This book has plenty of interesting lesser-known stories about the Piedmont Triad area. It gets a bit depressing to read about the brutal racism of the past (which in some form still exists) as well as mass murders that happened in the area. But I guess that makes it live up to its "hidden" name as I was not familiar with a lot of these stories.

Unsung heroes and heroines mingle with scoundrels in this account of lesser known history of North Carolina's Pidemont Triad. Stories of war veterans and civil rights activists, a first lady, business owners, even ghosts are included with furniture manufacturing and textile mill histories. Local colleges and schools are mentioned too. The best parts of the book were the personal quotes of the individuals on their histories, while some of the research for the book left me wanting to know more.
