Annette Blair's romantic comedies owe their beginnings to a root canal and a reluctant trip to Salem Massachusetts. Though she had once proclaimed she'd never write a contemporary, she stumbled into the serendipitous role of Accidental Witch Writer on that trip. Funny how she managed to eat her words even with an aching jaw. Magic or destiny; Annette's Bewitching Romantic Comedies became her first National Bestsellers.

Her August '07 release, SEX AND THE PSYCHIC WITCH, the first in her Triplet Witch Trilogy, hit the #1 bestselling spot for contemporary romance-humorous on Barnes & Noble. It also hit B & N's overall bestseller lists for mass market and fiction mass market and #7 for romance mass market, topping Nielsen BookScan and Borders Bestseller lists as well.

Review by Laurie Bratt for Romance Novel News

After dying eight years ago, Chance Godricson, a lovesick guardian angel, is chastised by his superiors for neglecting his caseload. He chooses to focus only on Queisha Saint-Denis, a woman he sacrificed himself for in a tragic building collapse.

The newest arrivals in this afterlife, called Everlasting, are a wealthy couple that had contracted Queisha as a surrogate mother for their six-year-old twin daughters. He knows that Queisha is named legal guardian in their will and fears that news of the couple’s accident may further validate her agoraphobia.

Best friend Angus knows Chance is walking a fine line and if he does not make some serious improvements Chance may lose his guardian angel position and be banished.

Aware of the potential judgment of Everlasting’s archangel Tribunal, Angus pushes Chance into the earthen realm, where he secretly lands in Queisha’s closet.

Queisha, fearing public places, spends her days locked in the 23-room seaside home she inherited from her aunt, however, she has begun therapy to work through her phobia.

Queisha’s friend Vivica, a witch and expert in assisting paranormals, senses Chance and Angus. She quickly hatches a plan to have Chance hired as Queisha’s cook, thus allowing him direct access to his charge. With Chance in place at the home, he is allowed to help Queisha prepare for the arrival of the orphaned twin girls.

While earthbound, Chance struggles against his desire and feelings for Queisha. He discovers that if he is impure in thoughts or actions he loses wing feathers. Chance ponders the risks of being intimate with Queisha, knowing if all of his feathers are lost, he will die and lose his guardian angel status.

Annette Blair successfully creates a convincing world where the paranormal exist among everyday humans. Chance is an immediately likeable love interest for the relationship-cautious Queisha.

The story is driven by the dynamics and interactions between the two and convincingly takes the reader on their personal journey.

Blair reveals the depth of her characters, their experiences, and how the twins play into their lives. It is hard not to be carried away by the humor, emotion, love, sex, and mischief that surround Chance and Queisha.

“Bedeviled Angel,” is the second book in Blair’s “Works Like Magick” paranormal series.

I liked that the heroine suffered from agoraphobia - that was a bit different. Cute story with a guardian angel falling for his charge and going to earth to help her through a bad time.

What I enjoyed:
* The world. Angel lies then he goes back to being an angel. The painting and Connor. Losing different colored feathers. Interesting.
* The sweet little family they formed.
* I like that they were pretty honest with each other.

What could have been better:
* I was surprised they held off telling the twins for so long, that didn't seem right.
* The agoraphobia cleared up a little too quickly.
*
* I'd still like to see more of the workings of the placement agency.

Bedeviled Angel by Annette Blair (Quickie Review)

Oh, this book is fabulous! I can't believe Annette Blair made an agoraphobic heroine work, but she did. And the hero is delicious...I want one of his golden (and silver...hee hee hee!) feathers! The sweet, tender moments are to die-for. My favorite moment is when the heroine tosses the twins' uniforms out the window. Blair knows that little gestures like this make a big emotional impact. This book is charming, lusty, fun and sweet. And, it's got doxie puppies. It just doesn't get any better than this!

Good read - very little overlap to the previous entry in this series [Naked Dragon] so it could be read very easily as a standalone. I must admit that I liked Naked Dragon better, probably because I like dragons better than angels, but it is still an excellent read - full of her quirky characters, humor, and set in the small towns of New England.

#2 Bedeviled Angel
#3 Vampire Dragon - due out April 2011

More 3.5 stars than 3 stars. It was an okay read for me, nice story but a bit depressing for my taste. I loved Chance, what an angel and Queisha was cool. I will read the next book in the series: Vampire Dragon.

I had honestly expected the second book in this series to be about Jayden and Vivica. After all, he’s the second dragon brother to rock up in Naked Dragon. Instead, it is about a character that I didn’t even know was likely to show up. And I wasn’t in the slightest bit disappointed. After all, Queisha and Chance turn out to be a lovely couple and you just can’t but fall for them. Over and over and over again.

There is nothing like a flawed heroine to make you fall in love. And, normally, these flaws seem to come in the shape of some tragic past that makes the characters prickly and somewhat difficult. Untrusting. Something like that. Queisha has had a tragic past, and there’s a fair bit of mystery that gets unravelled throughout this story. But what I really loved is that her flaw is so unlike that of any other character so far – she’s an agoraphobe. Dealing with a mental illness amongst the rest of the storyline was a brilliant way to create a new character. I feel like I need more stories with mental health being the flaw, rather than trust or some form of more aggressive response.

Amongst a fallen angel and an agoraphobe with some skeletons in the closet, Blair managed to throw in two gorgeous little girls. The fact that one carries the same name as me of course just made them all the more loveable. Amongst some more serious, seductive moments throughout this story, there are these gorgeous sparks of humour and fun that the twins bring to life. It also makes a fun, ready-made family story that doesn’t have all the messiness of pregnancy, hormones and new borns…

Bedeviled Angel is a sweet and easy read. It’s one that has this constant threat of destruction to the happiness of everyone hanging over their heads. A threat implicit in the removal of the twins to a new guardian, the loss of Chance when he gets his wings back… everything in this story, every happiness is under threat. Which, of course just makes you rip through it all the quicker. Just so you can be sure that there is actually a happily ever after at the end…

I loved this story! The two main characters were so fabulously quirky and flawed that you couldn't help but love them and root for them. Read it. You'll love them too.

Bedeviled Angel by Annette Blair
Paranormal Romance -Aug 3rd, 2010
4 stars

Annette Blair writes a fun, frothy romance. Big on laughs and with a huge heart. Bedeviled Angel is part of the Works Like Magick series but can easily be read by itself.

Chance is an angel with many human charges but there is one that he can't help thinking about all the time. The lovely and quirky Queisha Saint-Denis. Queisha has a big heart but lots of problems. The chief among them being that she seems to have inherited 2 orphaned girls (she was their surrogate mother) after their parents went missing while mountain climbing. Queisha has a checkered past and her current difficulties include not being able to cook and a fear of leaving her house! Chance has been mooning over Queisha for years from heaven. Tired of Chance’s infatuation with Quiesha. A well meaning angel decides enough is enough and literally pushes Chance from heaven. Chance falls to earth and soon finds himself adopted by Queisha's friend Vivica. Vivica runs a magical employment service. She quickly realizes Chance is an angel and that he would be a good match for Queisha. Vivica mentors him and places Chance with Queisha as a cook and as a temporary co-guardian to the 2 orphaned children. Although being near Queisha feels like paradise to Chance the more time he spends with her the more he places his angelic career and life in jeopardy.

I really loved Chance. I could feel how head over heals he was with Queisha. He longing for her yet knowing she could never be his was very poignant. Queisha was a very easy character to relate to. The only thing I wished was that she had been more proactive a character. Compared to Chance she seemed bland. I did like her vulnerability and her kindness and caring. And I couldn’t help wanting them to be together. I also enjoyed the touching the side story involving the cute little orphaned girls. They needed the stability and love Queisha and Chance gave them. I yearned for them to be a family. But I think Chance's character steals this book. His love for the little girls and Queisha were heartwarming to read. He constantly tries to do the right thing. It was so fun to read how Chance is 'hired' as a cook but doesn't know how and has to learn behind their backs! There was also some tension in the story because although Chance loves Queisha the more time he spends with her the more he puts himself in danger as temptation leads to the slow loss of his angelic self.

Sweet, wacky and fun. Lovers of chick lit and light paranormal romance will savor this book I know any reader would love to have a guardian angel like Chance!

Are you ready for a feel-good book? Then you need to read Annette Blair. And not just Bedeviled Angel, but any of her books will make you laugh and smile in and around the happy but serious lives of her characters. You always feel good once you’ve read the last page.

Chance is an angel assigned to look out for a number of folks who will need him at any give time, but his attention centers on Queisha, the woman he gave his life for. He’d been glad to do it at the time, has no regrets except for maybe the life they could have had together in other circumstances. Sometimes, even for angels, you may get what you wish for, albeit you may also get into a lot of trouble for it.

Pushed from Heaven by a friendly cherub, Chance finds himself ensconced in Queisha’s life just when she needs help the most. Never fully recovered from giving the babies she carried as a surrogate to their parents, unexpected events have now placed the twins in her care. Viveca from Works Like Magick assures Queisha she’ll do fine with the help she’ll send to fill in any gaps caring for the girls.

Of course, it’s Chance who’s sent and that’s when the fun starts. I love Chance. He does his best to be the angel he’s supposed to be, but being near Queisha is very hard him. So much so, he loses feathers around the house during his inappropriate thoughts and feelings about the woman.

Queisha is a terrific heroine. She’s suffered from agoraphobia since the accident eight years before when a young man died saving her life. Now with Chance’s help she’s taking her first steps beyond into a world that frightens her, but she’ll do anything for Skye and Lace.

Every character is this book is charming and full of fun. Though they have to go through heavy-duty things in their lives, they keep an upbeat attitude, don’t let those things get them down for too long. Skye and Lace are especially fun despite their circumstances. Chance builds Queisha’s self-esteem when it comes to being a mother and she’s making all his dreams come true, even though he’ll have to return to his angelic life and face the music for his short time of happiness on Earth.

He must also face the music when Queisha learns who he truly is

Annette Blair is a master at sweeping you from one emotion to the next with the flip of a page. Her humor mixed with life challenges always give you characters with dignity and laced with fun streaks. You can’t help but feel good when you’ve finished one of her books.

This is the 2nd book in Annette Blair's "Works Like Magic Series".

Vivica Quinlan runs the Works like Magic Employment Agency, and helps some unique individuals acclimate to the the town in Salem, MA. She can sense when magical creatures come across dimensions and is the one to find them and help them with necessatry papers and jobs. She's already helped some men who had originaaly been Romans centuries earlier that an evil sorcoress sent them to the alternate dimension as dragons. A good sorcoress isn't as strong, but is able to try and send one at a time back through the dimension to earth... but they must find their 'heart mate' and help them in that person's quest in order to stay.

This time, Vivica chances upon Chance Godrickson at the back door of her friend Queshia's home. Chance is actually Queshia's Guardian Angel, and he has been in love with her the day he sacrificed his life for hers almost 10 years earlier. Queisha is an agoraphobe and won't leave her home, though some big changes are coming her way through the arrival iof twin girls she had been a surrogate mother for 8 years before to help a childless couple, who have just been in a mountain climbing accident.

Chance's fellow Guardian Angel Angus had knocked him off the Cloud up in Heaven to go down and help her through this trial... and to help him with his infatuation of Queshia. Though his wings are hidden in sacks on his back, there's some interesting things that happen with his wings, and one incident in particular had me laughing out loud (as well as Angus)!

This is a very sweet love story that involves a young woman's challenge to try and work through her psychological trauma to help the twins who she had fallen in love with as they were growing in her belly. I fell in love with the twins as Queshia and Angus were helping to take care of the girls who hadn't yet learned exactly what happened to their parents.

Some cameos from Ms Blair's earlier books make appearances, which is a special treat if you've already read The Kitchen Witch; My Favorite Witch; The Scott, the Witch and the Wardrobe; and the Triplate Witch Sisters' trilogy.

Sneak preview of the next book will bring back another of the dragon warriors. Yay! I highly recommend this author's books to anyone who likes a little magic twist and humor with their romance!

This is a tough one to rate as for part of the book is was so sweet, cheesy and schmaltzy that it drove me nuts, but then again those same qualities are what this author does best, this time around it was so hit or miss through the book. The beginning of the book was more miss, but the last half of the book was so much better. I am not sure if it was because by then I got used to it or if the book really was better.

Queisha (hated the name), is such a contrast, at times she was a fun free spirit that you wanted for your best friend, at other times she has so many issues it drives you nuts, but overall you liked her. She was just what was needed for the twins she inherited. Watching her with her sense of wonder and play with them was her saving grace.

I wasn't too sure of Chance from the start, his story didn't make sense and was slightly confusing. Once you got past that he was fun to read, slightly spastic and his whole loosing his feathers, and the whoomping of his wings was hilarious. His interaction with the twins was so great, he would have won over anyone.

Like all of this author's books there were the clever t-shirts with great sayings, this time around they were much more pg oriented and we also had lots of puns with the male anatomy.

Loved it again! I seldom reread books, but I was on page 20 or so when I realized I had read this one earlier. I loved it then, and decided that I'd reread it. It was well worth it. Queisha and Chance's story literally spans heaven and earth, and has earthy parts (a bit of whomping) and is a heavenly read.

Queisha has had a less than desirable life, with both abuse and phobic issues, and Chance is the perfect angel in her life, although she doesn't realize it.

She had a near death experience, and because of that, she was now "living for 2". In pursuit of that goal, she had agreed 6 years earlier to be a surrogate mother. She was named in the parents' will to become the guardian of her birth twins if something untoward happened, and as the parents were both rich and adventurous, when they went missing mountain climbing, the clause in the will became effective. The twin girls became Queisha's responsibility, and since the two also came with their own fortune, money hungry relatives were following closely behind.

Chance's story, how he became Queisha's guardian angel, and came into her life for the 2nd time, is also a heart tweaker.

Annette Blair penned a wonderful tale of love and acceptance, and I think you would really enjoy this heart warming story.

This book wasn't bad, and I knew it was about angels, but how can it be part two of a series when it doesn't actually connect to part one?

I have a minor problem when it comes to series (if I know they are a series), where I read them in order. This way, I know who everybody is and how they belong together. This book, can be read as a stand-alone because the character(s) who were in the first book are either completely reintroduced or barely mentioned.

Now, onto this book. I thought it was interesting having a heroine with agoraphobia. It's actually the first romance I've read where that's been an issue for a main character. And an angel having multicolored wings (with the different colored feathers having different meanings: gold for love, silver for chastity, lavender for hope, etc) was also different.

While I enjoyed the phobia, it seemed "cured" too quickly. I know my own personal phobias (spiders and enclosed spaces) wouldn't be solved by a yellow brick road, but everybody is different, so maybe that's just jealousy on my part.

All in all, a cute book. 3.5 stars, not a 4 because of the no tie-in and too-quick cure.

Chance Godricson saved Queisha's life and died in her place. He has spent the past few years as her guardian angel, falling in love with her more and more every day. When a major upset is coming to Queisha's life, Chance is sent back to earth by his angel friend, Angus. Given a job as Queisha's cook by the Works Like Magick employment agency, Chance woos his lady love, helping her accept her new family and recover from her agoraphobia. Chance is an angel on earth, complete with wings that lose feathers with his emotions and appear at the most inopportune times. This was a magical read. It gave me an entirely new outlook on guardian angels, like City of Angels did with Nicholas Cage. It is an easy and fast read--only 277 pages. I am eager to read her next Works Like Magick book about a vampire dragon. Still hoping to read about Vivica and her dragon bodyguard, Jaydun. What a yummy world Ms. Blair has created! Grab this book and settle back and enjoy Ms. Blair's magical Salem. It will be time well spent.

Umm, what happened. So this is my second book by Blair which is the 2nd in the series. The first book with dragons was whimsical and fun, a little silly but very good over all for the humor it was trying for. This on fell so flat for me.

First it was disjointed and the flow was totally off with the read not sure where anything was going. Yet the overall story of the kids was clear enough. Why he was taken by her, why she was light one moment and in complete freakout the next. The little parts just didn't add up to the whole picture.

Second, there was no chemistry. It starts bad by being disjointed and not understanding the attraction or how deep it is. Then it goes to sudden changes in mood, mode, and discussion.

So I liked the story she was trying to tell but it fell totally flat, the parts that were supposed to be fun or funny seemed forced and the romance was just so/so... or worse.

This was an okay book for what it was - a somewhat formulaic and predictable fluffy paranormal romace story.

Queisha Saint Denis is a quirky, creative agoraphobic who lives alone in a large house on an island where she is solitary, but able to manage her fear of the world. Until the twin girls she carried as a surrogate for a rich couple come back to her because of the parents unexpected death.

Queisa's not sure she's able to be the best parent to the girls, even though she loves them. Enter guardian angel Chance Godricson - hot and has been in love with Queisha from afar for years. He's determined to help her - and of course they end up in bed plenty!

The whole story was really predictable and it didn't really grab me. It was sweet and had the requisite happy ending, but it was all just a bit too pat for me

Sitting in a doctor's office gives you plenty of time to read while you're waiting for them to finish up with your child. This morning, it enabled me to finish up this story. I found it to be more annoying than anything else, as it seemed to follow the same pattern as the first book, just with a different hero and heroine, along with a different problem that had to be addressed. What I liked about this one was the uniqueness of the heroine, especially in the face of her agoraphobia. What I didn't like was the whole "forced" feel of the story. I've read several of the author's other works, and they're humorous without being obvious or forced about it. This series just feels off, as if they weren't really what the author wanted to write. I hate to say it, but I think it will be a while, if ever, I finish the third book in the series.

First, let me say that I'm not overly fond of having an angel for a H or h. At the same time, this one WORKED. How, I don't know. Maybe because the way it was developed. Not sure. Then again, it could have been the humor of his losing feathers all over the place.

That the h discovered her adoptive father was her biological father... and that her adoptive mother didn't take out her resentment on her (which could have happened - it's hard to be rational in the face of a betrayal of that magnitude) added layers.

The twins... poor kids.

I did have a question about the H's surname - Godricson doesn't sound very Irish to me.

When Queisha becomes a surrogate to a jet setting couple she never suspects she will get a return on her gift. That is until the day the twin orphans show up at her front door. Chance is a her guardian angel ever since he gave his life to save hers. Chance has one problem, he has been watching and helping Queisha that he has not been doing a good job for his other charges. What happens when he shows up with the twins and Queisha thinks he been sent by the twins relatives to keep and eye on her more than the twins. What will happen to Chance with two scene-stealing moppets and a women he finds irresistible. Sometimes helping others can be hard on a angel.

Great follow up to Naked Dragon, the first in the Works Like Magic, series. BA was a cute story, I loved the characters, the girls were wonderful additions. I did begin to feel a little claustrophobic during the story. Because Queisha is agoraphobic (can't leave her house) the entire story is told within the confines or her home and yard. That is amazing talent to be able to tell a story in such a small place but I did want the characters to get out into the world a little more. Other than that, great story and I loved the dedication and love between this unconventional family.

very cute, funny, very sweet ending, a little shocking but very sweet. The last 20 or so pages are shocking and sad, but has a happy ending. I like the characters. A little disapointed (or maybe confused) that this was the 2nd book in this series, yet it had nothing to do with the Dragonelli brothers. Only the employment agency & Vivica carried over to this book from the first book (Naked Dragon).

The author did a decent job letting you know what agoraphobia was. There is so much to the phobia- I know. I've suffered from agoraphobia for over for 17 years. other books that have a character with panic disorders tend to not even discuss it other than saying the character has it. Kudos for this author! As for the story, it's your basic romance that makes for a good summer read. I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars, but since she did a good job with the agoraphobia, I'm giving it 3 stars.

This second book was just as fun as the first one. I love the flow and how it all happened. I think I will be reading some of her other series and seeing how they go. The angel wings where fun as was some of the other fun parts. It was interesting to see how things where and how they worked around everything. Fear is strong but was nice to see how she handled it in the book.

I must be seriously pms-ing because this book made me cry, when I KNEW the formula insists that the ending would be a happy one. complete with the baby surprise. whateves, it passed the time. I liked it. It never promised to be anything but a romance novel, so i was not disappointed. plenty of juicy bits, even if they were interrupted by weird wing whompping.

I adored this book. Of course, I cannot imagine what agoraphobia does to a real person, but I loved Queisha and Chance and the little girls. This book is written with so much passion, such real characters, such humor and love. You just have to keep reading.
The descriptions of the house, the many rooms there are, the angelic world. If only it could be real.
