Journey into the unknown with 'Remote Viewing Session X719,' a dark science fiction anthology by the visionary Dane Sullivan. In this gripping collection of short stories, Sullivan pushes the boundaries of imagination to explore the darkest corners of the human psyche and the mysteries of the universe. Each story is a glimpse into our future beyond the stars. Each unique. Each more unhinged than the last. Some feel like classics from the golden age of sci-fi, some have the dark cynicism of modern cyberpunk.
"An almost comically dark outlook on the path of technology's development"
These tales are a torrential wormhole through dystopian futures, alien worlds, and the twisted corridors of the human mind. With Sullivan's masterful storytelling, you'll be immersed in a web of suspense, intrigue, and existential dread, as each unfurls with a unique brand of darkness.
"It has been a lot of time since I read something new that was this original."
If you crave stories that push the boundaries of your imagination and leave you questioning the fabric of reality itself, then this collection is a must-read.
"Original, Cynical and Deep"
Explore high-tech worlds where the working class have been deemed useless, witness covert wars fought over the powers of the mind, and discover alien invasions executed through legislation. This anthology digs into what the future may have in store, and it is not all flying cars and gleaming spires. It is a universe of planetary colonial powers finding creative new ways to exert ancient policies of control over outlying systems and massive monopolistic corporations managed mostly by AI finding innovative new uses for an outdated biological labor force, and through it all people still finding ways resist and survive.
"The stories contained within its pages are excellent."
Humorous and brilliantly haunting, this is a collection you won’t be able to stop talking about.
Includes 34 stories in total . Contains some adult language and situations
"Remote Viewing Session X719" by Dane Sullivan is a collection of short stories spanning 157 pages, brimming with intriguing concepts and robust writing. My primary critique of the collection is that some stories could have been developed further. However, a positive aspect is that these stories ignited my imagination.
I don't usually like short stories - there never seems to be time to develop characters and they always feel unfinished (to me). I started reading this collection, because I was part-way through reading a printed book (a biography) and I wanted an e-book to read in the bath (I didn't want to ruin the printed book, which my girlfriend bought me), so I searched for short stories in my Kindle library and this looked interesting. The stories are indeed short - 34 in 150 pages - and to my surprise, the lack of time for character development wasn't necessarily important, as some of the stores are good enough as they are. Inevitably, there's a bit of variability, but I liked the interlinked stories (The Psychotic's Gamble and Flickering Ice are the same story, told by different people) and the stories that took place in the same universe, but in different parts thereof. There's a general leaning towards Socialist ideas (an unexpected plus) and the author manages to include a good amount of engineering, science and philosophy. All in all, much better than I anticipated.
Prepare to be captivated by the possibilities that await within these pages...
Dane Sullivan's debut collection, "Remote Viewing Session X719," takes readers on a mesmerizing journey through the dark depths of humanity's future beyond the stars. With a unique blend of cynicism and depth, this anthology captivates from the very first story to the last, leaving readers both haunted and intrigued.
Each narrative within this collection stands as a testament to Sullivan's remarkable storytelling prowess. Some tales evoke a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of the golden age of sci-fi, while others embrace the gritty cynicism of modern cyberpunk. As the book progresses, the stories push boundaries and venture into increasingly unhinged territories, defying expectations, and challenging conventional notions of speculative fiction.
Sullivan masterfully weaves the theme of technology's development throughout the anthology, offering an almost comically dark outlook on its path. Through the lens of remote viewing, a practice associated with the OSS and CIA, the author presents glimpses into possible futures. These futures portray a humanity that has reached distant stars, yet remains haunted by the same demons that have plagued us throughout history.
The author fearlessly delves into the complexities of high-tech worlds, where the working class is deemed useless, covert wars are fought over the powers of the mind, and alien invasions are executed through legislation. The stories expose the insidious ways in which planetary colonial powers exert control over outlying systems, while massive monopolistic corporations, predominantly managed by AI, find innovative uses for a now outdated biological labor force. Amidst it all, individuals find the strength to resist and survive, embodying the resilient spirit of humanity.
Sullivan's prose possesses a remarkable balance of humor and haunting beauty. The narratives are laced with wry wit, providing moments of levity amidst the darkness. It is evident that the author possesses a deep understanding of human nature and the intricacies of societal power dynamics, reflected in the thought-provoking themes explored throughout the collection.
"Remote Viewing Session X719" comprises a total of 34 stories, each offering a distinct perspective on the possibilities that lie ahead. From the first page to the last, readers will find themselves engrossed in Sullivan's vividly imagined worlds, pondering the implications of our collective choices as a species.
It is worth noting that this collection contains adult language and situations, which contribute to its raw and unfiltered portrayal of the human condition. Sullivan fearlessly confronts uncomfortable truths, inviting readers to confront their own assumptions and prejudices.
"Remote Viewing Session X719: A Collection of Short Stories" is an original and compelling anthology that offers a glimpse into the untamed realms of our future. Dane Sullivan's debut is a tour de force, delivering stories that are simultaneously entertaining and thought-provoking. Prepare to be captivated by the possibilities that await within these pages. Highly recommended.
