Despite my low rating, this is actually a very informative and colourful start to learning more about a few real-life pirates, including the surprise inclusion of some female pirates which the entire world has forgotten exists. If it isn't a white man, it's not worth noticing. Even though a lot of pirates were Spanish and very much not white.

Anyway, it's a good start but the low rating comes because it indulged a little too much in fiction and wasn't written as well as I've come to expect a lot of children's books to be written. Still a grand start in such an interesting and very mis-understood part of history.

You will be the mistress of treasure maps if you own this lush and romantically ornate writing kit. It already includes everything you'll ever need on the high seas....! Already thoughtfully provided are pirates' code making instructions, some stationary, luxurious postcards, even sticker sheets, and you can tuck it away in its provided case. I love using and having all of these Ologies! I think that they are great for kids, students, and letter writers!
