Seeking a fresh start outside of his outlaw father’s shadow, Charlie Montgomery finds Silver City, Idaho Territory to be the perfect boom town for his adventurous soul. But when gold is discovered at the Crown Point silver mine where he is hired on, the gunslingers of his past reappear, putting Charlie and everything he holds dear in danger. She could never marry a miner, Virginia was sure, not after her father was killed in a mining accident last year. Yet something about Charlie draws her like a bear to honey, and despite pressure from another suitor, she takes a chance on him. With her father's debts to pay, Virginia desperately engages in an unsavory one-time deal, realizing too late she can't outrun the consequences forever. Can Charlie be the steadfast companion and she so desperately seeks? A sweet historical romance with a punch of western adventure!
Reading has always been a passion of mine. I always wanted to become an author but it was a "someday" sort of goal. In 2017, I decided to make my dream a reality and began my first book. While I enjoy nearly all fiction, historical novels particularly fascinate me.
My family and I live in Southern Utah, USA. I grew up on horseback and treasured any time I could spend riding through the red sands and sagebrush. My husband Randon and I have four children - including a set of twins. Nothing makes me happier than being a wife and mother.... but reading is a very close second!
Unfortunately, a father's sins are often reflected onto a child, and in this case, Charlie is trying to get out from under his outlaw father's shadow of the life of crime. He moves to a new town, hoping for a new start, but his father's shadow follows him.
Charlie is such a fun character, with his winsome personality and persistence. He's willing to take risks and do what needs to be done to protect those he cares about, especially Virginia. My favorite lessons from this story are that everyone should be allowed to make a name for himself and that true love can conquer all.
In a perilous adventure, this story has gunslingers, danger, and romance seeping out of the woodwork, and it's all very enjoyable. I love this wild west time period of history and thought this story did well to capture the highlights.
Content: mild romance; mild violence/danger
*I received a complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own and were voluntarily given.*
What an adventurous tale of family, fortune, greed, and new beginnings. The story is the second in the Heart of a Miner series and was a page-turner. I liked the characters and their interaction. The two main characters, Charlie Montgomery and Virginia Baycroft will have a rocky beginning, but there is a chemistry between them. Charlie is adventurous and when it comes to business, does well. Virginia is working as a nurse with Dr. Henderson, and trying her best to pay off debts left from her father’s death.
The story is full of mystery, suspense, danger, adventure, and mishaps. Charlie and Virginia’s relationship is tumultuous in the beginning, cautious in the middle and by the end, unstoppable. When Charlie and several other men are trapped in a mining accident at the Crown Point, the life and death struggles and efforts of others work together during the rescue. Not everyone will survive. Virginia will also be in danger and fight for her life.
While this story could be read as a stand-alone, it does have many key characters from the first book, Silver, that lead up to some of the issues in the second book, Gold. The story will take on a life and death situation that shows how far a woman is willing to go for the man she loves. The story is a clean historical western, including action, and adventure, that ends on a happily ever after.
I am a huge lover of historical romance, but my typical go-to read is more along the lines of Regency or medieval. Lately, I have been trying out a few Western romances, and I am finding that I am enjoying these as well as the other two. There's usually some crazy melodrama and wild incidents, like things with railroads or mines, that you only see in westerns. This book is an excellent example of why I am testing the waters of western romance. This story was just plain fun, with all of the hijinks that one expects from a western. Plus the hero and the heroine were complex characters who first mixed like oil and water. I so enjoyed their first bantering and interactions while Charlie was recuperating after his treacherous flume ride. Charlie, the hero, is definitely a daredevil—what we'd call an adrenaline junkie today—but he has a big heart and truly cares for people whom he cares for. Virginia, the heroine, is at times a no-nonsense lady. She has to be, as she is working a couple of jobs, including helping the local doctor as a nurse, to pay off her father's debts. The book has a surprising harrowing incident that actually keeps you on edge to see how it's going to turn out. All in all, this was a fantastically well-done western romance with engaging characters and a well-paced plot.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Gold starts off with a bang and never lets up. I purchased the book immediately after reading Silver because I fell in love with all the characters and wanted to see where they’d go next. Charlie is an adrenaline junkie because of trying to prove himself. Desperate times call for desperate measures, and Virginia almost ends up dead as a result. Both characters are mired in their pasts which try to suck them down into oblivion. The book shows how difficult it can be to shed one’s past no matter how honorable the intentions. There are consequences. BUT GOD. I love how the author weaves in spiritual themes that show how God can overcome and help His people overcome even the worst of situations. I was rooting for both Virginia and Charlie throughout the whole story. There were several unexpected twists that added even more excitement to the plot. I loved the ending – a perfect HEA. Highly recommended.
This is an exciting, and adventurous story with love and loss. It is written by Krystal M Anderson and she has done an exceptional job with the plot and the characters, both new and recurring. Charlie is Clara’s mischievous and thrill seeking brother. Virginia is the oldest daughter of a widowed mother. Her deceased father has left her family with heavy debt that she is trying to repay by working for the town doctor. You will enjoy discovering how Vharlie and Ginny find their happily ever after.

Will be get away from his father?.See how it goes
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Charlie is a restless man and an adrenaline junky. He gets injured riding a flume. That’s how he met Virginia. But her life was difficult. Her father had left many debts when he died. Her mother, sister and she were working hard to pay them off. Charlie seemed like a carefree man, but his life was complicated also. His father is a thief and murder. This creates many problems for the couple. It is an interesting story.
Can a new town give him a fresh start? This story is full of mystery, suspense, danger, and adventure for Charlie and Virginia. I love historical western and this one is also clean such a lovely read. This is a story of how a child has a need to get out from under a parent shadow. It was an entertaining read. I did receive a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
A sweet clean story showing how love can help conquer trials in life. Virginia and Charlie both have difficult lives made harder by Charlie’s outlaw father. They find a connection to each other from the moment they meet and a fulfilling relationship develops. The story ended too abruptly for me but I guess the story will carry on in book three.
This young lady has most of what it takes to be an excellent writer. If she can overcome her penchant to display excessive erudition by using obscure and sometimes incorrect words when simpler words will suffice her books will have greater appeal.
Great characters in this story, which started fast-paced and kept going. I enjoyed the well-written scenes, especially the mine cave-in. This sweet romance was a delight to t.
Anderson has crafted a riveting masterpiece. I was immediately immersed into the drama. The suspense kept me turning the pages. I read this novella in one sitting.
Recommend to readers who enjoy historical fiction.
I borrowed a copy from Kindle Unlimited. I've expressed my honest opinion.
The story line is great but the author uses such obscure words they are not even in the dictionary and many of her references are so uncommon they leave the reader guessing what they even mean.
He constantly looks for adventure. And gets himself into some real escapades but a beautiful blonde woman becomes the true treasure he seeks a rousing tale.
