Born in New York, Madeline attended Fordham University, where she earned a B.A in Communications and Media Studies. It was during her time in college that she discovered her love of creative writing. However, it wasn’t until after graduating and embarking on a trip across Europe, where she walked the streets of Verona under Juliet’s balcony and drank coffee in Les Deux Magots, that she became inspired to write her first novel, The Return of Light.

When not writing or reading (she knows, how cliché), you can find Madeline baking in the kitchen, taking walks along the water near her house, or working alongside her sister to grow their wedding business (www.dearlybeeloved.com).

Favorite Quote
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

WOW! Convoluted, original, and well worth reading!

This is one astonishing story! As a debut novel, this story will take your breath away, and when you get to the end, you'll be wanting another installment as soon as possible.

The cast of characters is huge, but each one is realistic and believable. The background and world building is detailed and amazing. And the action scenes are an absolute blast!

Brie Fyre is 17, and when she goes to a party in the woods with her old friends and some new ones, she can't be expected to take it well when she's carried off to a feudal world with alliances that shift by the day. Power struggles, ancient abilities, long generations of magical families fighting for position among themselves - Brie has her hands full!

Will Brie be able to adapt to this new world? Does she really have powers that may appear at any time? Will she be able to forgive her parents for keeping so many secrets from her? Will she find new friends, maybe even fall in love?

If you enjoy a good sword and sorcery tale, try this one out. I especially liked the author's deft touch with the teenage characters and how well she describes the feelings and motivations they're experiencing.

The only thing I did not like was that in order to keep track of the huge cast I practically had to take notes. On the other hand, the vast array of characters is a big part of the story, and I'll enjoy re-reading it more than once!

Wonderful!

Well, I’m hooked!

This is the first book in The Primloc Chronicles series. I have to admit that if the rest of the series is like the first one I will be the first in line to add them to my library. I think it’s more geared toward teens and young adults but I found myself completely drawn in and held captive. Brie Fyre is a an average 17 year old attending boarding school, until she attends a party in the woods with some old and new friends and her life is turned upside down in a blink of an eye! She suddenly finds that her parents have been hiding family secrets from her and she’s immersed in a whole new world that changes daily while she waits to find out if she really will have mysterious powers that’s are supposed to show up any time now. She must depend on the very people she has every reason not to trust while she discovers who she really is and has to decide what role she will play in this new world.

Madeline Harper makes a huge impression with her debut novel, The Return of Light. This coming of age book is unique on many levels. Traveling between two worlds the author prepares the plot for when Brie Fyre enters the land of Vahalia. Royalty striving for control and magic, secrets within the realms, and madness lurking behind higher powers leaves the reader wondering where Brie, an average teenage girl, fits into all this.

The Return of Light is undoubtedly an exceptional read as Madeline Harper takes the reader to new worlds. The unpredictable plot and characters keeps this a novel you cannot put down. I love how the author blends typical teenage girl with a bizarre magical era. Secrets seem to abound as Brie finds her parents have secrets of their own, which marks her future. This book is creative, fun, and rare. The plot is rich, with many characters and family ties that can get confusing. Overall, well worth the read.

Let's just get something out of the way.

There are QUITE a few characters in this book. Like a lot.

That being said, I loved each and every one of them! Aside from Marcus though. I wanted to punch him...For those of you who read it, you'll understand why.

My only complaint about this book is that it doesn't have a character chart somewhere. That would've made keeping track of these characters a little easier. But none the less, I loved the book (minus Marcus) and will be giving it to my friend's daughter to read. She likes fantasy almost as much as I do!

Can't wait for the next book. Hopefully, Marcus will fall off a cliff...

DNF'd

I thought the premise of this book sounded interesting, but the more I read the more I disliked it. And maybe it's just me, but I found the writing to be a bit confusing with all the jumping back and forth between the two timelines/worlds. I also had a really hard time keeping track of the characters and their roles in the story.
I'd like to give this book another try but for now I'm content to stop where I did.

I went into this book a little hesitantly to be honest. Having never read a self-publish book before I didn’t really know what to except. But I was pleasantly surprised by this book! The world was complex and I even found some new characters to ship. #TeamClarisseAndPaolo 😍
