and letting him go to have his HEA. It brings joy and sadness all at the same time - as readers move to the next book in the series - Maddox's story is coming!
"I will always find you no matter where you are, and regardless of how lost I am in this life, you are the woman I will unfailingly find my way back to. Always."

This is a short spin-off of Protecting Shannon.
We have already met Shannon and Eric in "Protecting Shannon"
Now, after faking Shannon's death to the world... Would Eric be able to protect Shannon from someone who tried to kill her once.

Shannon's character wasn't as strong as I expected till the scene where she was abducted, she felt very timid a damsel in distress... though when she was supposed to be a strong feirce lawyer...
The story felt a little off after the abduction of Shannon bcoz it got a bit confusing for me.

Raven's entery didn't hold any significance for me.
if it was to show Eric's loyalty and love. That was pretty much clear the minute he left everything and moved to lake city for Shannon.

I loved Eric and how understanding he was during the hiding.
I loved Shannon's and Ravens showdown, though I didn't see Raven fighting for Eric as much as I thought she would.
The writing skills as usual were not of someone new but a very experienced person's, no unnecessary difficult heavy vocabulary was used.
The ending was as expected beautiful.
I just loved Shannon's and Eric's hot chemistry
and I have more reason to revisit "Protecting Shannon"...

After Shannon and Eric end up living a fake married life something is bound to happen... but I wanted to see more of their life after this whole ordeal ended... did they struggle? Was it love or infatuation and was it only Eric's instinct to protect Shannon after he couldn't his former partner Hailee or did he loved her for real...
This is the only thing I wanted more (Greedy Me).

Sex was as usual Hot 🔥 and bothering.

The short notes at the end of the book are so cute... it really makes the reader feel connected to the author.
Really looking forward to the "Sinner in the city series" from this author.

Protected is the perfect companion to follow up the story of how Eric and Shannon meet and fall in love. Theirs is a hard fought and hard won love that is all consuming and undeniably breathtaking. There is nothing easy about these two coming together. They have had to fight for what they wanted and then declare war to get what they needed. Not even family and friends know the extent to which they have bled and suffered to get their happy ending.

It would seem that Eric and Shannon have finally obtained their beautiful happy ending, but that is not the case. In fact, they find themselves on shaky ground that is soon losing its solidity. The fear of the unknown and the stark reminder that tomorrow is not guaranteed has them both on edge and grasping for some solid hope. Will they learn how to shed their past and walk confidently into their future in time to have one?

I was blown away by the unwavering intensity of their connection, the unrelenting love that only continues to grow, and their sheer will to push forward together despite the odds. This is a powerful couple who can truly beat any struggle as long as they stick together and love each other.

Misha knows how to push and challenge her readers. She makes you step onto painful ground and show you what you can have if you can conquer your fears. This is romance that is as real as it gets!
