I live with my family at beautiful Lake Macquarie on the east Coast of Australia and my favourite things when not writing are good food, good company, great books, getting outside in nature and travel.
Bookwise, I'm a multi USA Today bestselling author with millions of books sold, in English as well as in lots of other languages. I've won the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award and the Romantic Book of the Year (Romance Writers of Australia). One of my favourite review quotes is from Romantic Times which said in its review of The Sheikh's Ransomed Bride 'This is what a love story could be.'.
Interesting twist with an amnesia story. This time the hero has it and isn't admitting it publicly. When he sees the heroine in a brochure for a high-end hotel in Australia, he thinks he must have known her before his car accident.
Two years before, the heroine was kicked out of the hero's Italian villa because he thought the heroine was cheating in him with a sleazy business associate, when she was actually trying to fight off his advances. She returned to Australia, tried to contact the hero but was blanked by his evil stepmother, and ended up having his baby alone. It's a year since the baby's birth and she's finally on her feet with a good job at the fancy hotel.
Enter hero who eventually has to fess up to having amnesia. Once he realizes he has a son, he forces the h into marriage and moves the entire family to Italy. They eventually clear up all the misunderstandings from their courtship pre-amnesia for an HEA.
This one was nice because the hero fell in love with the heroine twice and didn't realize it until it was almost too late. Both the H/h were celibate during their separation.
This was a moderately enjoyable story, but for me, it was slow-moving and quite repetitious. I struggled to stay engaged because it seemed to take so long for anything to happen. Those two things are quite frustrating for me. I enjoyed the story immensely but the delivery was certainly not my favorite.
There was a: 1. Wicked, evil step-mother who kept devastating secrets from the hero and lied to the heroine that the hero was getting married to someone more worthy of him. 2. Heroine was led to believe the hero cheated on her by his evil step-mother. 3. Heroine was led to believe that hero refused to acknowledge their child. (Again it was kept from him as the step-witch tried to convince him to marry another because that arrangement would benefit their family financially.) 4. Before story begins Hero had just dismissed his woman-kicked her out-because he arrived home when a scene was transpiring in front of his home. An enemy of his was mauling his woman but he got so jealous that he thought, for a very short time, it was consensual. She was fighting for her life and since he supposedly knew the way of women and how dishonest they were he immediately found her guilty. He gave it some thought and realized that he had been very unreasonable and rushed out to stop her from leaving when he was involved in a terrible auto accident seriously injuring him. He has had amnesia for the past two years with no memory of the heroine. A real blank slate. 5. The hero saw a flyer with an ad and the woman in the ad drew him. His body knew her so he takes off to Australia. He finds her, begs her to tell him what he has forgotten then is unsure whether to believe her or not. 6. He is a hero who never regains his memory. The reader never knows the extent of his injuries. All we are told is he has a scar on his head. 7. He never recalls the deep love he had for the heroine - although he fell in love with her all over again.
I wish the story would have been either shortened or had moved along at a quicker pace. There were times it was a struggle to get through the slow parts but it was worth it in the end.
FYI: I have read this multiple times. Most of those times I was wanting more closure on the book. It ended with a decent HEA that seemed incomplete but I was left a bit dismayed. There was definitely unfinished business with the hero's stepwitch who seemed to get by with her wretched behavior and I had trouble reconciling the non-relationship/friendship with the hero and his beautiful childhood female friend that his family wanted him to marry. What I cannot understand is why he kept this friend/woman a secret from his live in lover and never told her where he was when he stayed out all night and she would later catch them on the property together. He would even take her out in public and not return until the next day just not showing up at home to his woman yet never explained anything. He explained nothing!! He said nothing to the woman he loved who lived with him. She was kept in the dark therefore she only knew what she thought she saw.
As much as the story tells us how deeply he loved the heroine, I didn't see any examples of that because of his secrecy. So why not share that with her. Why leave her open to the lies of his step-witch. He wouldn't believe the heroine but easily believed the step-witch would never say the things she did.
I won't be reading this again. I think I keep reading hoping for a different outcome and it's not going to happen.
Safety: Heroine Virgin Both Celibate for the two years they were apart. No OM or OW drama
Hero had been with many before he met the heroine. But, once he met her that was it for him and he remained celibate for the two years they were apart even though he had no memory of her because of amnesia. He felt like a big part of his life was missing....and that was her.
I'm not really sure if this deserves 4 stars, but hero was celibate during separation and since finding her back he had mini meltdowns every time he thought she'd leave him! I'm still swooning!
I'm estimating on the date I read this. Sometime in early June. It took me this long to get around to writing my review. This was well-written, I just wasn't that fond of Alessandro. He's a bit of the poor little rich boy type. Raised by uncaring parents, his mother left him when he was young and so he thinks every woman is a good digger. A lack of trust between Alessandro and Carys lead to the downfall of their relationship, that and his growing emotional remoteness from her. Carys is somewhat insecure, due to her learning disability and not fitting in with her overachieving parents and siblings. She was almost too easy for a man like Alessandro to seduce to fall into a relationship with him because she craved being loved by someone. That's part of why I didn't care for the way Alessandro treated her. The amnesia aspect was a bit of a twist, but it didn't really make me more sympathetic to him. I wish that he had to work harder to gain Carys' love than he did. Ultimately, he does show how much she means to him, but I would have liked more demonstrativeness from him. I did see a lot of sexual chemistry between them, but the emotional connection is more important I think. I did love how he supported Carys in what she does, in light of her dyslexia. The baby was cute as well.
Not a favorite of mine by the author, but pretty good.
Loved this story. Sandro was hot and i loved the way he loved her. I could feel their passion. The intimate scenes were erotic yet romantic. I am so tired of the New Adult genre crudeness and this was just downright steamy. Yes he had amnesia and the twist on this is that he never remembers. I really liked the scene with his unknown little boy trying to grab him, calling him my mom and then smiling at him. The hero's reaction was priceless. He fell in love with the baby. He did fight it but it all turned out wonderful. I really loved this story for some reason and I am so glad I read it. Great safe read!!! And I want a Sandro for myself.
The hero Alessandro is still coming to terms with the retrograde amnesia he has been suffering from ever since he was involved in a car accident. He comes across a brochure for a hotel in Australia and is immediately struck with the feeling that he knows the woman in one of the photographs. Unable to shake of the feeling, he travels to Australia hoping that maybe he will be able to regain some of his memory. The heroine Carys is shocked to see Sandro, she has never forgotten the way he threw her out of his life and refused her later attempts at contact. Even though she is devastated to learn about the accident, she can't help worrying about what will happen when he discovers that her baby son is his child. Sandro is rocked to the core when he meets Carys, he feels an instant connection to her and somehow knows she is telling the truth about their past relationship, and that her son is his. A life of being surrounded by avaricious people makes Sandro initially suspicious of Carys, but for their son's sake he insists they marry. But as time passes, and with revelations about the forgotten part of his life, Sandro begins to realise that what he and Carys had, and has, goes much deeper. He only wishes that Carys would trust him.
There is something special that Annie West does to what are quite well used plots to make them really enjoyable, and she has certainly done this here. I really enjoyed it. The relationship between the hero and heroine feels very natural and it is full of passion, as well as tinged with sadness. The amnesia plot could be a bit trite, but I was so pleased that there wasn't a sudden 'I remember everything just from one look in your eyes' moment. And I think Annie handled the hero's slow acceptance of his memory loss really well. The heroine is a brilliantly developed character, so strong despite all her problems.
This is a fabulous book; passionate, absorbing, and powerful. Recommended.
Very tropey (not trophy auto-correct) and meets many of the H-landia wants and needs: alpha Italian, secret baby, amnesia, dyslexia, cold mammacita, un-needed angst, rude in-law, and a partridge in a pear tree.
Once again, the hero is an ass-hat that won't give an inch to our little heroine despite pretty much everything being his fault. The only reason it's a 3 star rather than a 2 star is the heroine does give the hero the cold shoulder a couple of times although she does succumb to the magic P, but it's in order to stay with her son.
Have these women never heard of attorneys when it comes to signing a pre-nup?
Cute read! I liked how AW handled the amnesia theme and that Sandro was celibate the two years he and Carys were apart. Heroine drove me crazy with her insecurities but she was still a lovable, realistic character!
***THREE STARS*** This story was just okay for me. Feels like I've already read it before with all the other "amnesiac heroes", as well as "heroes who are utterly mistrustful because they were abandoned by their mothers" trope out there. These Harlequin authors need to create some new and original story lines.
Enjoyed it!Adored Carys way she made a life for herself inspite of being rejected by everyone, she is a very good mother and a warm sweet caring person.Sandro he made me angry in the start but later as the story progressed Sandro's character also goes changes and way he realizes his mistakes and regrets it,slowly start to trust Carys.
Absolutely enjoyed the way love blossomed again in their relationship inspite of misunderstandings and amnesia.Liked the fact Sandro did not remember till the end,he decides to trust Carys cause his heart says so:)Sandro was celibate the two years they were apart though the reason was not clear Carys thinks it was his accident but i wanted Sandro's POV on the reason whether it was accident or his love which he had forgotten which made it impossible to replace Cary with anyone else.
Overall a wonderful read Recommend it

Another 'memory loss' and romance, the development is nice, and I like how the heroine is quite reliable and the hero is a...okayish character? I mean he didn't go all Alpha Male on us, that's good.
Update@16/11/2023: I re-read it out of boredom, not a bad read still.
Cute. No Epilogue and He never remembers, which sucks because I think him remembering how much Carys gave in the relationship and what she was like would have made a better story.
Not a bad read altogether. Although, the baby isn't really a "secret" baby. She did try to tell him about the baby. It was never really explained why he didn't get her messages or calls. We are supposed to assume his stepmother kept them from him due to his accident but that's never confirmed.
This was kind of sweet in that Alessandro (Sandro) fell in love with Carys (whose name I hated btw) without recalling their past.
All in all a pretty sweet story but it did start out kind of slowly. It took awhile to really enjoy the story.
3.5 Really loved it compared to other Haelequin books this was good Foundation of the story was good and strong I saw most people in the reviews pointed out that they loved that the Hero stayed faithful for 2years even thou he had forgotten the Heroine. I would have loved if he had regained his memory thou but all in all it was cute and charming
So this is your standard secret baby Harlequin, with a few twists, mostly annoying. The heroine is a hotel receptionist; the hero is a prince/tycoon. They had an affair two years ago and then split up when the heroine was told he was sleeping with someone else. Shortly thereafter, the hero had an accident which resulted in amnesia for the seven-month period of their relationship, and no one filled him in on it. He spots a photo of her, is struck by it, and pursues her to Australia… where he proceeds to sexually harass her in her professional capacity, then blackmail her by threatening to tell her employers that she was sleeping with him, then presents her with a prenup (once the DNA test proves her kid is his) and tells her they’ll be getting married. Oh, she wants to refuse? Okay, he’ll fight her for full custody of the baby then. She caves, they marry, and he promptly attempts to consummate the marriage (because their kid shouldn’t be an only child, after all). She tells him it’s not happening and he retorts “Then you should not have married me…” Yeah, I’m pretty sure you shouldn’t have married him, chica.
Anyway, at various points the hero’s essentially just annoyed and irritable because he has vague memories of his relationship with the heroine and he remembers being happy and content with her, which is totally not something he would do, so clearly there’s something wrong. When they originally broke up, it was because someone told the hero that the heroine was sleeping with his business rival. The heroine tells him this and he spends the rest of the book refusing to believe that she wasn’t sleeping with his business rival.
I don't know what it is - whether I'm just not in the mood for a Harlequin Secret Baby romance or what - but I was really having difficulty slogging through this one. Part of my issue was the consent is always so, so dubious - it's not just "I hate you - but you're really hot so I'm going to climb you like a jungle gym" but "I hate you, I hate you" while the hero basically keeps pawing at the heroine until she gets turned on and he's able to successfully have sex with her. Super gross. Didn't want to finish it, so didn't.
This was an a emotional, and endearing, heart tugging story. Alessandro was in a car wreck, and now suffers short term memory loss, or better known as amnesia. There are parts of his life that is like a black hole. He comes across a brochure, and has the strong feeling he knows the lady in one of the pictures. He is hoping she can help him fill in some of the missing parts of his lost memories. He travels to Australia.
Carys was Alessandro's lovers. He sent her away, and she hasn't heard anything from him since. She left his estate pregnant, and he had claimed the child she carried couldn't be his. Now she is a single mom, working long hours, and doing all she can do to support her little boy. She is so shocked to see Alessandro. Before he told her about the memory loss, he asked where the father was of her son. That earned him a slap across the face. So many emotions bubbling up from both Heroine, and Hero. Once he told her about his accident, and lack of memory, she did fill in some of the blank spaces in his lost memory. There was lack of trust on both parts, and they had to work together to earn each other's trust. The chemistry on the other hand still burned between the two like a wild fire.
Alessandro never regained his memory, but didn't feel lost anymore. He loved being a father, and he loved Carys. Sweet story.

i absolutely loved this one! in the end at least! in the 1st part, you see, i misunderstood alessandro. he was amnesiac and we cud recall the past only in carys's POV. she gave me the impression dat he used her and was even ashamed of her, and later discarded her as he had to marry carlotta. which was not the case but the way carys felt. so i was, like, disgusted by the hero bcoz i did not know the truth at dat point and disgusted by carys as well as she cud not resist him. she let him have her (i'm talking about sex) after all she thought he had done to her!? has she no shame!? alessandro more than redeemed himself in the 2nd part. neway, i found out dat he was not guilty at all. clearly, carys "était à côté de la plaque!", as we say in french! lol!
Alessandro is the king of ice princes. I found his demeanor cold and hard, making this book hard to read. But true to form, Annie West throws in heartwarming tidbits, behaviors and cute nothings that encourage you to keep reading. There was a scene where he calls Carys a lair!? gasp! and I had to put the book down and walk away! I actually felt the heat from Carys's flush! awful! I then calmed down and was able to finish the book. Great book, a must re-read keeper!
Ordinary story line that was handled a bit differently. He was the one with amnesia. He sees a photo of her and goes to Melbourne to find out why he thinks he knows her. After he starts out as a typical rich blackmailing HP hero, he turns out to be pretty sweet. I enjoyed it.
I just couldn't connect to either the Hero or heroine in this book. Felt rather blah....with too many loose ends. I'm surprised because I usually love Annie West.
I usually don't like the amnesia trope because it's usually the heroine that has memory loss and the hero is an idioit that puts them both through hell, but this one was the hero who has amnesia and AW had my attention and I couldn't put the book down, not even while cooking dinner. This one has all the ingredients needed with evil stepmother, OW, who wasn't, and OM that really wasn't but tried. Both Carys and Allesandro allowed others to come between them and didn't have even faith in themselves to trust to believe they could have someone love them so completely. The story picks up 2 years after they broke up and Allesandro's accident that left him with no memory of Carys or their relationship. He saw a picture of her and knew instantly that she was somehow the key to unlocking his memory so he goes to see her at the hotel she works at and attends the masked ball. The chemistry between them is instant and hot. He learns of their son and doesn't believe he's his and after the test results prove he's his son he forces marriage or a custody battle. It's takes some painful conversations for the truths to come out and for them to really trust each other, but the HEA is believable. Their son, Leo, is just adorable!

The hero had it bad for the heroine even though he was unable to identify those feelings for what they were.
Our hero is suffering from amnesia. The amnesia seems to affect the time period he spent with the heroine. Of course we can interpret this to mean he didn’t want to recall the overwhelming love he had for the heroine(unbeknownst to him) since he let her go after making accusations about her fidelity. He sees a picture of a woman(our heroine) in a brochure and is instantly drawn to her. He seeks her out(his mind is blown and his pants are tight from his connection to her)finds out he is a father and spends the rest of the time falling in love with her again. Their love scenes are pretty intense. Our heroine is not sure she can trust the hero and basically believes he is with her as a convenience! Throw in an evil stepmother, a surprisingly different OW, and lots of misinformation and you have a romance!
3.5 Stars. I am always enticed by the plot of pretty much all harlequin stories. BUT!!! Almost always closed the books halfway ... when the hero started to behave so alpha-male-like, selfish without a thought to the heroine's feelings, just because he was rich. And also, the heroine was the typical doormat. Urghh ... that always irked me.
Well, this one was unlike the usual harlequin stories out there. Yes, the hero was a bit of an a**hole, alpha-male-ish, but the heroine was not a doormat. She almost gave in to her 'passion' the minute the hero touched her, but (saving grace!) she realized at the last minute and bucked up her resolution to push off the guy. Yay!
The story was typical ... heroine got pregnant ... hero did not realize he had a kid ... he demanded she went to stay with him otherwise face his lawyers ... yada yada yada. But again, he's not such a jerk and she got some spine.
