As Quin gets deeper into learning about the Beck, she discovers that life outside does exist.
With plans to escape by boat, Quin intends to remain behind with Cameron while some members of the resistance make a break for it. The groups’s plans, however, are foiled by the appearance of the Shadow Patrol, and Quin ends up on the boat to another land while Jackson remains behind with Cameron.
The grass is not always greener, however, as Quin and the others discover. Having been able to smuggle aboard her friends Cass and Harper, confusion ensues when they land at the Crags, the secluded land former Beck members have used for their base. There is little food, and most surprisingly, no one to regulate their days.
Not everyone who was rescued appreciates it, either. Harper’s friend, Thomas, is especially belligerent about everything from food to supplies. Can this group of 20 survive without destroying each other?
This was another good installment in the series. Living at the Crags, Quin learns that others - not from the Beck - live on the Ridge and are not to be trusted. Who could these people be, and why are they trying to harm them?
This book delves farther into interpersonal relationships among the Beck members now living on the Crags. There are a lot of strong personalities and disagreements about which way leadership on the island should go.
I enjoy how Quin tries to give everyone a fair pass, even Thomas, who is incredibly rude. This book has no romance in it because Cameron stays behind to keep an eye on the Beck while Quin ends up on the rescue boat. It’s still good, though!
Ready to read the last installment to see where everything ends up!
