Kids and I don’t get along. Never have. They cry. They’re needy. Don’t even get me started on the smell.
Then a baby lands on my doorstep—FAE Investigations—with her elfin parents. They claim a demon wants her. My first thought is, “Let the demon have her.” It would save them so much hassle.
But I take the case anyway. Then I discover things aren’t as simple as they look. Sure, a demon wants the baby, but for good reason.
This baby may turn out to be the worst type of kid.
Hi! I’m Ilana Waters, USA Today bestselling author of the Mage Tales and Dark Fae Decree.
I write urban fantasy for those who like it fast, funny, and fierce. If you’re into cross-blended creatures (witch-vampire hybrids, half-breed mages) and supernatural ass-kicking, I'm all over that. Ditto if your book turn-ons are equal parts creepy and action-packed (ancient cities, crypts, beheadings, bombs, etc.).
Demon Cursed (Dark Fae Decree Book 2) by Ilana Waters is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. There is fae, a goblins and demons. But the the story is about an elf judge that doesn't like babies but has to care for a baby the is surrounded by a demon. Simple, elf, demon, and baby! Well, it really isn't simple at all because a detective thinks the elf is guilty of certain crimes, which she is but not for the reasons the detective believes! It all gets crazy! Pretty good story!
Another fun book in this series. I think Justine is a great main character. She's definitely rough around the edges but ultimately she is trying to help people and it's interesting to see her struggle with the two sides of herself and what people expect from her. Also it's totally relatable to me that she doesn't like kids and has no idea what to do with one but also doesn't necessarily want the kid to be hurt. Roo is a great side character and complements her well, and I like the whole rivalry and semi-crush she has going on with the detective woman as well. It's a bit on the short side, but it definitely has a fast past and keeps you on your toes the whole time.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this fun book
if you are into magic, fae goblins and fighting then this is the book for you...
this one i found was a quick fun read, one that flowed really well and the characters came to life so quickly about a fae with some sort of evil side that investigates for her clients....in this one justine has to look after a baby after the mother made a deal with a demon...and that demon has come to collect on that debt...
how to save the baby and mom and keep everyone sweet....love how this author writes...and another one to add to the list of authors to keep an eye out for
Justine and Roo are back for some fae fun. This time Justine has to find out how to get rid of a demon that’s after a baby, and she can’t stand kids. This book was fun, interesting, and had some very interesting side characters. I did see the twist coming at the very end which makes me very anxious to see what’s coming next. I do have to admit that sometimes I don’t like Justine very much, but it isn’t enough to really derail my enjoyment, and, TBF, she does have a nasty dark side. Now begins the wait for the next one. This is a good book for those who like PIs, fae, and/or urban fantasy. I recommend this book and was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Another case for Fae Investigations this time with elves and a baby and demons! Tons of fun, action and twists that I admit I did not see coming, this is another great urban fantasy read in this series! Fab characters, I adore Justine and Roo and cannot wait to read more!
Justine and Roo are back! So are mayhem, action and drama! Poor Justine, every time she goes out she seems to get attacked and is sporting new cuts and bruises by the time she gets home. And this time, she has to protect a baby at the same time. Justine and children do not mix. The mess, the noise, the smell, the lack of sleep...is enough to drive anyone slightly mad but throw in Unseelie instincts and you might just have a homicidal rampage.
Justine is somewhat unique among main characters that have a dark side that is suppose to be evil or eventually evil. She sees the appeal of sadistic and evil for their own sake and not just to get money and power. She is also not afraid of it. Justine is trying to do good but she doesn't sit around bemoaning the seed of evil within herself. When things get tough she contemplates just chucking good and going evil. She doesn't beat herself up about it too much. Everyday she thinks about making the choice and doesn't necessarily have a overwhelming leaning to one side or the other. That may make her choices more heroic than the people who have a tendency to good. Well, it makes her an interesting character.
Twists, good fight scenes, and growing rich world of supernatural beings, and humor make this an enjoyable read.
A baby, a demon, and a fae detective - a story of magic and mystery (and not the beginning of a joke!)
The first book in the Dark Fae Decree series was an original story with an unusual heroine and her unusual sidekick. Justine and Roo are back and their new case causes all sorts of trouble, trying to discover what interest a demon could possibly have in Daisy, an elfling. Justine is not keen on babies but she seems to be the only one who can help Daisy so she reluctantly takes the case. Being around Daisy is dangerous for all concerned but that doesn't stop Justine and Roo, despite their office falling down around their ears, and Justine being battered black and blue by various assailants. Justine is still battling with her unseelie side, trying to keep the darkness at bay, but assailants on all sides do not make it easier for her. Roo is still obsessively cleaning, and a delight. Fenris is becoming Justine's confidante and a temptation, and he is a very enigmatic and interesting character. I didn't see the ending coming and the epilogue promises more intrigue to come. Let's hope that it comes soon.
I loved Broken Oath, the first book in Ilana Waters’ Dark Fae Decree series (separately reviewed), so it’s no shocker that I’ve been eagerly awaiting Demon Cursed (Book 2). Happily for me (and others to I will concede), it’s as wonderful as it’s predecessor. Justine Tam is back, with a case involving elves, a baby that’s demon-sought and more fun than a barrel of monkeys (though there are no actual barrels or monkeys involved). This is pure unadulterated fun and something definitely worth seeking out. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in this series.
Where do I even begin to start with this book? It took me for a ride and left me gasping for more. Justine is nothing like any other heroine I have read in recent memory. She’s dark and flawed, but she has a core of strength and (dare I say it?) humanity that push her to be better than her basest desires. There are so many wonderful twists to this plot. I never quite knew where it was going to take me next. My own Celtic heritage revels in seeing the myths and monsters of my childhood brought out to terrorize and fascinate new generations. I loved the humor, and the sharp turn this story takes right before the end makes me rabid to get my hands on the next book in the series. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
The world of the Fae is separated into normal fae and dark fae. Usually they do not mix, but once in a while they produce a child - no problem, usually. But when the "normal" fae is the ultimate judge to keep an oath and his child is the next judge then this spells trouble. Said child is Justine and as the new Judge she is struggling to keep her dark side under wraps. In this book, the second in the series, she promises - reluctantly- to protect a baby from a demon. An entertaining story, but for my taste a little too much fighting combat style. I have no problem with the fights per se, but the blow by blow descriptions are a little too detailed for my taste. Still a good enjoyable read. I received an ARC from the author and this is a voluntary review
The story focuses on Justine Tam who is an Unseelie Fae and a Judge of the Oath which keeps her in constant internal conflict. She lives in New Orleans masquerading as a private eye.
The story is filled with a lot of action as well as a good amount of character development. Roo is Tam's long-suffering assistant and brownie. There are plenty of other mystical creatures as well as a few humans with important roles in the story.
This book stands alone, but it does set us up for a number of future adventures.
Received this book free to read and review if I choose. As a long time fan of this author I have to say not her best work. The main characters, Justine and Roo, a nymph and a brownie, set up a detective agency for the supernatural community. The cases in this story involve children. Usually books by this author contain as many laughs as slugfests but this was just violence without much reason and not much to even smile about. It was a fast read with lots of action just a cookie cutter plot without anything new added.
This is an enchanting read that is well-written with demons, Fae, and a quirky, Unseelie detective who is our unconventional heroine. There are twists, surprises, good character development, and secondary characters in this magical and action-filled storyline. I liked it. I voluntarily read an ARC and this is my honest review.
No way ... baby! Justine and Roo had me in stitches most of the time throughout this story. But besides the humor and everyone a target for destruction around Daisy, this holds the audience in suspense up to the end. You never see it coming, nor the fact that the demons presence has been around since the beginning. Love this book!
My judgement on this Demon cursed book is that it is excellent. Some gory bits and definitely dark stuff with an excellent twist bringing it to it's conclusion with a little sneak peek into the third book. Love faeries and gory stuff then this is for you.
An action filled read. This is the 2nd book of the series and can be read as a standalone. I look forward to the next installment and seeing more of my favorite characters.
A well written and fast paced story with Justine trying to save a baby from a demon while keeping her evil urges under control. Love the characters and their relationships. Highly recommend.
What a story. A demon wants a baby, not just any. This particular one. Can the child be saved is something to find out. Loved it. Don’t miss out once it’s released.
Diabolically written! I loved the twist that Nocifari and the PIA threw into the investigation. And that curve ball at the end? Whoo boy! I can’t wait to see where THAT leads!
This book is full of everything I like about urban fantasy, demons, magic etc etc. Fully enjoyed this from start to finish. Couldn’t put it down. Another author added to my must read list. Roll on book three. Highly recommended
