"The Peter Pan standing in front of me does not have an inviting smile or a cute little fairy flying by his shoulder. He has not shown me an ounce of kindness, and definitely has not offered me to play a game of treasure hunt. He is not the innocently playful twelve-year-old boy I had imagined him to be. Instead, he is a teenager with a blood-stained dagger and a fire in his eyes that leads me to believe that everything the fairy tales told me about him was a lie."
Kit was just trying to have a nice night at prom when her life was flipped upside down. Now she is stuck in Neverland and Peter Pan is telling her she is the reason his island is dying. All she wants is to go home, but all Peter wants is for Neverland to return to normal. Kit is going to be thrown into stories she has never taken seriously before and realize that her life is more intertwined with them than she would like for it to be. Familiar characters will show their true colors and Kit will have to figure out that sometimes the most of beloved fairytale characters turn out to be the worst villains.

When most people think of Peter Pan, the image of a green-clad cheerful scamp flying through the forest with a fairy by his side pops to mind. He’s mischievous and childlike but relatively harmless, right? Welp, take that idea and toss it out the window, because this Peter Pan is the opposite. Sharp and dangerous, he’s like the edge of youth where you feel invincible and wild. The main character, Kit, is kidnapped and then caught up in Pan’s Neverland, a world where mermaids want to kill you, trust seems impossible, and curses are real. When Kit discovers she has deep connections to Neverland and emerald-eyed Peter, things become increasingly complicated. With plot twists and turns to keep you on the edge of your seat, Stolen By Pan is an excellent read for anyone who loves a good twisted fairy tale.

As you may or may not, I’ve read many Peter Pan retellings. My goal is to read each one that I stumble upon, and though a reiteration I’ve read countless times, Stolen by Pan managed to grab my interest. I’ll never say no to a retelling where Peter Pan is sold as this villainous character, ready to kidnap the main character for obscure reasons. And when the reason is that Kit—said main character—is the reason Neverland is in danger, and Peter is ready to do anything to save it, I am listening.

"Who knew Neverland was so close," I say to myself but, it is loud enough for Peter to hear.
"It's only an effort of imagination away," he replies almost in a whisper, and for the first time, I actually feel like I'm in a fairytale world—a place where others would love to be.

The one thing I’m judging the most, whenever I start a new Peter Pan retelling, is how fair of an actual retelling it is. Does it have similar plotlines? Are the characters faithful to Barrie’s? Are there any hidden references? And sadly, for Stolen by Pan, every answer is a big no. The plot is completely distinct from the novel. Peter is the alternate version of an alternate version of the original one, and I couldn’t find any similarities to the Lost Boy we know and love (and don’t tell ME you can’t make a dark twist of the original character). The subtle references I could find weren’t even from the novel, but more from live adaptations. I think this book was born as a fanfiction of the Once Upon A Time version of Peter Pan, and as much as I’ve read my fair share of those, it absolutely does not translate well in a novel format.

Now, in itself, it could still be a good story, if not a good retelling. But I felt like the book was dragging for way too long. The pacing doesn’t have any rhythm, very slow pages ending really intense scenes happening in the flash of an eye. So many scenes felt absolutely unnecessary (honestly, we didn’t need THAT many pages about Kit’s life before Neverland, especially with the lack of relevance they had on the story). The plot felt overly complicated, and I think it would have been way more interesting if the author hadn’t bothered with the different magical worlds. Though some plot twists towards the end were well constructed, I still couldn’t bring myself to react to them because at this point I was just uninterested and uninvested in the story.

"Why are you always up so early?" I ask him. "I never see you sleep." Peter turns to me, and the green of his eyes is bright like a meadow.
"Neverland is too amazing to sleep while it's awake, Kit."

What completely lost me was the writing itself. There were a lot of typos that I can forgive because the book was self-published (I think). I can understand even the best proofreaders can’t catch them all without editorial background. But some entire sentences were very awkwardly worded and lost all their meaning. I paid this book with my hard-earned money, and *“I wish my mind would be as calm as Neverland… but then again there is nothing calm about Neverland.”* is NOT a sentence I want on my shelves (yes, this is an actual quote, and yes, it’s one of many). And of course, I can’t forget all of the actual plot holes on the page (for example, a Lost Boy being grazed by an arrow dipped in the deadliest poison that is supposed to kill in minutes but still being fine in later scenes).

There’s some kind of attempt at a world building, with different magical worlds, and some kind of magic system, but the explanation on why and how is just “trust me”. Nothing is ever explained and it was absolutely infuriating. For example (and to avoid any spoiler), we know for a fact the story Peter Pan that we know is also canon in this universe. Which means, there has to be some kind of explanation on how the real world managed to find out this secret (or part of it). At this point in a retelling, there’s always some kind of explanation: J.M. Barrie was a Lost Boy, some Lost Boys grew up and spread the legends, Peter itself spread its story… But in this book it’s NEVER explained, or barely grazed. And in the context of a fanfiction, I wouldn’t care, because I know how it works in Once Upon A Time. But once again: it is a PUBLISHED book. I deserve to have some kind of explanation even if I didn’t know anything about the original story.

I've fallen in love with a boy who has taken my life away from me. I don't
recognize myself anymore. I'm not the same Kit I was when I arrived in Neverland. I'm not supposed to love Peter Pan, someone so different from me, someone I used to resent more than anything. I'm crying because I know it will never be the same. I've lost a battle I've been internally fighting since the first time he made me laugh.
That stupid boy. He's won again.

Kit is the most insufferable character I’ve ever read about. I can forgive anything from anyone if it’s written well (hell, I even forgave Peter for the same flaw), but I cannot stand someone who is self-centered and never evolves. Kit always thinks of herself before others, and while this same characteristic is addressed with the Lost Boy, it’s NEVER shown as a flaw on Kit’s part. She constantly lies and never acts unless it’s in her direct interest, even if it’s for the sake of someone she considers a friend. Her only ally is banished from Peter’s camp because of actions Kit willingly took in full conscience, and she never tries to divulge the truth (until, of course, it comes back to bite her in the ass). And it’s not a one time occasion: it is CONSTANT. Her character doesn’t know how to walk in a world without being horrible to all of her friends. I annotated the book and the thing I complained the most in the margins was how big a liar she was. Plot-armour makes everyone around her forgive her, but I’m shocked no one tried to kill her before the big antagonist.

Peter is the most cliché version of all the dark alternatives I’ve read of him. He’s clearly inspired by one of my all times favorite versions, the Once Upon A Time one, but lacked all of the charisma and the playfulness he’s supposed to have. If I had to sum it up: he acts way too much like an adult. The author did try to add some bloody games of Peter’s doing, which kind of helped, but overall he was just acting like any man would.

"I don't think I've ever seen you so happy before," I say. Peter takes my chin, tilts my head up, and leans his forehead against mine. The proximity causes my heart rate to increase.
"I think I've found my happy thought," he whispers and more magic swirls between our ankles, as if it's dancing for us.

Maybe I could have appreciated a little bit more this story if I randomly found it on a fanfiction website, but as a published book, it’s just not to my taste. I see many great ratings and I’m glad so many people found ways to enjoy this story, but just the thought of dragging myself to read TWO whole books set in this universe brings me shivers. I will not continue this series, and if you ever want other (better) Peter Pan retellings with similar vibes, I’ll be happy to provide.

A great read! It did take me a little while to get through and the beginning was slow but it really picked up with so many twists and turns at the end and left with a cliff hanger. I will definitely want to read the rest of the series.

This is a twisty one! It starts in a contemporary setting before whisking Kit, the main character, away to Neverland. Peter Pan is a confusing mystery - alternately stern, angry, and gentle, and Kit is unsure how she feels about him. I was too! No spoilers here, just be prepared for plot twists near the end! :)

I stumbled upon this book at my local library, Stolen by Pan and picked it because the author was local! I am so glad I did, I absolutely could not put the book down. I always love a good fairytale spin off, and this was a great read! Peter Pan was the villain in the series and I loved it! This book also has an enemy-lovers tale. Jessi Ramey pulled you in as if you knew each of the characters and you were in Neverland with them! This is the first book of the trilogy and I’m starting the second one today!! I cannot wait to see where the next book takes me! The third one will be released in September! If you love a good fairytale retelling this is the book for you!

Think about what you know of Peter Pan, Neverland, Hook, and the Lost Boys; throw it all out because you don’t know this version.
Kit was trying to have a nice night at prom and it just went downhill when her life was flipped upside down.
If you love fairy tales you will love this VERY different version. There is enough plot twists to keep you interested and wanting to jump onto the next book right after you finish!

I picked up this book with the idea of it being something my 4th grader and I could both read and enjoy talking about together. I really didn’t expect the story to capture my attention as much as it did! My son is already half way through the book after two days. The storyline is a mix of current day and mythical characters colliding. There is mild teenager drama and young love in the story, which I think broadens the readership audience even more.

This book was surprisingly captivating. I read this book after several of my 7th grade students insisted I read this book. The book was nothing like I expected. Stolen by Pan takes everything you thought you knew about Neverland and turns it upside down. It is a must-read for anyone who loved the story of Peter Pan as a child.

Ok, I'm extremely biased, but I always loved the story of peter Pan, and this book was granted my childhood dream! I love how both kit and peter were typically keeping things from each other, and the foreshadowing the author was about to sprinkle throughout the story! Highly highly recommend if you wanted to run away to neverland!

I’m obsessed. The writing was just okay, but the plot?!?! I’m honestly so surprised this book isn’t more popular. The way she blended Neverland and the story of Peter Pan with so many other fairy tales and created this whole magical universe was so creative! I can’t wait to pick up the next one in the series. HIGHLY recommend!

Do I love it? No. Do I hate it? No. It’s definitely has a few good twists and turns, a cute love story (the way I squealed at some of the lines tho!!). It’s not what I expected but I’m not mad at it. I’m excited to see what the second book does!

Wow I was not expecting to love this as much as I did. I almost DNFed in the first few chapters but I'm so glad I stuck with it. The writing might not always be the best, but the story had me completely sucked in to where I couldn't put it down. If you're going to write a Peter Pan story, you better get imaginative with your Neverland, and Ramey 100% did that. I was fully immersed in her Neverland and loved her creativity in building the world.

This book is getting to experience running around Neverland with the Lost Boys, playing games and telling stories by the fire and fighting pirates and visiting mermaids and basically everything you could want from a Peter Pan book.

I also really appreciated the romance in this. I loved how naturally Kit and Peter's relationship unfolded throughout the story. It felt realistic to me, like two people slowly growing from enemies to friends to lovers. And I loved how Neverland slowly became home to Kit, and the Lost Boys family. It warmed my Peter Pan-loving heart and left a giddy smile on my face for so much of my reading experience.

This was SO MUCH FUN and I definitely recommend it if you're a fan of Peter Pan or wanted more from the Neverland season of Once Upon a Time. Sitting between a 4.75 and 5 stars, because despite any issues, I keep thinking about it and wanting to reread it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️FIVE STARS FOR YOU! FIVE STARS FOR YOU⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Oh. my. gosh. This book was soooo good. 😭❤️ It was EXACTLY what I wanted. It was an amazing enemies-to-lovers story. I love how the author used different fairytales and changed them to fit the story! Wonderland actually being Neverland? BRILLIANT. And the book started out as a OUAT Peter Pan fanfic! I love Robbie Kay’s Peter Pan

I live for PeterxKit moments. Holding her during the storm to calm her, holding her hand when she talked about her nightmares, AND DON'T SAY oh he was using his magic… Mhm. Ok. I wanted them to get together through the whole book😭

Pg 99
"Do you suppose she has Siren magic?" I wonder out loud. A Siren was my initial thought when I first met Kit at that ridiculous dance I followed her to. Her earth-toned hair and honey-colored eyes caught me off guard. The music seemed to fade into the background when she made eye contact with me - only for a second though. Sirens are known for enchanting men, making then pause and become fools. Once in a while, when I'm least expecting it, and when Kits eyes meet mine, I feel that pause."

I found it hilarious how Peter thought Kit was a siren cause he didn't know why else he'd be stunned by her looks😂

Pg 194
"What if she doesn't want to come back with us?" Knox asks with his hand raised above him. He still has the habit of raising his hand like we are in school."
Pg 195
"We all know that as soon as the hour is up and I enter the playing field, they don't stand a chance.
"Am I allowed to be on your team?" Zig asks, earning him a smack around the back of the head from Walter"

I love Slightly. And Zig and Knox are hilariously adorable😂

Pg 193
"I turn back to the beach just in time to see Hook reach out and grab Kit by the wrist with his hook. He yanks her forward, and air leaves my body. Several of the boy's flinch. Knox is even quick enough to pull his crossbow out and take aim."

I also love how all the Lost Boys adopted Kit as another one of them. Taking care of her, keeping her company. Protecting her. They're all like protective brothers and I love it.

Pg 148
"His eyes stay on me, but he keeps fearfully glancing at the approaching clouds. There is no comfort in his voice, only panic. I think of the last storm I created when Peter was focused on me and held me until it was all over. It was as if we were the only two people on the island. He knew exactly what to do; he was confident he could calm me down. Even without his magic, the calmness in him was enough. He was grounded when I was out of control, and ur acted as my anchor when I needed it most. Now with Nibs, I feel like a freak of nature because he is too scared to even touch me."

Pg 151
"He pauses and equates his hook, forcing me to lift my chin more. I wish he would shut up, but I know better than to say that out loud. " The fire in his eyes when I threatened your life last time you were here; I had never seen anything like that in him before."
