I got this for my friend and she loved it. she is obsessed with murder and this was a great read for her. my mom was slightly concerned when I came home with it so i was locked in my room while she called a theropist. Long story short we both loved the book and im not in a psychward.
My book is Terrorism: Opposing Viewpoints by Laura K. Egendorf. It is organized by four chapters that are questions about terrorism and each question has multiple responses by different authors to that question. This book does focus on an issue that is important in today’s society because terrorism is changing from how it was in the past. Today a terrorist could use chemical weapons or attack via the cyber world. I found this book because my love for the military drive me to think about how terrorist could harm our troops and civilians.
The four questions are; Is Terrorism a Serious Threat, What Motivates Terrorists, Can Terrorism Be Justified, and How Should the United States Respond to Terrorism? Each question how multiple excerpts. Some are interviews with that person.
My favorite excerpt was, Terrorism Is a Serious Threat by Bruce Hoffman. This is my favorite excerpt because Hoffman explains that even though terrorist incidents world wide declined in the 1990’s, but deaths from the incidents had risen. At least 29% of the incidents had at least one person killed.
In my personal opinion, this book does have a lot of facts about terrorism and how the terrorist are changing or not. If you would like to know more about the viewpoints on terrorism, this book would be right for you.
As if I didn't learn my lesson, for I again and, for last time, have chosen yet another book filled with depression, anger and violence. The difference being this being based all on fact, and also being more than a cut and dry read. For this it is with a more than generous mindset that receives two stars. This is only on account that is was chalk full of information and dates on when and where terrorism has struck. This book hardly makes you feel or even think, much unlike what the title gives the illusion of a hot topic with controversial stand points. When in reality the reader finds them regretful for they have wasted time learning an outdated fact that could be googled with thousands of better more relevant sources. While yes this does have many people speaking there mind it has a dull and unanimous feel that terrorism is bad must be stopped. The rationale is that terrorism is awful and evil way of explaining your thoughts and anger towards something. I would never recommend this book to someone for literally reason but yeah you need a source for a book on terrorism as I did here you go. Anything beyond that would be cruel. Overall it was an awful book, with little help towards the main cause, and if I never read or hear of it again it will be to soon.
A very interesting book full of articles. Lots about reactions to September 11. I found it more entertaining than the fantasy book I was trying to consume. =)
