The path of her destiny is written within her blood. Myra is a carefree twenty-two year old who prefers to stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, all it takes is one night, one decision, and her life changes forever. On her way home after a night out with friends, Myra runs into the Denver Demons—a dangerous gang of men known for their glowing eyes thought to be simple colored contacts. It’s only after being kidnapped that Myra discovers who and what they truly are. Mutts. Half human, half dragon, and they want something from her—something hidden in her blood. Turns out she’s a mutt herself, and they need her dragon power in order to become stronger. Saved by a group of dragons determined to fight the Denver Demons, Myra is dragged into a world that should have belonged to fantasy. Now she must decide whether she wants to return to her human life, or embrace the dragon inside her.

If you are looking for a quick book to read then you should read this book. It is a different from what I usually read. However the characters are wonderful and the story is good. It does start off a little slow but once you get to the good parts it does take off. Then everything just flows easier. I loved how the main character Myra does not have an internal battle going on about accepting who she is. The story mainly focuses on the transition part for Myra and there is a happily ever after ending. I wish that there was more background to the story as to whether her family suffered through this. Other than that, it was a great short read.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It provides a fantasy based reason so many are dealing with regular physical pains. I recommend this book for fans of dragons.
A dragon short-I love it! It gave me a paranormal fix instantly! It started a wee bit slow, but I think as a reader I needed that--it was a balance in a way. Once the story takes off it really zooms. I read the preview at the back and I definitely need me some more dragons!
Unfortunately, whilst this began quite strongly it ended up feeling like a rushed prequel rather than something whole in and of itself. There is so much potential here that could be maximised by slowing down and exploring the characters and the world building, but it all goes past in a blink of an eye, never really giving you enough to sink your teeth into.
It's a shame because the author clearly has talent and the opening chapters show that she can delve into characters well. The understanding of chronic pain symptoms for example is drawn upon well. It all kind of rushes into a blur once our lead character is kidnapped and her heritage discovered. Rather than leading us through a slow transformation, we are put on a high speed treadmill. The romance is blindly obvious from the moment she awakes, and the decisions she makes much the same. The bad guys disappear without further explanation or background and the new gang are two dimensional due to the lack of time spent on them.
If I had one piece of advice for the author it would be to slow down. Scale it back and bring your reader into the magic and wonder that you can so clearly see here. Expand on the events and the emotions because this has a huge amount of promise, but didn't quite hit centre of the goal for me.
Myra has experienced chronic pain for years and the doctors haven't had any idea of how to treat it. But when she is abducted by several men claiming to be part dragon, everything changes. She learns that she is also part dragon and the internal pain is caused by her dragon part and her human part reacting. She then must choose which she wants to be, human or dragon? But once she decides, there will be no going back.
While this book was a bit short for my tastes, there weren't too many characters to keep track of and the progression constantly kept me guessing. It was a lot of fun to read. Myra's human roommate is a kick and her love interest is very sweet. Now, if only Katie could write a book that doesn't involve one of her characters being kidnapped (she's three for three in the books I've read so far)!
Her life is pain, her struggle is real, but she's over here enduring. In one day, she's got her hair dyed, a photo shoot with energy flowing through her, a pub, meet and cute, and kidnapped.
The bad guys wanted to drain her of blood, but she was more than willing, if the pain would go away. For good. The good guy, Rhys and his peers end up saving her painful ass from death. A two-week period told in 100-some pages where we find Myra is a dragon with pretty scarlet wings and a damn desire to live both lives - a dragon and a human -, and apparently, the next installment, will entertain the next phase of her life.
But obviously, not before falling in love somewhat. It's short and sweet be honest. Now, I can turn into a dragon and have my head stop pounding every other day? Or that's just fiction too? Lol.
Excellent as a novella, as the start of a new series, not so much. For a couple reasons, 1) its a speed read, so much background, (such a Myra's parents), that could've (and should've) been fleshed out at least a bit more, for the sake of plot understanding, and for the character's personal reasons, and many side characters are rather 2 dimensional. Hopefully the sequel expands on the these weak point, along with this world in general. Im still going to read the next because it was still an entertaining couple of hours, with much more unexplored potential to draw upon within these pages.
Dragon Blood was an awesome story. Myra is a shy introvert girl who has always fought with a pain in her stomach and she has no idea why. She has a best friend Harper who tries to get her out of her comfort zone. They go out one night and Rhys is introduced. Myra goes through a situation and in order to understand, Rhys along with four others stick around. It was a wonderful quick read. I sure hope there is another book!
A short and sweet coming into yourself story complete with an HEA. The characters are set to motion quickly as this author takes you down Myra’s journey into discovering her true self. This book fits the bill for any reader looking for a quick and simple pick me up. All my reviews are always voluntarily written.
I've had this series in my Kindle as a TBR for ages and decided I needed a Katie Cherry 'fix', having read her main series a while ago. I was not disappointed! This book is well written and the pain Myra feels daily is so believable. I love her 'cure'! It's a short read that I recommend to all fantasy lovers.
Interesting coming of age story. Talked into getting a new hairstyle and going out to a pub, Myra learns she has dragon blood-and so do her kidnappers. The ease with which Myra accepts everything was a little hard to swallow, although getting relief from chronic pain would be a huge motivator. I also wanted more story! I'm intrigued enough to read book two.
This was an entertaining quick read. Katie did a great job with the main character Myra and a new take on bringing dragons to life. The story was slow at first but once it picked up I couldn't stop reading. Hope to see more to come on this storyline!
Fun, short story. I would love to give this more stars but there is so much left unsaid and felt so rushed. I know, I know it's because it is a novella. I needed this story to be a full length novel! Looking forward to the second novella. Well thought out, great descriptions.
I obtained this story free from GoodReads, with only a brief description of the book. It is probably geared more for YA readers, but that was not specified. I was hoping for something a little meatier.
This is a good little novella with a different and interesting take on dragons. It could be expanded on fairly easily, I think, to make a longer book but it is a decent quick read. The journey of discovery seemed quite quick and compacted and could maybe include some more detail
This was a great book! It wasn't super long but it was totally worth reading! The main girl in it was likeable and Rhys sounds like a really great guy too! It pulled me in and I couldn't put it down!
An interesting twist to Dragons living with humans. I was captivated by the concept but the over all read was a little slow for me. Good story and characters.
Loved it!! Has a different look on dragons! Really enjoyed the whole series!! Definitely recommend and hope to see more! I loved it so much I named my dog after the main character!!!!!
What a new way of taking on the dragon world. Could you believe that maybe dragons walk among humans like you and me? Maybe so. Author Katie Cherry took the fantasy to a whole new level with this short story about Myra and her life and what it is about to become
