This collection of essays pays tribute to the manifold career of Peter Russell, a political scientist and an energetic participant in constitutional debate. Based on the proceedings of a conference held in 1996, the book is divided into five Constitutional Politics, Aboriginal Peoples, Security and Intelligence, Law and Society and the Courts. The essays themselves discuss important issues throughout Russell's scholarship, including democratic accountability, political deliberation, and cultural diversity. Joseph Fletcher has brought together a group of contributors, both scholars and practitioners, whose backgrounds reflect Russell's own diverse academic and personal interests. As a result, the work is a successful blend of analysis and reflection. Few Canadian academics exhibit the level of productivity that Peter Russell has over the years, and this collection celebrates his significant contribution as a scholar and an activist.
