Professional rubber stamper April Buchert is shocked to discover that the brother of one of the Stamping Sisters faked his own death, only to really die in a tragic car accident-that was not an accident at all. Now this heated family drama could cause one cold winter if the killer isn't found.
Good ending to the series (although it definitely left room for more books). I like April, Mitch and the rest of the scrappers. This was a good mystery and I was kept guessing and there was an exciting ending. I laughed, I cried and if there were more books I would read them!
Was pretty good. Enjoyed the story of a "dead" man coming back and getting killed a 2nd time. Loved the stamping ideas, especially the wall mosaic. There was several storylines going through this and I enjoyed the romance portion as much as the mystery portion.
So much going on in this book. Lots of twists and turns,a mystery at every turn, excitement at every turn I was surprised at the outcome. I was hoping there would be another book in this series, but it's been ages since this book came out and no mention of another book?
Personal challenge: Completion of the three books in the series. As a beginner in journal mixed media, I was interested in how ink stamps would be used as a component in a mystery series. In this story, it was used as a therapeutic/healing medium. This final book is the best of the series. Wish there could be more.
Somewhat complicated, but I had a pretty good idea of the culprit early on. Not wildly sold on April Buchert. Except for her name, Dewey Pelicano of the author's quilting series, is a more interesting lead character.
Another great book to the series! Lots of surprises and tears with this one. I hope the author keeps writing this series, she does a great job. The characters are awesome!
I wanted to like this, I really did. The other two were great. But after a sideways quip about gender neutral snow sculptures and a really horribly shocking conclusion, I just can't. It makes me really upset to not like a book but this one and I just did not vibe.
Got frustrated at the beginning because April was butting into something that was clearly not here concern at the funeral home even though her friend Deana told her straight out. It got better but that was annoying.
This is just a good, easy to read story. It has a bit of suspense, and a well deserved ending. It's fun. Pick it up when you just need to read something fun.
It's always fun to read a book where one of my hobbies is featured. The Stamping Sisters are a group of friends in a small town who meet up once a month to craft together. April is the newest member of the group, having returned to town after her marriage broke up. She is also the detective of the group, finding it strange that a man had been killed but no one seemed to care. As it turned out, that man wasn't actually killed in the meth lab explosion, which only leads April to ask more questions. Just as she had met him, he really is killed in a so called car accident. But when the coroner discovers a bullet wound, April needs to find out what happened. Sadly the police are no help, even seeming to hinder the investigation. Lovely story about a group of friends that all ends well.
Have you ever had a story that was absolutely perfect until the very end, when the author does something that just doesn't sit with you at all?
Well that's the case here.
The story is really intriguing, and April is a better than usual cozy heroine. She's spunky, but not obnoxious. Plus she has a boyfriend that she's pretty serious with. There's no one telling her she has to remarry. (April is a divorcee). I loved Mitch too. Especially his surprise at the Ice Festival that goes terribly wrong.
The mystery involves a family member who is involved in a local drug operation. (crystal meth) Not the usual subject for a cozy mystery. There's a lot in this short book about J.B.'s faking his death and how he had been trying to turn his life around. He was really a likable character and it is a shame he was one of the murder victims.
But that's not the thing that bothered me. Hey, it is a cozy mystery! Someone has to die! That's the whole point.
But did they have to kill of some likable secondary characters at the very end before the climax?
I don't want to give away who...but all I can say is when you hit the end your jaw will drop and then you'll throw the book at the wall.
The resolution of JB's murder is satisfactory though. It is a shame Terri had to end this book the way she did. I thought I was going to dive into this series, but I'm not sure if I want to now.
I enjoyed this book very much. What I like about this series is that its not all mystery. There is the story going on and, while the mystery part can seem to be a stretch, the other story lines seem pretty realistic.
This series by Terri Thayer creates mystery that will surprise the reader. The characters, Pennsylvania setting and an ending lets the reader know there will be more stories is well worth the time to complete. copy right 2010
