FBI profiler Kennedy Scott battles ghosts from her past, deadly obsession, and the evil that haunts her. The Seeker.
Famed Hollywood actress Veronica Ryan arrives at a red carpet event with her wife Shawn. They are the world's most famous gay couple—beautiful, wealthy, and by all appearances, the happiest couple in the world. But things aren't always as they appear. And someone is out to dampen the parade. A shot rings out and Veronica finds herself tackled to the ground by security, her wife lying next to her in a pool of blood.
Kennedy Scott used to be the best behavioral profiler the FBI had, but she is haunted by a string of child murders no one can solve. A single quote—Seek and ye shall find—was all she had to go on. The case has eaten her alive, and after her own family is threatened by an armed intruder, Kennedy retreats to be with them. But one phone call brings her back into the game. Veronica Ryan needs her help and the path may lead to the one who haunts her.
Ronica Black is an award-winning author and a three-time Lambda Literary Award finalist. Her books range from romance and erotica to mystery and intrigue, and she enjoys trying her hand at all. Ronica also enjoys drawing, painting, and sculpting. She lives in Glendale, Arizona, with her partner, where she relishes a rich family life and raising a menagerie of pets.
This is my 3rd book by Ronica Black. I love her style and her themes. She improves with each story. The tension buildup is good. The romance buildup is a little better. Then tension payoff is okay. The romance payoff is much better. I would have liked a more satisfying revenge filled kind of justice on the baddie, but that's probably just me projecting. Also there were a couple loose ends. Perhaps there will be a sequel to fix that. Overall, a treat for people who like their murder mysteries and stalker stories with a nice dash of lesbi romance.
This was a well cooked thriller story filled with multiple coincidences that i can forgive ...afterall it's fiction. Asides that, the subject was quite unnerving for me and as much as i felt uncomfortable by it, i guess if i could have that reaction then it means the writer did a good job. On the really downside, i feel the writer was unimaginative or inexpressive on the coitus actions of two women who have long waited to be together ... luckily she left this part for last so gratefully that didn't mar the book in its entirety.
Three scary and curious situations with one from a past event have plummeted two families into devastating and frightening scenarios. The fear that gets generated is so intense it pushes the two most current targets nearly to their wits' end. This is really powerful stuff and I was totally drawn in, riveted, and feeling my own nerves being frayed right along with the primary targets. Plus, we have one super ex-FBI profiler on the case, plus a host of other FBI and security folks trying to protect the threatened families from a single-minded stalker who will probably not stop until dead or victorious. Phew! Oh yes, this is my kind of story and this book delivered big time!
Kennedy Scott is a trained FBI behavioral profiler who now works on her own but gets called in by the FBI to assist on certain cases. In this situation, she was specifically requested and has her vacation rudely interrupted. Following and haunting her wherever she goes are devastating nightmares about a case that was never closed. Thirteen children kidnapped. Twelve youngsters found brutally murdered after being horribly abused. Kennedy is the best at what she does, but she pays a heavy price when she cannot succeed. I just adored Kennedy as I felt every pain and frustration presented!
Shawn Ryan was shot during a very public event she attended with her wife, Veronica Ryan, a very successful actress with scores of loving fans. They are America’s most prominent lesbian couple. One of those fans morphs into an extremely dangerous stalker. The stalker appears to want Veronica’s total attention and is willing to eliminate her wife and anyone else who might stand in the way. That sent shivers down my spine!
Kennedy is somewhat knocked off her pins as she finds herself very attracted to Shawn. This delicious subplot manages to pop up every now and then while the whole stalker operation hits one aggravation after another. Some astounding and extraordinary connections really added some spice and had me smiling from ear to ear. The hot and sexy action artfully threaded throughout the tense twists and turns had me panting. Smiling and panting are perfect, who can ask for anything more. Thank you, Ronica Black and BSB. This novel gets thumbs up from me, especially for Kennedy!

To start off, this story stumbled, recovered, then fell quite flat for me. It was interesting following the stalker's story, but I would have liked to delve into her background more so I could understand her a bit better. Though, with what the author gave us, it became clear to me what drove the stalker before all was explained toward the end. I did like this about the story because it was revealed over time and didn't pop up out of absolutely nowhere. However, there were some "plot twists" that seemed a rushed toward the end. It was like swimming from the deep end of the pool and feeling your feet scrap against the shallower end unexpectedly. During the last few pages, I could gauge what was going to happen with almost complete certainty.
Other than that, as much as Veronica should have been the character that everyone loved to hate, I found that I actually liked her character. She was crazy and impulsive and loved Shawn in her own particular way. It was not what most people would define as normal, which is why I liked her. Veronica was probably the most complex and developed character in the book. I may not have liked her as a person, but as a character she really held my interest.
Kennedy and Shawn's relationship was boring. BORING. The only thing interesting element surrounding it was VERONICA. Kennedy: the former FBI agent with a haunting past... Shawn: Dotting mother with celebrity spouse, constantly in the limelight... Should be interesting, right? I can't quite put my finger on what it was that really just didn't click with me. Though, I will admit, there were some rather cute scenes with the two of them.
“…She thought back to Shawn’s simple request. If she would’ve listened to her, this wouldn’t have happened. If they had stayed home, everything would be okay. But she hadn’t listened. Instead, she had put her family in danger by exposing them to the public. And now Shawn had been shot.”
“The cold hard truth was that Veronica had serviced herself. Had put her own needs ahead of Shawn and everyone else. She had done it for years. First with the fame and its demands, and now with the affair. It was time Shawn faced it.”
“She had paid the ultimate price for fame. She had paid with her family.” + • + • + • +
Its unique & captivating storyline, spectacular in its complexity, fluidity & intensity creates a very compelling & entertaining book. With a nice flowing effortless progression, engaging narrative incorporating such formidably vulnerable & passionately flawed characters made it an easy read.
Continuing with a good, entertaining story with interesting characters & hot sex scenes extremely well written… your only thought is—What's gonna happen next?
I dropped this book after the second chapter immediately after realising the main character would be Veronica's Damsel in distress wife and not Veronica herself. I'm really tired of reading books in this f/f genre about whiny weak women falling in love at first sight. I'm also sick and tired of reading about two femme white women - one blonde, the other usually brunette or a red head. The lack of diversity and the extent of whitewash in this genre is infuriating. Maybe I'm taking out my anger on Ronica and this book, but would it hurt to be original?
NEWS FLASH: THE QUEER COMMUNITY CONSISTS OF MORE THAN JUST BLONDE SKINNY ABLE-BODIES WHITE PEOPLE.
This was my first Ronica Black book, though a friend of mine has read a lot of her work and they've pretty much told me I've hit the nail on the head with this one.
I'm about to start "In Too Deep". I'll give you a second chance Ronica Black.
I really liked this book! Most of my lesfic is romance- that seems to be the most common genre that I can find. It was refreshing to find a mystery with a bit of romance thrown in!! Thought the writing was great, although about halfway through I pretty much knew how it would end, I still gobbled up the rest of the book. First that I have read by this author, won't be the last.
This is a tense read I was on the edge of my seat waiting for what would happen next. The characters are well developed and interesting. Thanks for a another good read
There is something emotionally deep and captivating about some, I will even say MOST books by Bold Stroke released before 2010.
In this book, I was enthralled by the rawness of the emotions and the plot was really well planned. The way it connected to both cases that would have seemed hardly possible; the strings were pulled perfectly and it was amazing to read it all connect in the end. Book was kind of dark, esp that identity on the villain, like break my heart softly.
It started off a bit slow, but it kept me hooked the entire time. The relationship between Kennedy and Shawn is sweet to watch grow. Loved the characters, especially the four children who added a lightness to the often tense situations in the book.
This was an intense book! It got me hooked from the get go. The characters were very good and well developed. The author evolved the plot all the way to neatly wrap it up at the very end. Talk about cliffhanger!
