If Stephanie Fields was asked to describe herself, she’d say she was ordinary, calm and cautious. Her quiet life was exactly as she wanted it to be, or so she thought, until a mysterious stranger entered her shop. He had a knack for drawing her out of herself, for pushing her buttons, for making her feel... But now, just when life was getting interesting, someone was stalking her.

Nicky Charles

Nicky Charles is an independent writer/publisher who became an author quite by accident. She always saw herself as a ‘reader not a writer’ and can thank—or blame, depending on the day—her friend/editor and fellow author, Jan Gordon, for the career she now finds herself immersed in. The tale goes something like this:

In January of 2009, Nicky penned a fanfiction for an old TV series, “Scarecrow and Mrs. King”, and soon became ‘hooked’ on story telling. She joined a fan-based group for the show and through there met Jan Gordon. It was an idle comment made by Jan during a review of Black Silk (Jan’s newly published book) that inspired Nicky to write her first original story. Over the course of the next two months, she hastily scribbled down a suspense driven romance entitled Forever In Time and presented it to the world in August of 2009. Soon after, she wrote The Mating, a paranormal romance and followed it up with The Keeping and The Finding. The three stories formed a loose paranormal trilogy called The Law of the Lycans. Nicky continues to expand the Lycan series and has a long list of possible plots waiting in the wings.

Nicky works full-time and writes in her off-hours, few though they may be! In the next few years she hopes to retire from her day job and concentrate more of her energy on her new passion of writing.

When she writes, Nicky sees the story unfolding in her head like a movie and tries to include enough detail so that readers can ‘see’ the story just as she does. The sights, sounds, smells and sensations of a scene are almost as important to her as the actual plot.

Creating main characters that are ‘real’ is also something she strives for. Nicky tries to make each character different, to give them an interesting back story, to make their actions and feelings logical and to hopefully make the reader actually care what happens to the people in the story.

Nicky lives in Canada and tries to stick to Canadian spelling and punctuation in her work, in support of her country. She is an avid supporter of animal shelters, nature conservancy, food banks and a variety of other charities. Currently she has two ‘inside’ cats and one official ‘outside’ cat though a number of strays seem to take up residence in her garden each year.

When not writing, Nicky enjoys reading – though she often bemoans that she seldom has time for it any more. Her favourite authors are Elizabeth Peters, S.C. Stephen and Cherise Sinclair. She also enjoys spending time out in nature, gardening, taking day trips and eating dark chocolate.

I just... wow. I didn't expect any of that. I mean, there were so many times I found myself wanting to smash my head against the wall as I screamed "WHAT ARE YOU DOING STEPHANIE, DON'T BE AN IDIOT!!" but I never predicted the way that the story would unfold. I feel like I have to go back and re-read it just to catch all the times when I thought it was Jake's POV, though it was really Jarrod.
The problem with this book is that a lot of people may not hold on and stay with it all the way through, they might drop it as soon as it becomes evident that Stephanie is an apparent idiot who is going to hook up with her abuser and they will come off thinking that the author is somehow condoning or fetishizing that. It's a big risk that the author took, but ultimately it was worth it. I only wish that the paranormal aspect had been worked a little better into the plot... but I guess it couldn't have been done without giving away too much at the beginning about Jake's true identity.

Quite a rollercoaster ride, I have to say.

This book started out slow...had some pretty sweet twists...became surprisingly good towards the middle...and then crashed and burned at the end.

Disappointed with the direction this went in and how quickly everything was concluded like it was an episode from scooby doo or something. Kept waiting for the stalker to say "and I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for you meddling kids!"

It was an easy read and I can't complain too much since it was free. Do I recommend it...eh, probably not.

Incredible! I can't believe this book has so few reviews. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time trying to determine who was the 'good guy' vs the 'bad guy.' You really should read it!

I've really come to like this author, after reading The Mating and The Keeping. While I prefer that series over this book, I did think the premise was really interesting. Based on the title I assumed the story involved time travel, but that's not really the case. She definitely keeps you guessing. The ending lends itself well to this becoming a series.

I read this book a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed the story. The concept was original and flowed at a good pace. If you want an epic love story without the epic hours you would need to invest then Forever In Time is a good choice, its 61,000 words of pure reading bliss.

It was nice to see Nicky Charles take a step away from the Lycan series. Again, this author has such a way of bringing these characters to life. Wonderful book to read.

Hmm. I hated this book the first time through, which was a couple weeks ago. Until somewhere in the second half when I’d sorted out what was going on. It’s sort of a mash up of a romance and a thriller. I like romances a lot. I read them for rather than in spite of their predictability and guaranteed HEAs. I’m not a huge thriller fan though I read them now and again.

In this the author deliberately sets out to keep you confused as to who the bad guy is. She lets you into the hero’s thoughts early and often but makes him sound like the villain. And, to be honest, a lot of romance heroes are controlling jerks who might be considered abusive in real life. It’s just that we all... authors and readers sort of agree to suspend disbelief and see the heroes as wounded and protective or whatever. Because the authors make their motivations clear or otherwise write them in some way that makes their controlling or abusive behavior acceptable or something. Or some writers write decent heroes who are celebrated for not being possessive and controlling jerks.

This story puts you in the hero’s head but let’s him sound possessive and stalker-y and controlling and just scary until it’s seriously uncomfortable being in his head. You also get to be in the heroine’s head as she falls for the hero and trusts him instinctively even as she’s being stalked by someone who could easily be the hero.

I actually figured out the plot device early on, but still had trouble sorting out the hero passages from the villain passages because the hero sounded so bad. Later as the hero shows more through his actions than his thoughts that the heroine’s instincts may not be misplaced and I came to like him better I thought I should perhaps go back and reread to see if it changed my impressions any now that I knew how it all turned out and didn’t have to worry about the plot anymore. Then I decided it would be a waste of time because the author had written the hero’s thoughts in such a way as to deliberately confuse the reader and even knowing who was who and what the outcome was, I figured I wouldn’t like the hero any better through the first half of the book. So I left it.

If I’d rated it then I probably would have given it two stars. I didn’t even add it to my Goodreads list. I’d skimmed a lot of it just to get through.

So it’s sort of interesting to me that a few weeks later I did go back to it and did decide to reread it. I hadn’t even liked it much and something made me pick it up again. Most of the time you’re not in the heroine’s head you’re in the hero’s head. You’re only in the actual villain’s head a few times. And the hero’s thoughts don’t read any better for knowing the outcome. He comes across as stalker-y and controlling and it’s almost worse knowing it’s the hero’s thoughts you’re reading. I could tolerate it only because I wasn’t fully swept up in the story...during either read, I guess. I felt both times like I was reading a writing experiment by the author who was trying to be clever in confusing the reader about who the good and bad guys were. So I guess the author took the blame in my mind for the hero’s coming off like a jerk for the first half of the book, rather than the hero. The first time through I skimmed most of his thoughts. The second time through I read them, but frequently rewrote them in my head to what they might have been if this had been written as pure romance. Even then it forced me to examine my willingness to tolerate behavior from a fictional hero I’d be unlikely to tolerate in real life, so it definitely doesn’t make it as a pure escapist book since I couldn’t just set aside reality and escape. Yet I came back and spent all that time rereading it. And will maybe reread it again because there was something in the relationship I did like, something that did appeal to me. I think it was in the hero’s actions toward the heroine. His thoughts aren’t fun to share, especially at the beginning. But he’s actually pretty gentle with, sweet toward, and protective of (in a mostly reasonable and non-jerky way) the heroine.

An altogether odd reading experience.

Forever in time

Once again the author has written a great love story. I enjoyed the lengths that Jake went through to find his true love Stephanie. Their love endured the test of time. I enjoyed this story as well as all the Lycan tales.

Beberapa hari belakangan ini sering banget baca buku tentang reinkarnasi, yah ga sengaja juga sih. Forever in Time salah satunya.

Forever in Time is a deceptively creepy tale of a man stalking his former foster sister after they’ve become adults living on their own. Author Nicky Charles provides both points of view: the clueless victim’s and that of the guy following her around town watching her every move.

Here’s an example of the range of puzzlement I suffered as I read this book: Does heroine Stephanie’s new boyfriend Jake have DID (Dissociative Identity Disorder, formerly called a “split personality”)? Jack, Jarrod, Jake. Why so many “J” names? Wait, is Jake a vampire?

About halfway through, the plotline starts to look like a bad soap opera. Would someone Or did he....?

Initially I subtracted one rating star when I got to the end of the free Feedbooks version only to learn it was an abbreviated preview. I had to go buy the full ebook from Amazon since none of my available libraries carry the writer. Nobody likes feeling baited, Ms. Charles.

But later...I gave the star back once I realized I didn’t see Forever in Time's amazing denouement coming. It’s an excellent feint with . Brava, Ms. Charles.

After reading Black Silk by Jan Gordon, and reading about this author as a result of it, I wanted to read one of her books. I am always iffy about starting a new series with an author I have never read before so I usually try to start out with a stand-alone first. That's why I read this book instead of the first in her series. Of course once I set my mind to read this, it was very difficult to find it. I am really glad that I did.

Having said that, I will say that I really liked this book. A lot. Though there were some parts that I am not too sure about. No matter how it was explained at the end, Jake still came across to me as a creepy stalker. Yes, he was stalking Stephanie for a reason but it was still creepy to me.

I admit to knowing that Jake wasn't the "bad guy" (so to speak) before I started reading because I made the mistake of scrolling down the reviews on this site and one person who did NOT mark theirs has having spoilers stated that he wasn't. My fault for scrolling down, I guess. It didn't take away (much) from the story, though I would have liked to have had that "what if?" factor with the book.

I look forward to reading more books from this author.

The most important of these is....

After reading Nicky Charles' Law of the Lycans series, there is little chance of resisting any other Nicky Charles book. Her characters are admirable. They are loyal and they are unforgettable. In Forever in Time there are no surprises. Damien Masterson is back. We met him, up close and personal in Bonded where he lost his wife, Beth, to a senseless death instigated by hate mongers. Consequently, Damien sentences himself to a life without love. He vowed to that he would never forget (Beth). After three years of self imposed isolation he learned that there was more to Beth's message. In his grief he had not heard the full message: "never forget to love."
Thank you Ms. Charles for sharing your gift of writing. Thank you for gifting us with Law of the Lycans: Bonded; Betrayed; The Mating;
The Keeping; The Finding. Thank you for remembering love. Thank you for returning light to a place of darkness.

Interesting concept for this story.

I'll be honest, I flipped to the end mid-way through to check and make sure that the hero wasn't who we are led to believe he is. The author does a great job of misleading the reader ... but the offending character is so vile that I would not have continued to read the book if he turned out to be the hero. So maybe she's too good.

Nicky Charles creates an interesting world of Aliens and people -- so that was very interesting. Not something I would continue reading because I don't like Alien romance, but still interesting and different.

I am happy that Nicky Charles is focusing on the werewolf series instead of this ... but still this was a good read.

I enjoy Nicky's books so much!
This has a paranormal theme.. and the explanation for how Jake can do some stuff, does not happen till near the end of the book.. I will not ruin it for you☺
It is a love story but there is an undercurrent of sadness ... again you will have to read it find out what I mean..
This is well written because the reader is lead down many paths but our conclusions are rarely correct.

She has had a hard life .. lonely and filled with turmoil..
He is excited about finding her but he must approach her slowly and let her invite him into her life...
but someone else has found her and he does not like sharing!

This was a really interesting book.
When I was reading the first half of the story, I was thinking, "uh. another love story. boring" but I was wrong.
It was a love story but there's a really good twist.
The stalker part where 2 men looked the same.
Really thought he was the stalker.. yada yada..
But prior to my reading of Lauren Kate's Fallen series, the last part of the story was like the story of the Fallen series, where one is born and reborn into another life, but still, I think this one needs a sequel. haha. :))

This starts out to be an interesting mystery involving attention grabbing characters. The suspense and different dramas keeping you turning the pages. Wondering if Jake or Jack is Steph's true love or wanting to cause her harm. The story continues with science fiction and mythology. Everything I love in a book! This is one book Nicky could of expanded on and added a few more chapters. Throw more of the mythology into the relationship. Really, that is a lot for a woman to take in and have to deal with someone trying to scare her or even worse.

This was such a nice vacation read! ^^ The suspence was amazing! And the plot twist surprised me (slightly, because I was stupid to read a review x')).

I didn't really like the characters of this story though. Jake was too perfect, but since I had suspicions I didn't grow to like him at first. Stephanie was more likeable, but she seemed a little foolish to me. A little bit too made or a little weak. I don't know whether the writer of this book is male or female, but I'm guessing male. x'D Anyway, I DID enjoy the story, somehow.

Excellent read.

Nicky keeps you thinking and wondering if there are two different people or if one person is both bad and good.

Stephanie Fields feels she is being followed.

Jake Sinclair has waited a long time to find Stephanie.

Jarrod Simpson had a grudge against Stephanie since she reported

him and he was hauled off to jail after attacking her at the foster home

they lived in together.

Is Jake and Jarrod one person?

Stephanie lacks trust to begin with.

Free ebook: She is a good writer, keeps the story interesting.
Stephanie is a 27 yr old virgin who owns a flower shop, falling for a mysterious new man in town who is pursuing her while at the same time she is being stalked and threatened by someone. This starts out to be an ordinary mystery suspense drama that turns into science fiction and mythology with reincarnation thrown in for good measure.

I would actually give this 2.5 stars. It did a good job of bringing me into the story, and I got caught in the web that the story wove. However, something that is revealed at the end has almost no foreshadowing until almost halfway through the book, and by that point the reader is so engrossed in the world that it feels unbelievable. By the end when all was revealed, I could only smirk. It's too bad, since otherwise it was a decent read.

It was sweet. Love the characters and obviously it set itself up for another story if Nicky chooses to do so.
The story was predictable at every turn though was really well written and really sweet.
This was a difficult story to find. And ended up having to look at where it was published. It was nice (as always) that it was free and easily down loaded into my I-books.
Am a big fan of Nicky Charles and look forward to reading what's next!
