Chris Bradford is the bestselling author of the Young Samurai, Bodyguard and Soul Series.
Chris is renowned for his inspiring author events and ‘method writing’ style. For his award-winning Young Samurai series, he trained in samurai swordmanship, karate, ninjutsu and earned his black belt in Zen Kyu Shin Taijutsu.
For his BODYGUARD series, Chris embarked on an intensive close protection course to become a qualified professional bodyguard.
And for the Soul Prophecy trilogy, Chris travelled extensively to experience first-hand the cultures featured in the story – from living with the Shona people in Zimbabwe, to trekking the Inca trail, to meditating in a Buddhist temple amid the mountains of Japan.
His books have been published in more than 25 languages and been nominated for 30+ book awards, winning among others the Northern Ireland Book Award 2011, the Hampshire Book Award 2014 and the Brilliant Book Award 2014. Young Samurai: The Way of the Warrior was deemed one of Puffin’s 70 Best Ever Books, alongside Treasure Island and Robin Hood.
I think this is my favorite in the series. Less language than previous books. Only the H word a handful of times, maybe the D-word once or twice. It would be cool if the author decided to write a spin-off series at some point.
Why “only” three stars? Well it wasn’t like the book was bad or I didn’t like it, it was more compared to the other books of the series. It was well and suspenseful written, that much is for sure, but for me it was just too much “action”. But action in a repetitive way. It was basically going back and forth between them fleeing and escaping Mr. Grey and Equilibrium, being found, something happening, them escaping again, hiding somewhere, being found again and so forth. After Mr. Grey supposedly died (like at the end of the last book) and then suddenly was ringing the doorbell for me it kind of took a lot from the plot in my opinion. There wasn’t really that much room for the characters to develop, because there was something happening all the time. I really can’t decide between 3 and 4 stars, because 3 stars for me is normally a “whatsoever” book and it did exceed that, but it wasn’t as good as some of the others I rated with 4 stars, so if I could I would say 3.5.

This book started out okay for a preteen/YA series, but the main character was so incompetent for a supposed young spy that I almost DNF'd it out of annoyance
Connor is in Mexico on a job when everything suddenly goes wrong. Dejectedly, he returns home knowing that he failed and his principal and friend paid the ultimate price. He understands that none of his teammates will want anything to do with him after his failure but finds it strange that nobody responds when he requests pick up. When he arrives back at the compound, he realizes that it has been attacked. Steve is dead and everyone except Amir is gone. Connor and Amir go on the run, trying to find out what happened and where the rest of the team has gone, but it isn't long before loyalties are tested and trust becomes a rare commodity.
Fugitive is the last in the Bodyguard series and ends it with a bang. Fevered action and suspense drive this story that is laced with loss and sorrow. It is fitting that since the series began with Connor and Amir that it should also end with these two characters being in the center of the action. As the characters attempt to take down Equilibrium, lies come to the surface that make Connor question who he can trust, but the end of the story is satisfying even if it isn't totally happy. Overall, Fugitive concludes this series in an enjoyable fashion.
Book Fugitive was constant action from beginning to end. It is a loving, adventurous book. But in my opinion, there was just too much action, which was kind of confusing in some parts. Action in a repetitive way. It was basically going back and forth fleeing and escaping Mr. Grey and Equilibrium continuously. But I liked how Connor was willing to lose everything, not giving up at all times to try and save Charlotte Hunter.
Great book, such an amazing conclusion to the story. Lots of character development in the story and I loved seeing all the books come together. There was such a feeling of hopelessness when he and Amir were at the destroyed hq. There were lots of twists and turns, taking the story in completely unexpected ways and in many places I found myself questioning things I thought I'd known since the beginning. Great book
I loved the entire fast paced action series. I was really disappointed that the author decided to close down this series. I would have much preferred that he cover topics with Bravo, Charlie, Delta Teams, and/or other characters of alpha team. That being said, it may not have been possible for the author to continue it as he is a method writer. The author was also limited by what he could describe in a children's series even with the disclaimers in the front of each book.
I unironically wrote an email to Chris Bradford after reading this. He wrote back. I got a signed photo. Then I wrote him another email because I had nothing better to do. I got another reply. He replies to each email himself and like, answers questions (or did for me). So five stars because ten-year-old me thought he was the best thing to ever happen and he does seem like a genuinely nice guy. Also, his books are good.
Did not expect this book to be even sort of more thrilling as the others since they had a lot more of problems to solve and overcome and all so I was completely unprepared for a book as thrilling as this at the end of the series. As I‘ve said in my previous review for the fifth book i got used to the writing but even that only took away like 0,5% of the originality and my excitement.
Loved this series! Fugitive was constant action from beginning to end, while Connor worked toward finally figuring out what Equilibrium was all about. If Chris Bradford ever wanted to continue writing about Connor's adventures, I would be all in!
This series just keeps on giving. Ups and downs and curve balls all around - couldn’t put this one down. You’ll love it - and left wondering if there will ever be another!
