Fierce, whirling winds make tornadoes the most powerful storms on Earth. Twisters can strike at any time or any place around the world. Without warning, they can wipe out entire towns in a matter of minutes. In this book, you’ll see why tornadoes are totally twisted, how they happen, what damage they cause, and how to stay safe from one!

UMHB Library & I like tornadoes, so I just looked up a book about it
Grades 5-8
• The topic of the book is about specific tornadoes that could be classified as the top 10 worst tornadoes in recorded history.
• The topic is presented almost like what I would describe a case file. The pictures are tilted at an angle and all throughout the page while each section describes a different tornado.
• There are sidebars that give more information about the scale used, primary sources cited as eyewitness accounts, glossary & index.
• This could be used with children when talking about a natural disaster in a science class or if a book is being read in history or English class mentions a tornado then it could be used as a reference. I would also use this in a science class before we talked about tornadoes as a Segway to see if they could create their own ‘tornado’ in a control setting.
