An author, musician, counseling psychologist, and animal rights activist, Dariel writes interracial/multicultural paranormal romance and dark urban fantasy featuring shifters, Nephilim, angels, and reluctant demons, all filled with action, alpha heroes, and strong heroines. As a child, she could always be found curled up with her dogs, cats, and a good book, even if the book was a dictionary or encyclopedia. Things have not changed much.
Dariel is a classically trained soprano, and plays more than 11 musical instruments. She also completed coursework and passed comprehensives for a Ph.D. in Instructional Design (ABD), tutors writing, algebra, and statistics, and readily admits to being a Netflix paranormal and action series binge-watcher.
I actually got pretty far with this one. I enjoyed getting to know David and the curse that seemed to haunt him and his ancestors. However, Katala annoyed me and I couldn't take one more second in her head. I might come back to this one in the future.
A thrilling story about a mystery curse that has plague David’s family for generations. I loved trying to unravel the mystery as I read! It kept me in suspense the whole way through. I enjoyed the mystery, the second chance at love and redemption that made the story what it was.
Even as a child Katala felt a deep attraction to David Stringfellow, one she neither understood nor indeed, knew what to do about. Despite the pair hardly ever seeing each other after their childhood both still retained the memory of their deep affection and attraction. When David’s father dies and leaves his immense wealth to his only son, the will has some strange stipulations that will forever change the lives of Katala and David. In Devil’s Claim, authors Dariel Raye and Muffy Wilson bring us a tale that spans the generations and cultures. They take us back to the old west, where Native American’s are being forced from their land and African-American’s, even the free ones, are consistently captured, rounded-up and forced back into slavery and subjugation. David and Katala’s forebears set in motion a chain of events that will see a curse follow the Stringfellow clan down the generations until the present day. Can David and Katala finally break this horrific curse that has held his line in its thrall for so many years?
Devil’s Claim was a veritable romp through so many different and new ideas; black magic, curses, witchcraft, Native American traditions and customs, spirits, and demons. Author’s Dariel Raye and Muffy Wilson have crafted a wonderful romance that links Karma across the generations and requires the two main characters to break the Karmic cycle somehow. Although in its early chapters the story felt slightly disjointed and as a reader I struggled to come to terms with the connections and more importantly the effects of the Karmic events, through the ages, the more I read, the more entranced I became, with the story. Both Katala and David were wonderfully drawn characters who exhibited the difficulties and challenges of different cultural histories living together, in harmony, in the 21st Century. The clash of their cultures and beliefs with modern life was one of the keys to the success of the story. This certainly isn’t a book for the young and the relationship scenes between the two were exciting, frank, and hot, without crossing that invisible line into smut. The sex scenes were intrinsic to the understanding of the depth of their relationship across the generations and were beautifully handled by the authors. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and if a love story with an esoteric and magical background is your thing, you will love it too. I’ll give big “up’s” to these two authors.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. The book is about a family (Stringfellow) that is curse. Aidan was the one that was cursed because of what happen in the past. Aidan Stringfellow V tried to keep the curse from coming true for his son. Katala was trying to help her sister because her sister was sick. David is trying to keep it from coming true. His father put in his will that his son and Katala. Now would be the time to get the book and find out what happens. I will be getting more from this author. Thank you for writing the book so we can read them.
A story about trust, love and respect. Katala (FMC) is dropped right in the middle of an age long curse and prophecy when Uncle Aiden (not by family just a name) writes into his will that he wants his son David to marry her & stay married for two years in order for them to receive their inheritance. Not as easy as it sounds as Katala slowly find out over the course of their time together. What she finds out or not could have huge consequences to both of them. A refreshingly different love story. Not a sunshine and flowers book but one of trust and finding love in an unexpected way. A great read
Aiden just wants to protect his son, David, from a family curse. Katala has disliked David since they were young, but now she's falling for him. After discovering the truth behind the curse, she will try her best to save him. Can she save him before the devil claims their souls?
Dariel and Muffy- this complexity stemmed from generation to generation of a curse that was accidentally made . I love how both characters had to learn about each other before even dealing with the curse!!
