USA Today Bestselling Author Kessily Lewel, and her darker side Sadie Marks, are two halves of the same author. All of her work falls under the category of power-exchange romance. Kessily’s books tend more towards sexy romance with a side of domestic discipline, while Sadie has been sticking to sci-fi, with her race of Dominant aliens who are looking for a few good humans to call their own.

She has been in love with fantasy, sci-fi and horror since she was a child. She grew up reading Stephen King, Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and others, so it was only natural that one day she’d write her own worlds—though hers do seem to have a lot more sex and BDSM in them.

JUST KEEP MY FEET ON THE GROUND, OKAY?

The story is the second in a series and will revolve around two main characters, Charlotte “Charlie” McGee and Sam Mason. Sam has convinced Charlie to move into the foreman smaller house while having renovations done on the main house—but a big glitch will happen, and this story will revolve around Vicky.

Vicky Townsend will show up at the big house and throw Charlie for a loop. She is the most manipulate woman, able to cry on demand, throw out things for a guilt trip and play up to Charlie to get what she wants. Charlie is so starved for her mother's attention that she missed that she is entirely susceptible to everything Vicky dishes out.

Sam and Charlie were doing well, making plans, for the ranch and the future—but with the presence of Vicky, Charlie is changing—and it isn’t for good. Now she has become neglectful, missing her shifts, not home at night with dinner, and he will have to put his foot down and set rules.

The story’s plot will be a standoff between Vicky and Sam, and Charlie is caught in the middle. Sam does his best not to make accusations against Vicky, but Vicky doesn’t hold back her negativity against Sam. Charlie is the preverbal rope that is being tugged—and rather than giving her insight, she becomes more confused. Why would her mother show up now that her father has passed away? Why did her mother leave and never contact Charlie? Why can’t Sam understand she wants to get to know the mother she missed out on?

The Daddy Dom/little girl relationship between Sam and Charlie was her suggestion, but for them, it works. She needs his control, dominance, and discipline—he is structure for her, and in her crumbling world, that is important. When it comes to obeying, sometimes Charlie drags things out—like when Sam gives her a deadline for unpacking her things. He knows she needs him to follow through; if he provides a deadline and she doesn’t comply, she needs to be punished. It is what gives them peace and stability in their relationship, at work, and especially at home.

“It was always followed by a moment of clarity. She knew exactly why she wanted, needed, this life. It wasn’t because she couldn’t manage herself like any adult. It wasn’t because she was too immature to get things done. It was because submitting to him unlocked things deep inside her and set them free.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the ugly of people. It will bring strife into Sam and Charlie’s relationship because she is so involved with Vicky, who controls her, that neither is happy. Sam tries to allow Charlie time with her mother, but things blow up with shocking phone calls, her not showing up for her appointed schedule, and excuses. They have been warnings from those who knew Vicky when her father was alive, and Sam is trying to keep her protected—but her mother is manipulative and interfering in their relationship. But, the truth will come to light, just not before damage has taken place. What becomes of the relationship between Vicky and Charlie—will change as the harsh reality is revealed. Sometimes, growing up means accepting the truth, even if it destroys the ‘fairytale fantasy’ that Charlie wanted to believe. The only thing real is that Sam loves her, wants to protect her, and understands that he has to allow her to make her own decisions—and when she gets hurt, he will pick up the pieces and help her through it.

“They didn’t need any words. The love that was reflected in each other’s eyes said it all and left no room for doubts. Everything was going to be okay. She was his. He was hers. Together they would work through all the problems and their relationship would be stronger for it.”

I could barely finish this book. Once again, the guy, Sam, holds all the cards. Charley is always playing catch-up. I didn’t read the first book and now have no interest in doing so.
All I kept thinking about was Charley telling Sam to shove it and that she was taking back her power and control. I would have packed my bags, walked out, taken a world trip with the money her dad left her and put her long-absent mother on notice not to come back.
Even after hearing the phone conversation between her mother and whoever she is scheming with, Charley still can’t kick her to the curb! Really? How stupid are you?
Charley goes in search of Sam and all he’s thinking about is how he plans to punish her, once again, with another spanking.
I was so turned off when Sam spanks Charley in the shower with a wooden spoon, just to make sure to inflict the most pain when she is wet. When he hits her, over 20 times, with a belt, for not doing her chores, I wanted to take the belt to him!
Sam takes out his aggression on Charley without even verifying that Charley has been the woman calling around, trying to get someone to sell the ranch. Doesn’t Sam know how much the ranch means to her? Sam claims to know Charley more than she knows herself.
He is just so jealous that Charley wants to spend time trying to get to know the woman who has come back into her life. Charley would have figured out that her mom was a conniving witch all on her own.
This was just another book with gratuitous spankings taken out on a young woman trying to find her way after losing her father.

I received an ARC from the author thru Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is the second story about Charlie and Sam. I did not enjoy this one as much as I did the first one. It seemed like the characters should have known each other better at this point. A couple of discipline scenes that bothered me. I guess this one gave me a dark feeling at times instead of the love they shared.

Continuing the story of "Claiming his Brat", we are following Sam & Charlie from the point where we left them at the end of the previous book. After a stormy reunion, they have found a good balance in their relationship, even though Charlie is still skittish about a life long commitment. But suddenly, a person from Charlie's past had showed up and is creating hevoc in their relationship, bringing friction and mistrust.
I have to admit, I totally adore Sam and half the time I wanted to smack Charlie's head for not grabbing this amazing, caring, loving man (even if sometimes he shows his love in not the easiest of ways) and marrying him. I literally yelled at her for being so blind to how much she was being manipulated by that person and hurting her relationship with Sam. But at the end, she came to her senses and I forgave her.
And the letter, the letter! We finally get to read the letter that Jimmy left for Charlie, and by the time Charlie was done reading it I was crying my head off with her.
All in all, I very much enjoyed this book, I loved the characters, the plot and especially the alternate POV of the person telling the story. There is enough heat to light up a meduiom size building and a great happy ending.
Kessily Lewel, please add another book to the series!

OK, this is Book 2 of the Daddy Takes the Reins series by Kessily Lewel and I really wish I had read Book 1 as well. Not that I needed to in order to enjoy this book as it stands alone quite well and makes enough references to the past to fully understand the characters’ relationship background, it’s just that I’m sure it was every bit as exciting and enjoyable as this one. Charlie and Sam are joint owners of a family ranch, left to them in the will of Charlie’s deceased father. They live together happily, in a DDLG type relationship without any real age play. All is going along quite well until Charlie’s biological mother shows up and begins to create issues. The plot revolves around the couples’ coming to grips with this unexpected incursion. She is doing everything in her power to separate Charlie from Sam and Sam is doing everything he can to protect and keep Charlie safe. Lots of angst, lots of spankings (both for discipline and for enjoyment) and lots of truly erotic sex. I will now go back and read Book 1 and will also happily anticipate the author writing a Book 3. Great reading. 5 Stars

I had no idea that this was the second part of a saga and read the book as a standalone. I did wish to have read the first part first and see them get together in the first place but it was also nice to see the couple already settled and in love but still facing issues and dealing with them. I think I will read the first book eventually, since I really enjoyed the story and the characters. This book is steamy and has some DDLG dynamics, if you're not comfortable reading that, you should probably not read it. That said, the book was steamy but wholesome and cute and I would definitely recommend it.

Sam and Charlie are now settled on their relationship, they finally got to something where they are both comfortable with their positions and an agreement that suits them both. Their love is strong and old, even when they were apart for some time, but can their love withstand the intervention of someone from her past that might not have the best intentions? Will they be able to sort through the manipulation and come out of it without destroying their relationship?

Charlie and Sam finally had their relationship heading in the right direction. Charlie was going to go back to school and renovate the main house. The only thing that could have made it better was if her dad hadn't died and her mom hadn't left when she was a little girl. One day Charlie finds her mother on her porch. Charlie is torn between wanting to have a relationship with her mom but yet still yearns for the safety and protection of her Daddy Dom. Things about her mom start to strain her relationship with Sam. After reading a letter from her father she received after he died, she saw things about her life in a different light. She needed her Daddy in and out of the bedroom now more than ever, but was she too late?

The story is well written and entertaining. It tells of Charlie’s struggle to cope after her father dies and then the special conditions he puts in his will surprises her because it brings Sam back into her life as a partner in the ranch. Charlie lets Sam take control as her Dom and then her Daddy which gives her stability. There is a surprise visit from her absent mother who has her own agenda. There is a lot going on in this story and there were times I wanted to shake Charlie and demand she pay attention to the manipulation by her mother. You have to love Sam because he is so supportive and protective of Charlie even though there are times she pushes him beyond his tolerance which ends with her being disciplined. I would recommend this story as a great read.

No actual DDLG aspects

As I work my way through KU reading different series, I’m continually reading whatever pops up under suggested books. This series popped up and I’m forcing myself to stick with the…

I noticed while reading the first book there’s no actual age play, but decided it might’ve been a book to lay ground work. It was things aren’t any different with this second book. These books are BDSM based, but having the FMC call the MMC “Daddy”, introducing discipline, or occasionally mention a stuffed animal does NOT constitute an age play book.

I’d rather this series be labeled erotica. It’s obvious the author has some knowledge of D/S but this doesn’t mean she’s knowledgeable enough to pull off an DDLG book.

This was a good continuation of Charlie and Sam's story. Although they love each other a great deal, Charlie's fear of commitment gets in the way of them moving forward when she's faced with unfinished business from her past. The author does a good job showing the ongoing challenges in their relationship and how it can cause insecurities on both sides. There was a lot of retelling each part of the story from the other person's POV, which can get a bit tedious at times for the reader, but Kessily does well with it. Each time there was enough new info to keep it interesting. The relationship between these two seems so real and gave me lots of good feels.

Sam has his hands full with Charlie and as they work together on the ranch, Charlie tries to come to terms with the decree of her father’s will. Sam knows just what to do with Charlie’s naughty ways as he delivers the punishment she needs and is craving. But when mom suddenly reappears and tries to come between her and Sam, can Sam help Charlie realize what is happening before their relationship is torn apart? Charlie is trying hard to keep it all together and build a relationship with her mom but as secrets are revealed, Charlie will have to decide who she wants to be her future.

The second is as good as the first. I wish Sam had busted Vicky's butt for her! I love how Charlie and Sam's feelings radiated off the pages. The frustrations and fears, as well as the love they have for each other. The letter from Charlie's dad was awesome, too. I'm not sure which would have been better, sending Vicky away completely, or allowing her in Charlie's life as a kid, but he did it from wanting the best for his daughter. I'm sure parents have to make tough decisions like that every day. Maybe not to that extreme, but I felt for him.

VERY well done! Can't wait for the next installment!

Sam was now in charge at the ranch after her father wrote in his will that he had half of it. Charlie has to either merry him or go back to school before she gets a say in the running if it. She was thrilled bout what her father had done but she abs Sam had been a item years ago her father had sent business school she had really wanted to stay in the ranch. Now Sam and Charlie had found themselves in a second chance. His take charge attitude was what she needed. He was now her Daddy. He kept her focused and punished her bratty side. Things were going fine till the mother that walked out of her life when she was young shows back up. For the rest of the story you need to read the book

When Charlie's dad dies he leaves his property to Charlie but only half. The other half goes to her ex-boyfriend. Really weird at first until they find themselves drifting back into their old relationship with one big change she's not just lettng him dominate her, this time she's calling him Daddy. There are playful spanking and punishments now. When someone comes back from the past, everything changes. This is a really good book.

This is the second book in series about a Daddy Dom. I never read the first one but i didn't need it to enjoy this one. I will be looking for the first book only because I enjoyed this one so much. I am looking forward to seeing the beginning of this love story. It is a book that has conflict and love in equal amounts. Much like real life and made me long for a Daddy of my own. I am adding this author to my list of favorites.

Slightly confusing

This second book in the series was a bit difficult to read, switching the same incidents back and forth to reveal different points of view. Charlie still hasn't grown up much from the first story and hasn't really learned to trust her Dom, Sam. A trial to finish but a somewhat happy ending, although Charlie still has too much trust in a narcissist from the past who comes to steal from her.

I loved this book. I really am enjoying this trilogy. I loved the interactions between Sam and Charlie. Charlie and Sam have finally settle into an understanding relationship when a person from her past comes back. Sam has uneasy feelings about this but Charlie doesn't heed his warnings. Soon she is not fulfilling her promises to Sam. Sam has to take a firmer stance with her. Will they be able to work things out?

Charlie’s Dad has stipulated they have to work together to keep the farm they both love. Can they put aside their differences and have it all the farm and the love they both need and deserve.

family is not always good for you

Charlie and Sam decide to take it one step further and move in together.
Everything is going good until Vicky shows up; she is Charlies mom and tries to undermine her and Sam.
Vicky tries to break them up and she is really not the mom she thought she was.
A great story and a wonderful ending to this series.

Very good

Charlie and Sam are back for book 2. Only this time great sex and play are the only things involved. Mommy.dearest is back and Charlie is back to being the needy child and wanting acceptance from someone she doesn't even know. It was a hot read and a tear jerker a couple times. So worth the read.
