Juntando negócios e esporte, Ferran escreveu um livro onde não apenas os amantes do futebol e empresários podem tirar grandes lições, mas sim qualquer pessoa que queira aplicar os métodos e as táticas utilizadas para reerguer o Barcelona em suas vidas pessoais e profissionais.

Bom livro, principalmente pra quem deseja trabalhar no âmbito empresarial e de intermediários no futebol. O livro mostra bons conceitos e ideias usadas pelo autor desde que começou a fazer parte da gestão do FC Barcelona, em meados de 2003.

Between 2003 to 2008, Barcelona FC underwent daring changes that quadrupled the revenue of the club, making it bigger than Manchester United, and laid the foundation for Pep Guardiola's golden era in Barcelona.

Published in Spanish in 2009 and English in 2012, Soriano offers management lessons from his experience at Barcelona during this period where he was a Board Member and acting CEO.

Takeaways

1. Having a strategy in running a club is paramount. Barcelona is a global brand. To retain this status, it needs to win regularly. The challenge is to do it profitably. Football is a perverse industry where players take the outsized rewards for little risk. The club carries the can.

2. Stadiums are a major source of revenue. Barcelona tripled revenues in five years. This included raising ticket prices, doing stadium tours and selling hospitality boxes. In Barcelona, it is quite amazing how season ticket fans would prefer to leave their seat empty than sell their seats on the open market. The seat is regarded as something personal. They will not move even if offered a better seat. They spend generations sitting next to the same people. That is the degree of attachment Catalonians have to the community and the club. Demand is very inelastic.

3. All big clubs target Asia (especially China and Japan) and the US as key growth markets.

4. Every team goes through a cycle. At different stages, the type of leadership required is different. When necessary, a club must not be afraid to change managers and players. Both are required to keep the squad fresh and hungry for more.

As a management book it was ok. What I enjoyed was learning the management side of the football house including the strategies to build a global brand, to quadruple revenue, to build a team of players that win regularly and to make the club motto "mes que un club" or "more than a club" relevant to the world.

Soriano was part of the Laporta Group that was voted out in 2010. Barcelona has since seen both its performance on the field and its financial position diminished. Laporta has just been reelected to fix the club after the last few years under Bartomeu.

Ferran Soriano is today the CEO of the City Group.

Ferran Soriano, ex vicepresidente económico del Barça con Joan Laporta y que ahora trabaja para el Manchester City, plasma en este libro su visión empresarial del fútbol. La obra puede ser atractiva tanto para los aficionados al balón como para los que estén más interesados en la gestión y dirección de grandes empresas. Abstenerse afectados por el cierre de Spanair.

Lo que más rescato de este libro es una visión empresarial del mundo del fútbol. Nos lleva a las entrañas corporativas y financieras que dieron la base a un equipo de época en los años 2000.

El énfasis en cómo estructurar un equipo ganador nos da la oportunidad de aprender de este caso y que desde el deporte siempre podremos encontrar una analogía, una visión enriquecedora que podremos adaptar hacia cada uno de los sectores en que estamos laborando.

Appropriate introduction into business aspects of football world based on the examples from Soriano's career as VP of Barcelona.

What I'll remember for sure is that he kept his word. In one of the chapters Soriano mentioned that football holding groups may be a thing in the future (e.g. RB or CFG) and he was right. He even built one.

Varios años me costó conseguir este libro en físico, pero valió la pena la espera. Una gran historia que conecta experiencias y analogías del fútbol pero con suma relevancia en la vida, la gestión empresarial y personal. Es un libro práctico, casi que de consulta. Me encantó, lástima que hoy el Barcelona está lejos de lo que se describe en este libro.

This is for those who want to combine the two worlds - Sports and Management. The primary focus is on Barcelona FC and Football but for sports enthusiasts, this would serve much better than management lessons from schools or self help books.

İlk 70 sayfa pazarlama markayı geliştirme vs. gibi konularda iyi bilgiler olamasına rağmen ben alıcısı değildim. (Unicef anlaşması vs.) Ama 70'ten sonra takım içi bilgiler de geldi, baya bi şey var. Niye Rijkaard veya Pep seçildi vs gibi...

Very interesting book! Shares the "secrets" of football management on the view of one of the most successfull executives of the sport! Discovering why Barcelona sold Ronaldinho and how the club conducted the process who led for Guardiola hiring were good surprises from the book.

Livro excelente!
Embora fale sobre futebol (mostrando como o time do Barcelona saiu do 13º para o 2º faturamento do mundo com resultados esportivos fantásticos!) o livro é voltado para a gestão em geral. É um manual prático para diversas situações empresariais. Quem se interessa por futebol vai amar e quem não se interessa vai passar a olhar para o futebol com outros olhos! Recomendo!
