New York Times bestselling Queen of erotica delivers a novel about two couples whose lives intersect in surprising ways after one of the men saves both women from a car crash at the hands of an intoxicated driver.
Waitress Brooke Alexander is in love with one of Washington, D.C.’s most prominent attorneys, who seems to be a dream come true. In reality, he’s only dreamy when he wants to be. On his good days, Patrick is a kind and sensual man. But on his bad days, he’s a complete nightmare.
Compassionate and honest, Damon Johnson worships the ground his wife, Carleigh, walks on. But Carleigh treats Damon like a trophy husband and treats his life aspirations like a joke. Her selfish nature makes Damon wonder if he made the right decision when he asked for her hand in marriage.
A tragic event forces Brooke and Damon to become a part of each other’s lives. Through the darkest of times, they find the courage, strength and perseverance to rid themselves of the toxic elements corrupting their emotional well-being. They discover the true meaning of unconditional love when, together, they experience a total eclipse of the heart.

This book was predictable from chapter 2. We knew a relationship between Brooke and Damon was inevitable, so basically we are reading to see how it plays out.
What I love about this story is unlike Zane's numerous other novels, this one is more a love story than an erotica. I like how she mentions the disabled and gave them an ability to find love. I believe this book can serve as a crossover from erotica to romance. Majority of the time when an author tries to branch out from their regular style of writing it turns out confusing but this one worked out for Zane.
I am looking forward to reading more books by her in this genre.
Why oh why do I keep reading Zane books. First of all the characters are so one dimensional and vapid the story itself is thin at best and why at the end of the book does Zane feel it necessary to mention that Damon and Brooke are a interracial couple and then in the last three pages make it an issue. I don't get it, it's as if she came up with idea at the last minute. Also Damon is supposed to be this incredible man "the last good man" but really he just comes off like a douche. Damon's wife makes no sense, does she love doesn't she love him and how doesn't she see her friends coming on to him and who sits around bragging about sex with their husband all the time...I just don't get it. Has Zane ever heard of a outline or character research.
I will admit, based on Zane's former books and the recommendations of the delightful ladies at my local library, I read this book with the expectation that it would be full of sensual sex. But, this was more than that (with a lot less sex than I expected - and that's a good thing).
This book had me explore a few hard issues. How to you react to a partner that constantly gets asked by your trifling friends for a turn in bed? How do you react when your partner is suddenly disabled - while protecting you? When is emotional attachment with a person outside your relationship "okay"? Is there power and control in love? Where does the line of being an individual in a relationship, making choices affecting one's reproductive health, turn into "we decide" instead of "I decide"? Is it really ever okay to leave someone for someone else? What are our assumptions, as readers, on the race of the characters in a book?
As this is my first Zane book, I can say that I'm interested in reading other books by her. The book isn't about sex. It's about relationships, friendships, deep soulful caring and the essence of being human vs. the trappings of "perfection" (body, status, social economics, etc).
I'm not sure what I should have expected, but this wasn't quite it. The story was too predictable, unlikeable characters and they were too sappy. The main characters were both flawed and set up to look like victims, but it just came across as sad.
We were suppose to believe that Brooke was in a verbally abusive relationship because of her weight, low self-esteem and insecurity in her job as a waitress. But she left her boyfriend and told him and his parents off too many times for this to be believable. Then she starts a relationship with this guy Damon who likes to remind you he is the "last good man", but yet emotional cheats on his wife. He came off as major wimp.
But what really did it for me was that Brooke had this major problem with swallowing her boyfriend's cum, but one night with Damon and she got over this major problem she dwelled on throughout the whole entire book and sd some corny line like "you could tell that Damon ate a healthy diet" wtf.
The "good good" was not even detailed, i've read racier harlequin novels that you can find @ any grocery store.
Haven't read a Zane novel in almost 8yrs. I won't be picking up another anytime soon.

I hadn't read any of Zane's books. However, after watching (and liking) her series on Cinemax, "Zane's Sex Chronicles," I decided to give her books a try. First I listened to "The Hot Box" (great), and then I decided to try "Total Eclipse..."
"Total Eclipse..." was fabulous. I think those who choose Zane's books strictly for the erotic content may be somewhat disappointed. However, those who love a good story will find this an excellent choice. The story captured me from the very first syllable, unfolded nicely, and then culminated into a surprise ending. Totally awesome!
I have to say I put this book and on nook, and I was just checking to make sure it was working read the first couple of words, and did not put down my nook until the book was done. Great storytelling by Zane here, the writing is so enjoyable, the story so effortlessly realistic, the characters so incredibly lovely, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I don’t even remember reading the blurb on this one, I was recommended this author by a challenge, and though I did not use the book in the challenge, I still got it, and I am so happy that I did. I think that there is something special about an author who can have two people fall in love in such dire circumstances. Two people who were both in other relationships – one which appeared to be perfect, and one which was everything but perfect. But with the two main characters, and the entire supporting cast, I found this group of people who came together by chance, but they all helped tell this story of love that came at the most unlikely moment, but an all consuming love much like an eclipse.
Brooke Alexander has been in a relationship with Patrick Stewart for the past 2 years, and over the last 5 months has come to several realizations. Firstly she’s not happy in this relationship. Secondly, she hates swallowing (she always knew that it has been reaffirmed) and thirdly Patrick doesn’t care about any of those things. But Brooke stays in the relationship because from what she can see she won’t be better off on her own anyways. Brook is a waitress, Patrick a big time lawyer with old money, and the meanest parents in the history of parents. At first I thought that entire relationship was little far fetched, but the more I got into the story, I came to realize that Patrick didn’t mind Brooke working a menial job, because he figured once they got married it would be easier for him to talk her into staying at home. Brooke on the other hand, had other ideas in mind for her life. She wanted to have a career, and be able support herself, but everything around her just would not line up. Until the moment where her entire life changes because she was saved from possible death, but definitely bad injuries by a good guy, a good, handsome, married guy.
Damon Johnson thought he had everything he could ever want with his wife of four years, good job at a prestigious accounting firm, dream home, and everything in between. He and Carleigh were the only married couple among their friends, but they were the happy ones. Sure he felt that she sometimes treated him more like a trophy than a partner, and sure she doesn’t really like that he spends his free time developing an online dating site called LastGoodMen.com, but hey, just cause your married to someone doesn’t mean that they have to agree with everything that you do. But he loves Carleigh more than anything, and that’s what matters most to him. Then one day, after only recently reconciling from a major fight about trust, everything changes when Damon saves the lives of both his wife, and stranger, and ends up seriously injured from the accident.
I loved the slow build of the relationship between Brooke and Damon, and also the way in which they both struggled with their feelings for each other. It was clear that there was something between them, and that they were made for each other even though they were with other people. I also liked that they both knew that they had made commitments, and those should come before their own selfish feelings. Zane has written the kind of story that has you questioning what you think is right and wrong in a relationship, and honestly, by the end I really wasn’t sure how I felt but I knew that sometimes our entire lives can be defined by a single moment in time. I highly recommend this book, it is such a good book, with such a beautiful story.
I read this book years ago when it first came out and I really loved it. I recently read it again and my God did it not age well. The dialogue is super cringe, the annoying "twist" at the end was never hinted at throughout the whole book and was obviously tacked on last minute. The character damon constantly refers to himself as one of the last good men and it's embarrassing, who the hell talks like that? Plus he starts having an emotional affair with Brooke at one point but we're not suppose to hate him for it because his wife is a bitch and she deserves it? Bullshit.
The women were super sad, and brookes friend destiny being a okay with her man cheating because "he may step out but at least he comes home to me. It's what men do, deal with it", was so damn pathetic. And the character of patrick fucking rapes Brooke at one point but it's not treated as a rape and it's quickly glossed over. That being said, Brooke was annoying and frigid when it came to sex with patrick. Yeah he was a horny dick, but the sexual things he wanted to do weren't that damn nasty, and yet Brooke would act like he's this disgusting sinner just because he likes to taste his own essence. She came off as so childish, it's fine if you don't wanna do that stuff but bitch relax.
I couldn't understand what damon saw in his wife and why he seemed to love her so much. He kept going on about how he would die for her and he worships her but why? She was an unsupportive bitch throughout the entire book, so what was there to love? We were introduced to her making sexually degrading comments about her husband to her friends, and it was all downhill from there. I guess the author wanted us to immediately hate her so we can root for Brooke and damon to get together but that's just bad writing. If a character, who is supposedly one of the last good men 🙄, is so madly in love with their spouse I'm gonna need to see why they love them so much. Otherwise I'm just gonna assume he only loved her looks and body because the only time anything truly positive was said about carleigh, it was in reference to sex.
I also don't buy that a woman would forgive her friends and keep them around her man after finding out that they've made countless passes at him. Also the way jordan was written was hilariously juvenile. I couldn't believe a seasoned author wrote a character like that, she read like something from a shitty wattpad story.
While reading this book, there were countless moments where I kept wondering who the hell talks like that? The characters would say things that I can't imagine anyone saying. Add on the twist at the end, and you're wondering which ones the black one and which ones the white one because neither group really communicates this way. It just further proved my point that the twist was added last minute. Plus it's in the epilogue, which makes it easier to believe.
To sum shit up, this book is dated and piss poor. Dialogue is real embarrassing to read. Kiss my monkey? Really bitch? Stop calling your vag your monkey, see what I mean about juvenile? The twist was clearly added in at the very last minute because there were no hints throughout the book. These people don't read like black or white people, they read like caricatures. Also there were times while reading this that I wondered if a white man who has never met black people before wrote it before I remember this is the work of zane, a black woman. Yes it was that bad.
This book was amazingly great! It was definitely different from what Zane usually writes and that's okay. I felt that Patrick was an asshole for sure. The way he treated Brooke was just wrong. Constantly putting her down and verbally abusing her every chance he gets. Then allowing his parents to constantly ridicule her as well all the time. But Brooke was too blind to see that he was playing her all along, and she always ran back to him to end up just getting hurt again. As for Carleigh and Damon, Carleigh was an idiot to not realize what a great man Damon was. Damon was the epitome of what a great man should always be. He worked hard everyday of his life. He loved Carleigh unconditionally. He treated her great and respected her even when her friends were always pushing up on him. I don't think any man would have turned down sexual mad him feel like crap advances from a woman..well a real man at least. I hated how she treated him after he lost his arm in the accident. She made him feel uncomfortable in his own skin. But in the end I am glad that him and Brooke got to stay together. They deserved each other. Life dealt them a bad hand.Ans sure they came together on bad circumstances but I believe if they stood with their original partners they would forever be unhappy.

Good Book. I had to keep checking it and making sure it was a Zane book. It is not like Zane's other books which were highly sexed. I have to admit I was thrown a curve ball at the end. I actually went back through the book to see if there were any clues about this ending. Nope none. The ending alone makes for excellent book club discussions.
When I first read this book over 10 years, I think I was more focused on the sexual aspect because I was young. Now, that I'm older and have reread it, my perspective has changed a lot. For the life of me, I could not understand why Brooke would stay with Patrick. I could understand if he was paying for her school or even for her to start a business but no. All she was getting was you know what with a side of verbal abuse, cheating, and disrespect all around. Damon, the self proclaimed last good man, was having a whole emotional relationship while lying to his wife. What him and Brooke experienced together was tragic. Their friendship should have been bonded in that and innocent enough to share with others. But because they both knew it was wrong and crossing the line, it was a secret. I don't know what Carleigh's problem was but Damon never once asked why she didn't want children. That could be something she was struggling with but he was too busy trying to find a way to Brooke that he jumped at the opportunity. And how do you propose to one woman when you are still married to another woman?? A man that cheats physically is one thing but a man that cheats emotionally is a whole other ballpark. Each one of these characters were trash in their own right. Just horrible people!

Wow. Talk about a page turner! Brooke, who is in a relationship with a lawyer is having self esteem troubles. Damon who is married is having trust issues in his marriage. In an unfortunate accident they cross paths in a major way. They help each other with the after effects of the event in a complicated way. This novel touched on disability, support, idealism and what unconditional love truly means.
I think Zane did a great job with this novel. It was a a departure from her previous works that had sex leaping from every page. I enjoyed that she focused more on the relationships of the characters.
Love the song- this book, not so much. Poor plot and character depth. Listed as erotic fiction, but less erotic than most romance novels, except that the writer seem to to want to make a record on the most times the words pussy and dick could be used in a novel. A big waste of time.
When I read a book by Zane I expect to read x-rated sex senes. However it was not that kind of a book. I enjoyed this book. No one should have to lower there expectations of what they want in a relationship. And no you don’t have to do certain things just to keep a mate. Especially if you’re not comfortable doing it. Beautiful ending! Very well done.
Write a review...What happens when you find your soulmate, but you are already in a serious relationship, or even married? That very question is tackled in Total Eclipse of the Heart: A Novel with Damon and Brooke.
Brooke is an overweight and insecure waitress dating hot shot lawyer Patrick Sterling. Having put up with his verbal abuse for some time, her self esteem has suffered greatly, so greatly that she can't bring herself to leave him alone for good. His parents never approved of her, and his mother makes snide remarks about her appearance, job, and even her parents every chance she gets. Although unhappy, Brooke is determined to not break up over his pretentious parents and deals with Patrick's antics and his forceful attitude in and out of the bedroom because she loves him.
Damon and Carleigh seem to have the perfect marriage. Well besides the fact the Carleigh is completely shallow and views Damon as a "trophy husband". She constantly shows him off like a piece of meat, loves when other women lust after him, and actually enjoys when her friends disrespectfully speak brazenly about wanting to sleep with him. It is obvious that she looks at him as just a sexy piece of meat when she talks down to him about his having nine to five job, and actually laughs in his face about his entrepreneurial dreams, telling him they are stupid, and a waste of time. Damon adores Carleigh and takes his wedding vows more seriously than most. He refuses to cheat, even though women throw themselves at him, and he is determined to stay with his wife for richer or poorer, and in sickness and health. It becomes painfully apparent that Carleigh never believed in those same vows when Damon is disfigured while saving her life. Her lies soon become exposed and Damon starts to wonder himself if his marriage will make it.
The horrific accident that disfigures Damon causes him and Brooke to cross paths. He inadvertently saves her life while saving his wife, and Brooke is so genuinely grateful that she calls to thank him. They automatically have an unexplainable bond and value each other's friendships greatly. Over time Damon notices that Brooke is everything his wife is lacking and vise versa. She believes in him and builds him up rather than tearing him down, she listens to him, and is not fazed by him now being disabled. He encourages her to be more than an unhappy waitress, helps her begin school, and believes she is perfectly beautiful exactly the way she is. Their platonic friendship eventually turns into an accidental emotional affair which they both believe is wrong, and refuse to cross anymore lines but this story isn't over yet.
I'd say this novel is more on Zane's mild side, which was actually refreshing. This novel flowed easily for the first two thirds but eventually it felt dragged out and long winded. Although I could not put this book down, I will say, at times it became tiresome to read. I loved the cutting-edge plot and the characters but was definitely put off and a bit bothered that we readers we not able to visualize these characters at any point. I noticed this right away and kept looking forward to knowing what these great characters looked like. Unfortunately the closest thing we got is Damon's height and weight and words like words like "overweight", "beautiful", and "sexy" sprinkled about. The surprise ending left a lasting impression on me. The juicy twist that Zane leaves us with is totally unexpected, a bit unfair, and should be completely irrelevant. The fact that this information was cleverly kept from the readers seems to cause more of an issue then the secret itself. Personally I feel it wouldn't have taken anything from her work had the twist been clear the entire time, but with feelings of betrayal, maybe just maybe, shocking us with it on the last page does take something away. Go grab a copy of this book and find out for yourself exactly what I am referring to, it's worth it.
Brooke Alexander is a waitress in love with a prominent attorney Patrick Sterling. Although Patrick is a passionate lover, he quickly becomes a controlling and verbally abusive demon during their aggressive sexual encounters. To add to Brooke's stress, she also has to endure even more belittling comments from Patrick's parents. Brooke dreads attending family or social events at the Sterling's household; as she knows she will become the spotlight entertainment. Mrs. Sterling is so hell bent on ruining her son's relationship with Brooke, that she even goes as far as to offer her severance pay to leave immediately. Not only does Brooke have to put up with Patrick's insults, she has to put up with Mrs. Sterling's claims that her son has other women besides her. Brooke's suspicions and Mrs. Sterling's claims are soon confirmed after Brooke follows Patrick to the other woman's house, and catches him red-handed in the act. Although very hurt and betrayed, Brooke stayed in her relationship because it was all she has known.
Damon and Carleigh Johnson appear to be the perfect couple, but looks can be deceiving. Damon adores his wife, but Carleigh put on a show and views him only as a trophy husband. Damon works as a Human Resources Manager, but has other aspirations in beginning his own business. However, Carleigh isn't as supportive of his dreams as he would like for his wife to be. Not only is Damon flaunted as a trophy piece, his endeavors are constantly insulted as he shares them. Damon remains determined to remain committed to his wife and achieve his goals.
One tragic night, Damon and Brooke are brought together after saving her life and suffering a permanent disability. A disability that forms an undeniable bond between the two. In Damon's case, his wife becomes distant after he becomes disabled. In Brooke's case, her relationship continues to it's abusive spiral downhill. As each of their relationships fall apart, Brooke's and Damon's grows stronger. They knew they were playing with fire, but it felt so right. It was destiny.
Readers will enjoy this erotic tale of forbidden love. The story was well written and creatively delivered. Although the storyline is predictable, I was pleased to see Zane include the realistic life of disabled individuals. Overall, I give this novel 4 stars.
This was…not good. Not to put Zane in a box, but if this is her crossover album, she lost me. I picked it up on the strength of my love for Zane alone. That being said, let’s unpack this.
We have DAMON(I’ll be emphasizing things, bear with me) who does not hesitate to remind you that he is a good man/model husband. He starts a ridiculous website which, after finishing the book, seems to be an attempt to lay a foundation of experience before he creates another dating website. He comes off as self centered and ridiculous. You won’t leave your wife for openly making fun of your disability or clearly messing with another man but the final straw was you finding out she’s on birth control yet again??! The way he was so offended by his wife not wanting to be pregnant, for whatever her reasoning was, came off as weird and entitled. Then he did a heroic thing—which I’m not sure was a purely good deed— and adds that to the list of why he’s so wonderful.
Then we have Brooke. Her unrealistic relationship with her unrealistic friend. He’s verbally abusive, cheats and doesn’t seem to be willing to put money in her hands sooooo why is she staying again? Then she has this strong opposition to very vanilla with sprinkles(aka not too far out of the ordinary) sexual acts but. Yet. She. Stays. And goes back. Why doesn’t she tell him to kiss her MONKEY??(also this phrase felt like fetch, Zane tried and failed to make this a thing. It just won’t happen). Her friend Destiny goes from telling her all men cheat to advocating her getting with a married man.
This whole book from the characters to the plot felt ridiculous AND THEN Zane says one of them are Caucasian and spends part of the last like 3 pages making their apparent interracial relationship a thing and I have never been more confused in my life.
This wasn’t it.

I honestly ADORE this book. Even though i am 15 I didn't know it would include that much sex talk, because this was the first book of his I started reading. So here it is: Brooke is a waitress at a diner, and she has very low esteem about er self, due to her verbally abusive boyfriend, Patrick, whose parents hate her gut. Then there's Damon, a loving and faithful boyfriend who asked his wife, Carleigh, to marry him, not knowing she was laying and cheating dog. Everything changes for the best when someone at a concert hit Brooke, and Damon saves her, but he had to get his arm amputated. Brooke realizes who saved her life, and starts a friendship with Damon, after a time at lunch. They soon realize that they have feeling for each other, and Damon breaks off the "friendship". But Damon didn't know that he broke off with the wrong woman, because his wife, Carleigh, of four years, deceived him by taking birth control pills, while knowing that Damon wanted kids. She also cheated on him with some man named Arnold. Damon finds out and soon realizes that he loves Brooke, and wanted her forever. He files for the divorce, and Damon and Brooke set off in the sunset. Two years later, Brooke is a pharmacy tech, they have two twin boys, and is building there new home. The only question I have for the author is " is Damon and Patrick White?"
I like this book a lot. Brooke dealing with a relationship with Patrick who isn't on her level he is a lawyer and rise with great money and his mom looking for him to settle down with more cause Brooke is a waiter at a diner but, she works for hers and don't aske Patrick fo anything. Patrick puts Brooke down ever chance he gets they relationship leads to them braking up and Brooke running back to him.
Damon a man that is married to Carleigh that talks about everything he accomplished like it aint crap to her. She don't support him in his career. Her friends hits on Damon ever chance they get but, Damon stands his ground and keeps it real with Carleigh.
One horrible accident brings Damon and Brooke together to the point they get way to close and start catching way to much feelings for each other.
I liked the book Zane has her readers wondering who is white or black and still don't get no answers but, overall a great love story and I liked it.
This book by Zane, was a awesome love story. I liked this book because it was done the right way. The main characters perspective was clear and you understood the type of individuals they were. I was not disgruntled the whole novel because I understood the love of these two indiviuals. As I am a hopeless romantic this book brought a sense of relief and joy that there are people in this world that are just caught up but not comfortable with the idea of just accepting a situation. After Damon lost his arm, it was a drastic change that his wife had to endure but it didn't change his character. He was still the same man, but with so much ambition that losing his arm was only a hurdle and he jumped it through it so well. He took the time to help others and make the best out of his disabliity. This made him a very admirable kind of man. Can you tell, I love his character? lol
Overall, it was a good book. Not as racey as other Zane reads but enjoyable if you have an open mind.
I have always been a HUGE fan of Zane, so when I discovered a book I hadn’t read I was super excited. How, you may ask, did this book receive 3 stars? Well, it was because it became predictable. I guessed the end of the book by the second half, and while reading was hoping and praying I was wrong, I was not. However; the book was not all bad. It reminded me of The Afterburn by Zane, more romance and gems of wisdom than raunchy sex stories (not that there’s a problem with those 😉).
Total Eclipse of the Heart focuses on the love lives of two separate couples. Brooke and her long term boyfriend Patrick, whose parents are not huge fans of the relationship. And Damon and his wife Carliegh who treats Damon like more of a trophy than a husband. A tragedy strikes the forces the couples lives to collide. Will they survive this collision or will their lives forever be changed?
Very good book. I didn't want to put it down. It's a book about how two people's lives intersected and how they eventually fell in love etc. It is told from each of their lives. Brooke and Damon. While I can't tell you the detail without spoiling it, I loved the end because throughout the book I made an assumption but at the end I was amazed at the revelation because of my assumption. I listened to this book and I think I assumed the way I did because of the voice of the reader. And even still at the end you still don't know which is which, which is what I believe the authors' intention was!!!
The storyline was interesting enough that I wanted to keep reading just to see if Brooke and Damon end up together. There was an unexpected detail at the end that caused me to read the note to readers that Zane wrote and look back through the book to see if I could see any clues. The detail was also unnecessary. It seemed like a last ditch effort to make the book have some deeper meaning. When I finished, I didn't have the feeling of "That was good! Let me run and tell my friends." It was more like, "Well, I'm done. What's next?"
I've read quite a few of Zane's books and "Afterburn" has always been my favourite...until now. Total Eclipse of the Heart was a GREAT read! She explores quite a few issues in this book and there are twists in the story that I didn't see coming at all. Parts of the story tend to drag, but I still gave the book 5 stars because she ventured off the beaten path with the storyline. She incorporated the erotic scenes that she's famous for, but adds depth, substance and realism to the plot. Damon and Brooke were a pleasure to read about and the story really made me think. Zane's best book, IMO.
I just re-read this book after having it for almost a year and I have to say I really love it. This is so different from the other books that I have read from Zane. The theme of true love was just so prevalent throughout this book. The turn of events that happens in Damon's life is just so unexpected, but is really what makes this book stand out from the rest. Damon was so instrumental in helping Brooke realize her full potential. This is the type of character all men should posses. Well done Zane!
Not the typical Zane novel. This was more emotion driven and less sex. It was also sad with the main character losing his arm and all. I got tired of him constantly stating how he was one of the last good men. If your really a good man you don't need to advertise it all the time. People will know by the way you carry yourself. I was surprised at the end. It was such a small detail and reading the book I never noticed how Zane didn't really state the race of the characters. Not a great read but a good read.
Turns out, this isn-t really my kind of book, but certainly an eye opener to this type of fiction. it was a weird mix of churchy-goody-goody-fairy-tale (prince in shining armor, true love, etc.), and some obligatory slightly edgy raunchy sex scenes. Truth be told I liked the note to the readers at the end, it helped me understand a bit about the author's understanding of the audience. Also, this author tackles disability, and different ways that people move beyond it, (or don't.)
