“Reid McGrath is going to see me naked. Who would have thought it?” Polar opposites. Karis and Reid are nothing alike. Where she calculates risks, he takes them. When she looks, he leaps—literally. But somehow, they do work well together—better than well, because oddly, they seem to complement each other. They’re great work colleagues. They’re great friends. Could they be great at something more? Can Reid give up roaming around the world, looking for adventure? Can Karis let go of her control a little, to take a chance? Sometimes, your happy ending can’t be planned, coordinated, and calculated…but it’s there, if you can let go and reach for it!
I have really enjoyed Jamie Bennett's books, but sometimes she goes way too far in the tragic heroine direction. The H never seems to legitimately care for the h. It's always about him deciding whether he can draw away from the lifestyle of the OW. I felt almost sick of behalf of this h. The H came to her late in the book and I felt like the OW would always be the most exciting relationship in his life.

The beginning of this was really good, probably because I liked the set up and related to Karis, hard. But then the second half starting falling apart a bit for me. I started thinking maybe Reid and Karis weren't right for each other. Maybe they were too different and if Reid gave up his wanderlust he would grow to resent Karis. And I didn't get the sense that Reid was falling in love with Karis in the second half, which he supposedly was. He seemed like he cared for her as a friend, but nothing more, until, you know, he did.
Some people feel trapped by the ordinary or the predicable. For these people, the fear of missing out on some bigger brighter thing, or experience, drives them to taking a chance over being prudent every time.
Other people fear chaos and the unknown; sudden change without clear boundaries and structure is terrifying. (I call these folks "the rules keep us safe" crowd. These are my people and we are having t-shirts printed up as soon as we can agree on a font.)
Reid (our hero) loves trying new foods and changing things up every single day. The super annoying acronym FOMO was created with him in mind. His past lifestyle was ever changing and chaotic in the extreme.
Karis (our heroine) is a spunky and caring but hypercautious young woman. She feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, because she does. She has lived her entire life without any feeling of stability. She is not willing to give up the comfort of what she knows, even when what she knows is bad for her.
I loved both Karis and Reid. I liked how the characters grew towards each other, giving them a more balanced life together than what they each had when they were apart. They just made each other better people, which is the best type of romance.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys contemporary romances.
Not my favorite but it was okay. Comfort food reading. You know what you were going to get. However was the heroine with someone like her father??? Would the hero be with the heroine if he did not have his accident?? He did like the adventure that Jerrica brought to his life before his accident? Jerrica is the OW.

Another great story of a heroine finding herself (and a hero too this time), with a slow, back-burner romance along for the ride. I enjoyed the heroine's personality quirks and how goofy she acted around the hero (at times). Also had some of the subtle but clear (to the reader, not the heroine) moments of jealousy from the hero that I love.
Spoilers/For those it matters to: the H has an on/off girlfriend for a significant part of the book, while he and the heroine are friends/co-workers. There are no on-page love scenes between him and the OW (and only one brief one for the main couple, that I can recall.) 3.75 ⭐️
"I am plowing through all of these books, and each time I am sure I won’t love a story, I end up loving it." That is exactly how I feel.
I went into this book without knowing one thing about it, because after reading so many book by Jamie I trust she is going to conquer me in the first pages. And obviously she did.
I loved how this book reflected in what people fear and how that fear is different for everyone. Karis feared change and Reid feared being stuck in the same routine.
The mathematic and the whole family dynamic was pretty good too.
It pains me to give such a low reading to a book by this author but I didn’t enjoy this one. Her female characters are usually so strong. Karis was not. She couldn’t speak up for herself and she was just a typical doormat. I also hate adult virgin storylines. Not only was she a virgin, but she had no friends and was socially just off. Based on the limited physical descriptions provided, the image of her in my mind was not a good one which diluted the already weak romance. The romance was mostly weak because for much of the book it seemed Reid was still in love with Jerrica. Falling for Karis seemed unrealistic and when he did hint at his feelings, it felt more like he was settling for Karis. It seemed that Karis was his second choice. Lastly, I am bothered by the last dramatic obstacle they faced at the end when Jerrica posted the picture of Karis along with the original-yet-deleted-before-Jerrica-even-knew-who-Karis-was dating profile!!!! It made no sense. This author is still maybe favorite but this book is a dud.
I am plowing through all of these books, and each time I am sure I won’t LOVE a story, I end up loving it. I keep reading all the blurbs and this one I passed over at first and read Ione’s story. Then these two were mentioned I had to go back. If you like real life characters with real families that aren’t perfect, all of Bennett’s books are for you. Yet don’t think you will have to sacrifice chemistry to get that realistic feeling, Karis warmed my heart because she is someone who works hard and is slightly awkward and quirky, someone who I would want to be friends with. Her problems with her mom and dad seem unsolvable, but somehow the books has a satisfying and not unbelievable ending. I guess I am talking about the side characters a lot, but the romance is one of my favorite storylines - a love that seems unrequited yet isn’t. *sigh all the sighs*
The FMC was so painfully introverted and awkward and it just never seems to end. She seems like she might be on a spectrum.
I really couldn’t take how obsessed the FMC was with the MMC for so long especially when he was gallavanting around the globe with another woman. Have some self-respect and move on! Oh, and we never really learned what he did with that woman when she was visiting.
I just was never really sold on the MMC and he gave me the ick.
This book is hard to describe. It was a book you highlight and send to your friends saying this! This is how I feel. And laughs? I read parts out loud to my husband and he laughed and said the author has a way with words. So from one Jaime to another I enjoyed this book and pacing very much.
I all fall in love with Ms. Bennett's characters. She writes real people with all of their flaws so well, because what her characters see as their flaws turn out to be the good stuff; the chacteristics that make them uniquely human. I feel like she writes true stories, which is why I love her fictional stories so, so much.
I just devoured this book today. Another one of Jamie's books I love. The genius heroine was so relatable and loveable, social awkwardness and calculations were a bonus. And Reid.... swoon. Loved these characters.
I am not a big fan of the one sided crush genre.. the book is not bad.. I read it start to finish witch is more than i can say of some books this week. a solid effort that was engrossing but still didn't love it.
