These books are wonderful introductions to Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art for babies/toddlers. The text is clever, and the image selection is quite good in all but the Matisse book, which includes two nudes (why would it be appropriate to include nudes in a book for babies/toddlers?!). I super-glued the four pages containing nudes together, and now I really like the Matisse book, too (I think Dancing with Degas is my favorite). There are several other books in this series (e.g., Quiet Time with Cassatt , and Sunday with Seurat ) that I also plan to purchase.

4.5 I saw these at the Philadelphia Museum of Art about 10 years ago. I loved the idea of having children's books made of various famous artworks, since one of the most important things about a good children's book is to have interesting pictures, and getting young kids familiar with famous art is awesome! I didn't end up buying them (probably because I was far from having kids), but it was one of those non-purchases that I thought about a lot after, and felt like I missed the opportunity. Then my mom went to Philly a few years later and I mentioned that if she visited the Museum, please grab one or two of the books. She ended up grabbing them all, which made me so happy. I saved them for years and finally now have a daughter I can read them to.

The books are really cute, but I feel like the writing could have been a bit better and the stories more coherent, just because another super important component of a good children's book is to make them interesting to the adult too, as they have to read it over and over and over.

Adorable! <3

I love the little poems that go with the paintings. It's the perfect book to read to the kids after a day in the museum. I don't know if babies and toddlers would appreciate it, but older kids certainly will. One can even use this to encourage them to write poems about paintings by other artists.

I love these books! My son loves them too. They add a little poem to each painting and make a story by combining these famous paintings. Very cultural for kids. And they're board books-sturdy and come in a nice box to keep them nicer.

There are "nude" bodies in two of the pictures. One is of them dancing and they are "artistic" and not graphic at all. But just a warning to those who are concerned.

Board books of quality art. Include a rhyming story to go with the images. Great vocabulary and my kids all loved them.
