Werewolf Sanctuary by Eva Gordon Paranormal Romance- May 8th, 2009 4 stars
I typically tend to be more passionate about reading vampire novels when it comes to the supernatural fiction collection. But I could not help but become intrigued with this shifter book! It had all the elements that grab your attention. I found it an exhilarating page turner from the beginning to end.
Werewolf Sanctuary begins with a burst of action that kept me hooked! The author keeps the reader engrossed by explaining the main character’s (Wyatt Weylyn) origin which was highly fascinating. At Wyatt’s wolf sanctuary, the wolf cubs have been succumbing to various ailments including death. Wyatt is on a mission to hopefully cure and resolve this issue.
Maddie is a doctor in the biology of wolves and has a specialty in their diseases as well. She was a wonderful character. I felt deeply connected to her since she went through what many single women go through before they find their soul mates. I particularly was attracted to Maddie’s down to earth personality and courage handling sudden new changes to her life in ways she never expected to happen.
How do their lives intertwine? You MUST read it to find out. This is a guaranteed enjoyable read! There is a generous amount of romance, action, intrigue and paranormal that will keep you energized and wanting more!

Action-packed from page one, making this a fast and easy read. Although this was a shifter, and it totally stimulated the “imaginatory” mind, it felt so real with real life, relatable plots. This author never disappoints! Book gifted to me.
This had the potential to be a great book, but there were so many confusing jumps when she is in the study getting the conveniently placed tranquilizer gun then she magically teleports upstairs past the two wolves fighting on the stairs, there are many such instances that made to read confusion. Then there where the grammatical error, if you have to go though and read the same part more than once to figure out that they are doing, because words are missing it not fun. Then there are the technical inaccuracies like the Apache helicopter being used as a lift aircraft, it is a attack aircraft with two pilot no room for passengers, instead of the Blackhawk, Chinook, or UH-1. Not to mention the fact how they got a hold of military grade aircraft. Then there is the whole fly down to south America on a helicopter not only is that very time consuming but very ineffective not to mention the whole cross boards request that would have to be made. Then there was her infection that takes a while to set in, it does not spontaneously appear after one bite, a good cleaning would have gotten rid of most of it and would still take a few days to sink in before a fever even set in. The book could have ended very well just after her rescue but it got dragged out for a few more chapters that were boring and felt like the author was just trying to extend the book a bit more. All in all I would not recommend this book, unless you enjoy reading some that a High schooler might write.
Got this when it came out and while I liked the story, the editing almost drove me batty. I will admit to some OCD tendencies--and am the product of a family of educators--so I do not handle serious editing mistakes--spelling mistakes, typos, using the wrong word--to instead of two or too, their for they're, Heir for hair, insure for ensure etc. Let's just leave it at the fact that if there hadn't been so many problems with the editing of this book it probably would have gotten at least one, maybe even 1.5 more stars. And sorry, but a spell check program does NOT do the work of a professional editor. Still, I liked the premise of the story and the characters were interesting. And it had baby werewolves in it--who can resist babies, of whatever species, right?
Hopefully they've fixed the editing problems in later editions. If not, and you have the same difficulty I have--skip this book or see if you can find it in an audio format, so that you don't have to put up with the problems.
Let me just start by saying I finished this book in 2 days! Please everyone do your romantic soul a favor and go out and get yourself a copy. The romance and humor grabbed me from page 1. Wow Eva what a wonderful story you spin, I find myself wishing to be a Wolf Maiden! Kudos and Bravo for the first Wolf Maiden saga! I am breathlessly awaiting the release of Beast Warrior your next installment!
Madeline was an amazing character. She was a woman after my own heart. Wyatt was a very funny man when he was chasing after Madeline. Reminds me of a dog with his tongue hanging out wanting some food. Great story.
Werewolf Sanctuary Wolf Maiden Saga, Book 1 By: Eva Gordon Narrated by: J. B. Burgess
Eva Gordon created an imaginative story that captivated me from start to end. I enjoyed her writing style and found the storylines & characters to be both original and interesting. There is great character development and world building. I liked the two lead characters, Wyatt Weylin and Dr. Madeline (Maddie) Styles. Wyatt is an alpha male lycan (werewolf) there is an illness effecting the werewolf’s offspring, their young are shifting to wolf form and unable to shift back. He is in need of a veterinarian who specializes in wolves. He finds the perfect person, Maddie, and offers her job at his Wolf Sanctuary, which she accepts. Turns out she is more than a Doctor she is a wolf maiden and his true mate. He just has to introduce her to his world and make her a part of it. But nothing comes easy, a rival and evil werewolf wants Maddie for himself, he wants offspring only a wolf maiden can provide. This book is well plotted, there is never a dull moment, with plenty of drama, action, twists, some thrilling suspense and hot romance. Eva Gordon, thank you for this great story and emotional rollercoaster ride.
I listened to the Audible edition, J.B. Burgess does a nice job narrating and bringing the story to life. He projects the emotions of the characters and the drama of the story into his performance. He is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this great listen🎧
Audible. (Also available on KU) I was pleasantly surprised by this audiobook. Paranormal can be hit or miss for me because some authors don't always do a good job of staying consistent with the "rules" they've created for their world. Eva Gordon does this well and combines it with a unique take on wolf shifters and their interaction with the human world.
I'm a romantic suspense fan as well and was happy with the action parts. There was a bit of a lull in the middle as our main characters were meeting, but nothing too bad. What I especially loved is that Maddy is an intelligent and strong heroine, no TSTL scenes here! Wyatt is definitely a strong alpha male, but not dismissive or demeaning to Maddy. He does make a few missteps, but nothing that would have me wishing Maddy would drop him. The supporting cast as well as antagonists are well developed. Gordon has a knack for combining all these elements into an engaging story. I will definitely seek her out in the future.
My only complaints would be: * Maddy would say phrases like, "practice pet medicine" and referring to herself as a "pet doctor" instead of veterinarian or other technical words. It detracted from her expertise as a doctor. * "Wolfish grin" was used repeatedly to describe one of the werewolves smiling. It came off as "campy" and, to me, distracted from what seemed to be a serious story. * There was this "real life" wolf growl soundtrack that would occasionally play, and it just didn't work for me. Maybe if this were a cast or play like performance with regular "sound effects", but with a single narrator it was sort of jarring.
J. B. Burgess was new to me as a narrator. He has a good voice and did a wide variety of accents ~ giving each character their own unique voice. I was never lost trying to figure out who was who. There were a few times where he was a bit stilted, but nothing to keep me from listening to this again.

I love shifter books. This one has to be my new favorite. It was so interesting and unique and made the most sense in a real world (I know it's fiction). This is the story of Wyatt, a werewolf who is a leader and runs a wolf sanctuary, and Madeline, who is a doctor who specializes in the wolf species. Pups are dying at Wyatt's sanctuary and also at others. Madeline might be the key to finding out the cure to this unknown disease. Wyatt hasn't found his wolf maiden yet, but that all changes when he meets Madeline. She feels a pull towards him too. She think she is going to just help a wolf sanctuary but soon she is thrown into a romance she can resist and also an adventure that puts her life in danger. Wyatt isn't the only wolf that wants Madeline and a war of packs is on the brink because of her. Try finding a cure to a rare disease with all that going on! And then family secrets are exposed that blew my mind. I was totally invested in this story and these characters. I will definitely be reading on. This narrator did a great job as the voice of the story. This story on audio really felt alive. A must read/listen for shifter romance fans.
Dr Madeline Styles' grandmother fed her fascination with wolves all her life. Now she studies their lives and illnesses all over the world. So much so that she has sacrificed her latest relationship because of it. Wyatt Weylyn is an Alpha wolf and mercenary soldier. He has raised lots of money that his pack and all werewolves need to find out how to cure the disease that is killing their pups. He now needs the best vet they can find. This is an exciting story with our author's own set of rules for her Lycans and their mates. The characters are great and will draw you into the life of this pack. We have the monsters that need to be stopped, and family connections that will surprise our characters. I loved it.
This is the first book in the wolf maiden series and what an enjoyable story this book has been. The wolf sanctuary is looking for a human vet to solve a problem they are having with their pups. The only problem is when Wyatt finds her she is more than he expected. Fast forward and we find that the head of the wolves was originally Maddy’s grandmothers first husband whom she thought had died. And he of her. Whilst her grandmother has now passed she’s been able to meet the man that her grandmother held a flame for all her life. The books with a HEA for Maddy and Wyatt but also with a bit of sorrow. Overall I loved this book with twists and turns and an a&hole of a wolf who gets what’s deserved.
This is not your typical shifter story. It has a little different light to it. Madeline is wolf maiden but doesn’t know it. Wyatt shows up at a conference to hire her for his wolf sanctuary and after a funny misunderstanding he realize she is his mate. So thing become intense after that. Wyatt harbors a LOT of secrets. It he refrains from telling Madeline until he get her to the sanctuary. That cause a whole other mess of problems. I liked this story. This is a first time author for me. The story flowed nicely and I was easily engaged. The characters are nicely rounded. I did listen to this on audio. This is my first listen by J.B Burgess. He did a good job. The wolf howling was great!!
Wow, I had a hard time putting this book down. So much different emotions thought out the book also heart stopping scenes. Maddie is a wolf maiden and never knew it. She is also a well know vet. Wyatt is a werewolf and looking for a cure for his pack's cubs that are turning pure wolf. Can Maddie find a cure? Can she accept being Wyatt's wolf Maiden? Can Wyatt protect her? Can he make her see that she belongs with his pack? I received a free copy for my hones review.
In this book werewolves are dying out due to a disease killing their young. A well respected veterinarian is recruited to assist. She coincidentally is the mate of the Alpha and comes from a family rich with wolf maiden history. It was good to see women in respected roles and even as Alphas. I loved the relationship Maddie had with her grandmother’s first husband.
A new series called Wolf Maiden Saga and I want to read the rest of the books. A well written story that had me crying in parts. The story flows smoothly from page to page and once I started reading I was not putting it down. I recommend this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Wyatt needed someone that studied wolves. Children in his pack were shifting and staying wolves and some dying. Maddie a veterinarian loved studying wolves. When Wyatt meets Maddie, he realizes she is his mate, AA wolf maiden. How to explain all of this to a human. Enjoyable story.
Exciting fast paced and full of twists from start to finish.Action, murder mystery, romance, medical mystery, lots of super cute wolf cubs, betrayal, heartbreak how much more can you get in I story? If you only but one book this month this should be the one Can't wait for the next if this is book 1
As usual, Eva Gordon has provided a wonderful paranormal romance, with fabulous characters. The world she has built for this one has been woven into our history, present day and myths as well as being a detailed creation of it's own. Very well done. Werewolf Sanctuary by Eva Gordon is a good shifter romance with a great introduction to the various types of shifters and werewolves. I learned some details I never knew about this genre. The storyline was good and full of action. The descriptions were vibrant. J.B. Burgess performed this book quite well. He added the right emotions and brought the characters to life.
This is the first book in the Wolf Maiden Saga, a Paranormal Romance. The characters are great. The story has an interesting world building. The storyline is fast-paced, action packed, and intriguing, filled with twists and turns, and mystery. J. B. Burgess did a good job with the narration.
I enjoyed this wolf shifter book. There’s non stop action throughout. An intriguing storyline with a strong female lead. Good characters with likeable personalities. Excellent performance from J B Burgess.
Great story of lovers found, taken and found again. Of scientists finding cures to new disease or illnesses. Look forward to reading more of Eva Gordon books.
The story grabbed my interest right away with a decent plot and interesting characters. No explicit sexual content for those of you who want to know about that.
