Elizabeth Holland is a writer of romance novels. She enjoys the escapism of picking up a book and losing herself in a new world. Elizabeth is a keen advocate for mental health and often speaks out about her own struggles. She writes to escape her own thoughts. When Elizabeth isn’t writing, she’s usually outside walking the dog. Her favourite walks are when it’s cold and rainy, so she can work on her next plot.
"Finding You" is a compelling and effective romantic thriller. I've read several of Ms. Holland's stories and this is the best one yet. The story has twists and turns that will keep you guessing. I highly suggest you give this a read!
I've read other stories by Holland before, so I was pretty interested to see her take on a more action-based thriller instead of the sweet romances I'd previously enjoyed. Overall, I have to say it really held up. An interesting and engaging story with a nice mix of hold-your-breath moments and sweet glimpses into the main couple's past. Nicely done.
Not normally a reader of romantic novels, I wasn't sure what to expect from Finding You, by Elizabeth Holland.
But I decided to give it a go when I saw its main category in Amazon's bestseller rankings was Romantic Suspense. And I'm glad I did. We're immediately thrust into an uncomfortable world as the author introduces us to Laura, who is sleeping rough on the streets when her undercover cop fiance, Sean, went missing after infiltrating a drugs gang.
Thanks to the author's skilful showing of their love, we quickly come to genuinely care about them both, as the mystery deepens surrounding Sean's disappearance.
The tension mounts with suspense and jeopardy, progressing to real danger, which are all handled with equal aplomb. Who can Laura trust?
As the book works relentlessly towards its climax the violence moves from being understated to more full blown, but still tastefully managed.
With believable, likeable characters, and fast paced action, this book is well worth an absolute, definite, barnstorming four stars, and just managed to sneak over the barrier to earn itself five.
'Finding You' is an action-packed, edge-of-your-seat thriller which weaves quite a tale and quite frankly leaves you breathless.
I really enjoyed the story, and the way Elizabeth Holland developed her main characters and built up tension, and I also loved the multiple points-of-view the story was told from and the flashbacks (which really added a lot to character development and the reader's emotional attachment to, and understanding of, the characters).
The story centres around Laura, who goes through one of the most grueling ordeals imaginable in this fast-paced thriller. Not knowing what's happened to her partner, Sean, and on the run, the story keeps you thinking and feeling and wanting to know more throughout.
I was fortunate to receivee an ARC (advanced reader copy) for this book, and what an honour it has been.
A really fantastic read. Great work by Elizabeth Holland!
After the charming world of the Vintage Bookshop of Memories, and its Christmas sequel, Elizabeth Holland, in ‘Finding You’ plunges us into a very different and disturbing world of drug gangs, undercover police work and vagrancy. We begin on the streets of London, and see the frightening reality of living rough, being scared at every turn, being perpetually hungry, not even being able to use an ATM for fear of being traced. But what combination of circumstances has brought an ordinary Manchester girl to this desperate pass? Who is she running from and what is the truth behind the disappearance and possible death of her fiancé Sean? And who can she trust? Is there any way back? When a young doctor, seeing her plight, offers help, she begins to feel the possibility of pulling herself out of the nightmare, but dare she tell him her true name? Even when help seems to be at hand, she feels compelled to keep up the fiction of her assumed identity. It is a situation from which Elizabeth Holland leads us into a complex plot of hope, fear and disappointment as, layer by layer, the truth is uncovered.
A bit too film-like for my taste. Then again, quite readable with a dash of romance. Of course, the MC's ideas abour living under the bridge to find out who targeted her BF and hiding her oh-so-memorable features while walking around smack middle of London don't hold up to any kind of scrutiny but oh well. All plots don't have to be logical. Do they?
Laura is on the run. Her boyfriend Sean is missing. She does not know who is on her tail. That is where the book starts. There is a good amount of twists and turns to keep the readers engaged in this easy read.
There is a vulnerability to Laura that had me screaming at her when she trusts strangers. Crime fiction can be very dark. This book is on the lighter side, and the plot is fairly straightforward. The flashback scenes of Laura thinking about Sean are heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The author allows us to see the characters in despair and makes us care, which is a tribute to her writing.
I see the possibility of a series with the characters introduced in this book.
This is the first book I am reading of Elizabeth Holland's. She shows a lot of potential, and I look forward to reading future works of hers.
Recommended: I recommend this book for readers of sweet contemporary romance with a side of crime.
Wow! FINDING YOU, a romantic suspense/thriller by Elizabeth Holland, was so good I binge read it in a single evening, unable to put it down! It will be a little tricky to talk about plot specifics because there are sooo many twists and turns in this one, but basically we start off the book with Laura homeless and living on the streets, in fear for her life. The writing is intense and I really loved how it conveyed her fear and sense of desperation as she tried to survive from minute to minute. She and her boyfriend Sean had lived together up until one night when she returned home to find him gone and a huge pool of blood on the floor. Now she doesn’t know if Sean is dead or in trouble, and she thinks someone is hunting for her, too. She meets Luke, who seems wonderful, but can she trust him? There were so many good twists in this I didn’t see coming! I was nervously anticipating each new chapter, eager to learn what happened, and the pacing never let up. Loved this! 5/5 stars.
This book is masterfully written and the plot is utterly captivating, with use of both the present and flashbacks that give you a great insight into the relationship between Laura and Sean.
This book is masterfully written and the plot is utterly captivating, with use of both the present and flashbacks that give you a great insight into the relationship between Laura and Sean. I highly recommend this book. While the mystery puts this book in a darker world than Holland’s previous two books, at its heart it is a love story. It makes the reader yearn for whether Laura will find Sean and whether, if he is alive, the two can reunite and have a future together. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am already looking forward to the author’s next books.
Laura Harper is on the run from an unknown foe, her long time love is missing and Laura is determined to find answers. We join Laura, hiding in plain sight in London as Claire, she is living on the streets as the anonymity might be her only chance at survival. Will Laura find her boyfriend, a police officer who has been missing for a year? Laura struggles to get answers to the only question that matters, is Sean still alive? This thrilling romance novel is a tale that only Elizabeth Holland could tell, her deft storytelling draws readers in and doesn't let you go. This is a book not to be missed.
I received an advance reading copy (ARC) of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
If Elizabeth Holland wrote a phone book, I would enjoy reading it. I liked her "The Vintage Bookshop of Memories" quite a bit as a sweet romance. In "Finding You," she expands her palette to a crime/mystery story.
I felt myself wandering the streets of London with Laura, her main character. (That's not a spoiler; it happens on the first page.) And then with her throughout. Laura is a good, solid character, and Holland draws her well. She handles the novel's time- and character-jumps well and I was never sure where things were going and who was who until very late.
Finding you is a wonderfully suspenseful story in a modern setting. Laura’s struggles with homelessness, despair, anxiety, hunger, and trauma responses as she searches for her missing partner, Sean. The romance in the story is evident in Laura’s flashbacks of her life as well as some of her guilt-ridden interactions with a seemingly kind stranger, Luke. As the story continues, and we learn more of the reasons behind Sean’s mysterious disappearance, the story becomes grittier and more violent. Overall, this is a fun action-packed read with elements of romance that truly bring the story together. Truly enjoyed.
You are immediately pulled in to Laura Harper's story. The plot is nicely structured with a mix of flashbacks and different points of view. There are sections that had me totally gripped and it all unfolded in a well-paced and well-planned way. The only thing that took me out of the story was the writing style which was a little repetitive at times and some aspects of the plot seemed a bit far fetched. If it had been set in the US I would probably have believed it more. Overall a good story, with romance at its heart.
The cover suggests a romance but it is more of an action book. It is nicely written and an enjoyable read, my only problem was that I struggled to believe it. The undercover police operation and some of the characters seemed very far fetched. However, I appreciate the work and care that was poured into the story and will likely return to the author sometimes.
From reading of the main character's current circumstances at the beginning of the book, I was hooked! This story is a real page turner - gritty and action packed. The suspense is continuously ramped up as the tale speeds towards its conclusion, keeping you guessing. A great read!
I love how this book is written, and Laura has become one of my fav characters by this author. The excellent blend of romance and mystery make this one a page turner! Don't miss it!
Action-packed With A Dash of Romance - My Kind Of Adventure! I was hooked from the first page! A real page turner - action packed and thrilling with a bit of romance - just the way I like it! A great read! I recommend both the author and the book!
A beautifully written book. The characters captivated me and drew me into the story. Elizabeth successfully built up the suspense and kept me wanting more. Loved it. Well done Elizabeth.
This is such a good book. Laura on the run not knowing who she can trust or where to turn next. I don't like to give away spoilers but I will say I loved the ending. A great book.
Even in this deceitful world, there is a place for true love.
I absolutely loved this book! The author managed to create an atmosphere of looming danger, so I was intrigued and cared about the characters throughout the story. A strong connection between the characters is very touching and beautiful.
