Almost two years since the Uprising, the world has drastically changed. Sophia has taken up the mantle of the world’s champion superhero Freedom. However due to her cryptic message to the United Nations the world is divided in regards to her role in it. To some, she is a beacon of hope, while others see her as a new global threat they must find a way to deal with. The aftermath of Peace’s attempted takeover of the planet has given rise to superhuman boosting and genetic hate groups. In the midst of new chaos and global tensions, a sinister plan is being hatched against the inhabitants of Earth amongst the stars, while an ancient evil has been released slowly gaining strength and making his own plans for world domination. From the mind of Kipjo Ewers comes the next chapter in The First series. Genesis promises to give birth to many revelations. When all is said and done, not only will EVO Universe will never be the same …it might not survive.
Kipjo K. Ewers was born July 1, 1975. At an early age, he had an active imagination. By the time he started kindergarten he would make up fictitious stories, one of his favorites was about a character named “Old Man Norris,” who hated everyone in the world except for him.
When he attended our Lady of Victory Elementary school in Mount Vernon, he continued writing and reading stories to his classmates. His teacher, Mrs. Green, told me the children would laugh but she would remind them that that is how some of the great stories that they read actually came about.
After elementary school, he went onto Salesian High School in New Rochelle, NY then on to Iona College, also in New Rochelle. He would go onto to work for several major firms and companies within the New York area, but his passion was to become a journalist/writer. Therefore, it is not surprising he decided to write his first book/novel.
Kipjo began working and creating a new superhuman universe, finding inspiration and solace in the loss of his first daughter due to an unfortunate miscarriage that devastated both his loving wife and himself; he began writing a hero origin story now titled “The First.”
He continues this story as a novel series and as a comic book series in the near future.
I enjoyed the first two entries along with "The Eye of Ra," but I have to say that so far, this is the weakest entry in the series. It was like the writer wanted to throw everything he had into this one, but couldn't gracefully tie it all together; as if he bit off more story than he could chew.
Sophia, the main character, practically took a backseat here. You spend a bulk of your time focusing on "The Regulators" and to be painfully honest, they as a whole are not interesting enough to focus almost the entire book on. I didn't care about their inner drama, their romance issues, etc.
Too many things are presented to the reader, not well developed, and dropped. He gives you a quick glimpse, and moves on. Should have taken a few things to really focus on, developed those, and went from there.
I was like 9 hours into the audiobook when I couldn't take it anymore. I feel like there is no focus here. It's just too much stuff that has no real development to it from the past books. The main character is only shown now and again and it's not in a good way. What is with this frivolous content that just seem to be there for the sake of page filling? I'm wondering where the author that wrote the 2 first books went because this is nothing like those. 15 hours long audiobook that you could have cut down to 2/3 of that time. You get a glimpse here a look there then onto something completely different. Also let's talk about how poorly handled the time jumping is in this book it's like half the time I have no clue when what is happening or has happened. Too much jumping around and no logical timeline. almost like the author forgot oh right I was gonna write about that well let's jump back all of a sudden that'll let me write it. Some of these things doesn't even make any sense. Who cares about the regulators inner drama and such. Also the fact that you can't stay on point with the story is 1 of my biggest complaints.
I really loved the other 2 books in the series haven't yet had a chance to read or listen to the Eye of Ra. I am sad over how badly this installment was handled and if this is any indication of the authors future work I will not be interested. I didn't understand the negative reviews of the last 2 books but this was a disaster. I really believe the author tried to hard to compile everything into 1 book. What he could've done instead was published a few side story books about the regulators and the whole Egyptian thing. I would have been happy to buy those books if he had fleshed them out more. But as it stood he had hardly mentioned the Aliens/Egyptians before this. Yes a few times it was mentioned but never fleshed out. So to make it 1 of the attempt focuses off the book that is suppose to tie it all together I can't make sense of that.
A tantalizing, entertaining, and heart stopping depiction of sci-fi. It was incredible and I look forward to the next novel. The growth in characters and the messages presented were awe inspiring. Truly wonderful Mr. Ewers looking forward with much anticipation to the expansion of this universe.
All I'm going to say is that its not a good day for heroes! I am learning that rooting for the good guy is healthy but they will not always come out on top! I am loving this vast array of characters from the Evo Universe slowly fitting together. The epilogue plays out like a classic MCU scene after the final credits (so stick around after the credits because Samuel L. Jackson aka Nick Fury aka Kipjo Ewers is going to save the day with another sequel)
Mr. Ewers knows how to write an action scene, I'll give him that. I must echo my fellow reviewers in pointing out the abundance of spelling and grammatical errors that made reading the story a chore at times. I like the Regulators so I wasn't bugged that they were the focus of the story. Starting up a new story at the end of the book, though, I didn't care for.
