When I think of fun books for children, it would probably involve art, silly characters, baking treats, and the zoo. Well... that's the best way to describe Sir Chocolate and the Fondant Five story and cookbook by Robbie Cheadle and her son Michael. This is the fifth book in the adorable series that I've read... and perhaps my favorite because of all the amazing fondant art you'll find inside the pages.

The zoo is fascinating to children (adults too). When Robbie created elephants, lions, giraffes, leopards, rhinos, buffaloes, monkeys, and so much more, she truly stunned me. This family could have their own tv show with all the creations! In this story, the animals have vanished, so Sir Chocolate must locate them. What fun it was to see the stroll through all the hideouts to find them... and that wedding cake looks divine.

Another winner, and I think with all the variety of animals and locations in this one, it's the most creative and appealing visually. They're all great books, but this is the stand-out. Pick it up and learn more about Lady Sweet and all the friends in Chocolateland. Meant for 2 to 8 year olds but adored by so many more!

Robbie Cheadle's Sir Chocolate and the Fondant Five story and cookbook (2019) is the next in the author's delightful series of books that blend children's stories with themed original recipes. This one is a clever story poem about the disappearance of zoo animals and how Sir Chocolate must figure out what happened.

"One day Sir Chocolate arrived, and not a sound could hear, he called long and loud, but no animals did appear. The animals had vanished, the zoo was empty and still,"

"The monkey is naughty, he likes to have fun, he plays tricks on the others, then away he does run."

The story is written in the format of a poem and includes great photographs that help readers visualize the action. At the completion of the story, there is a cute poem to introduce an original collection of animal-themed recipes children can complete with their parents. Some of the recipes are:

* Sir Chocolate peppermint caramel pudding
* Cheetah Cheese Scones
* Rino Soetkoekies

I have bought several of these books because I love the idea of blending a story with cooking and inspiring kids and parents to spend time together. I also love that Robbie writes these books with her son, Michael, each doing their part in writing, cooking, and photographing. Overall, this is another excellent book in a clever collection that not only entertains but brings parents and kids together.

Robbie Cheadle and her son Michael, in the delightful book Sir Chocolate and the Fondant Five Story and Cookbook, combine children’s stories, poetry, and recipes together. The story is about a zoo in Chocolate Land with Fondant Five, namely the lion, king of the jungle, the gentle elephant, the elegant leopard, the bulky rhino, and the buffalo. Sir Chocolate cares for them. One day, these five fondant animals disappeared. Sir Chocolate found Fondant Cat who could help to find Fondant Five.

This fun storybook includes recipes for Lady Sweet Rusks, Buffalo Coconut Cake, Rhino Soetkoekies, Cheetah Cheese Scones, and Sir Chocolate Peppermint Caramel Pudding.

The book has beautiful photographs of the fondant animals and desserts. Students in the classrooms will enjoy the story, poems and photos in this book. I will read this to my granddaughter. I also love the idea of parents doing the cooking with their children using these recipes.

More adventures and recipes

Sir Chocolate saves the fondant five from the bad elves. And there are recipes to choose from for a birthday present. I like the bravery in the poem and the recipes giving children an opportunity to make a present for their father.

Likely parental guidance will be needed to make these recipes for very young children but that is all for the better. It is an activity book for the family to build memories.

A cute book with yummy characters, all hand-made cake decorations!

I was very happy to discover this yummy little book on my Kindle, especially since I've heard so many great things about this series!

First I have to mention the illustrations, all look like delicious cake decorations and I just wanted to eat them all! I heard the author is a talented baker, now I have proof.

The story is written in sweet, short rhymes very easy to follow and they add a musicality to the story-line. We see cute elephants, lions, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, monkeys, and other animals. There is a little bit of mystery introduced but, no worries, Sir Chocolate saves the day!

This book is a gentle introduction to zoo animals and I can see it as a great way of involving the little ones in dialog or for holiday or school related activities.

Highly recommended.
