This wonderful charmingly illustrated book celebrates Jewish holidays all year long. From Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, to Sukkot, the celebration of the harvest, to Hanukkah, the festival of lights, this is the perfect book for families to enjoy together.
Lighthearted illustrations, simple text and brevity make this a fun introduction to the Jewish holidays appropriate for preschool or early elementary children with a short attention span. Though the book provides a colorful perspective, Christian families will struggle with the strong legalistic interpretation of Jewish festivals. For this reason, I preferred "Walk with Y'shua through the Jewish Year" by Janie-Sue Wertheim and Kathy Shapiro, though it lacks the engaging illustrations; check my review on Goodreads for more information.
This is an informative book that explains Jewish holidays in a way my kids can understand. We enjoyed reading it aloud together. I learned a lot as well.
As an honorary Jew, I am a sucker for a good Jewish children's book. This was a good book with simple explanations of Jewish Holidays. Even if you aren't Jewish, a lot of the holidays are based on Old Testament stories (as they all came from the same place) and if you are a Christian you can still read this book and gain something. I think this is a great book. It can be read in sections or all together. You could just study "Purim" or just read up on "Shavuot". I am always looking for an excuse to celebrate a holiday so, I think I am going to add the fun ones like (Not really interested in Yom Kippur...kind of a bummer holiday)
“Celebrate a book of Jewish holidays” is an informative book about all of the Jewish holidays and why each one is so special. This book is interesting and appropriate for early- middle elementary children. I like this book because it explains many Jewish holidays without oversimplifying it. I like how the book talked about the history behind each holiday, which is informative and can give the children many things to think about. The visuals in this vook help enhance the story and enhance student engagement. I wish this book represented more race instead of all the characters being the same race. There is no information on the author, Judith Gross’s ethnicity or religion, but overall it is a good read.
