NIGHT LIFE is another guilty pleasure in the VAMPS series by Ms. Collins. The plot thickens in the second installment.

Lilith Todd has learned the truth that Cally Monture seeks. Lilith knows who Cally's father is. After the two girls fought in the first book, they've managed to keep their distance at the beginning of NIGHT LIFE.

Cally has become friends with the Maledetto friends as well as Melinda Mauvais, one of Lilith's ex-friends. The foursome gets along great, while Lilith is still trying to find a new BFF, since her previous one was staked not so long ago.

Then, in one night, Cally's world changes.

During school, she receives an invitation to the prestigious Rauhnacht Grand Ball. It's strictly for the Old Bloods. A New Blood wouldn't dare show up. She now has to find an escort for the Ball and find a killer black dress. Later that same night, she has to fight off Van Helsings that are attacking Melinda and her were-tiger friend. When she finally staggers home, she is stunned to find out her father has finally made an appearance.

And Cally is shocked at who stands before her.

Lilith's life is also on an exciting ride. Things with Jules are going through a rough patch. It doesn't help that she can't have him be her escort to the Ball. It's against the rules to attend with someone that you are dating. And now Lilith has become obsessed with being the next big model. But it gets tricky because vampires are to avoid mirrors and cameras. She takes the city and fashion industry by storm, but her dream may come crashing to a standstill before it ever really takes off if her father has anything to do with it.

Cally and Lilith both are trying to create their own way, but it seems like their families are getting in the way. As the night of the Grand Ball draws closer, both girls will have decisions to make, and family obligations to attend to.

NIGHT LIFE is a fine continuation of the VAMPS series. The plot moves quickly and the action and intrigue is just as exciting, if not more so, than the original novel. Things are heating up as the night is young at the Rauhnacht Grand Ball.

Stay tuned for the next part...AFTER DARK, due out in July 2009.

Being a fan of the first book, Vamps, I obviously adored this one as well. :D Though the writing itself isn't the best, the plot makes up for it. Vampires being able to transform to an animal of their family as well as a bat. Two animals. Awesome. Nancy combines the classic version of vampires and the contemporary version of vampires. Classic version - transforming into a bat, roaming the city at night and having no reflections. Contemporary version - being able to walk around in the daylight without dying and vampire being the elite part of society.
I loved Lilith and Cally because they remind me of Gossip Girl. [Don't ask me how, but they do:] Lilith, the catty, bitchy, snobby rich girl and Cally, the innocent, nice, friendly not-so-rich girl. I love the fast pace action of the story and the one person I hate is Lilith's boyfriend. He's very weird and totally confused me. I thought he was supposed to like Cally but now he reveals his true feelings of Lilith? And Peter and Cally seem like the typical forbidden couple [they seem so cute!:]...like Bella and Edward [OMG. HUGE TWILIGHT FAN:].
Anyway, go check this series out because it's a mix of Twilight/Gossip Girl.

Leuke serie! Heel leuk om tussendoor te lezen. Het verhaal is makkelijk te begrijpen en zeer orgineel. Het tweede deel was even goed als het eerste en ik kijk al uit om het laatste deel te lezen!

The Vamps are back and this time there's a whole lot more at stake for Lilith Todd and Cally Monture. Lilith knows the identity of the father Cally so desperately wants to know and she's willing to use that information to get what she wants. As vain and ruthless as ever, Lilith has decided to go against the strick taboos of vampire society and pursue a career in modeling as Lili Graves, allowing pictures of herself to be taken! When this secret double life is discovered by her father the consequences could be more than Lilith anticipated. Meanwhile, Cally has more than one problem of her own. Her mother has begun to suspect that Cally has been sneaking off to see a guy. When she mistakenly believes it to be an enemy of Cally's father she calls him in and Cally finally learns his identity. Thickening the plot is the realization that her relationship with Peter might get them both killed—by one another!

As if this weren't enough trouble for both girls the upcoming Rauhnacht Grand Ball is coming up. Thirteen young ladies of Bathory will be introduced into vampire society at a debutante ball hosted by the creepy Count Orlock. Long black dresses, fathers and an escort the girl isn't romantically involved with are essential to attend. When Cally asks Jules, Lilith's promised, to be her escort the rivalry between the girls only heats up further. But maybe there's someone that could escort Lilith that can make Jules jealous and someone besides Lilith who doesn't want Cally there at all.

Continuing the story begun with Vamps (#1 in the series), Nightlife is all about getting ready for the upcoming ball. Friendships get more and more complicated for both Cally and Lilith, adding to the tension and rivalry. Romances falter and sputter making for wicked tension. The mystery of Cally's father is resolved but only causes more trouble than it was worth. Peter and his vampire slayers make much less noise this time around but their scene is some pretty powerful action. Lilith's obsession with her beauty and being the center of attention puts her life at risk and weres (shapeshifters) are mentioned briefly as part of this secret world.

A lot more fast paced, dangerous and fun than the first installment I thoroughly loved Nightlife. The label-dropping still annoys me but is much more overshadowed by interesting story and stronger plotlines this time around. I'm fast growing fond of the Orlocks and wish there'd been more said about the shapeshifters but I can see there being many books to follow to give us just that. Overall this one was a quick read, much more exciting and ended at just the right moment to bring we readers back for the third book, After Dark (due out this summer).

The book Night Life is the sequel to Vamps, it's about some very powerful teenage vampires who also seem to be linked in some way. Cally and Lilith who are rivals but both find out something extremly surprising, Jules who is a cheating womanizing manwhore who likes Cally but is dating Lilith, and Peter the Vampire hunter who is dating Cally. Lilith wants to become a model and will do it even if she has to deal with the cconsequences, getting her credit card cut off and dealing with her boyfriend Jules while grieving over the loss of ther Bestfriend who was killed by Cally. With the Rauhnacht Grand Ball approaching both girls have the same needs a handsome escort and amazing dress but with dealing with home and school issues they have to keep a sharp eye out
This book seems to have a text-to-text connection with the Blue Bloods series. I say this because both Cally and Schuyler one of the main charectars of the Blue Bloods series have something in common there enemies boyfriend likes them. With Schuyler her enemy Mimi who has a bond with her twin brother will do anything to make sure her twin is all hers which is exactly what Lilith will do. Both Mimi and Lilith are the popular girls but they are also the ones that end tp getting betraid and caught at the scene of the crime. Another thing both books have in common is that they are both about vampires and take place in New York City.
I gave this book a 4/5 because to me it seems like the plot is the same as vampire books that take place in NYC. It's like copying Blue Bloods but adding something different that Blue Bloods doesnt have. It has what the vamps do after school, it's like the vampire version of Gossip Girl. It's great over all but the plot is kind of played out.

Add "Gossip Girls" fashion, trendy night spots, high school with vampires and you have a recipe for a YA series.

The fashion details made me yawn at times, but it was worth it to see what Cally's new adventures were. I wish there was more about her relationship with Peter, a vampire hunter, and it was interesting to see how her birth father fits into her life. I hope that this series develops more because I want to see more about Cally and her struggles with being half-vampire and half-witch. I still hate Lilith, but it's better than the first instalment.

Borrow, don't buy.

Well, I didn't enjoy it as much as I loved the first one, but it was ok. I loved Lilith, she is my favourite character and in this book she was amazing but I didn't like Jules' personality. Even thought, I really liked it, it was so funny and entertaining.
Really reccomended

To me this book just served as a buffer between books that mattered. Yes it was good with enough drama to keep it interesting, but nothing happened in the book. The first in the series had a major plot, and as far as I can tell the third book will as well. I like the characters and their intermingling plot twists, but this is another fast easy read that serves as a break from the more advanced story lines of other series.

Argh! This series is such a soap opera in format - it stops right at a climactic point and you have to wait for the next book to be published to find out what happens! Unfortunately, the next book isn't due out until July 28th! I may expire from anticipation before then!

I did not enjoy this as much as the first book in the series. I felt the writing was weaker and I've never been a fan of the cliffhanger ending. I will read the third book when it comes out in July to see if it improves to the level of the first.

Now this book was a little bit better. It gave me a better insight of what was going on with all the characters. And I never thought that, that guy would be her father. He's like her mortal enemy! Can't wait til the next book.

After reading book one in these series I wanted to read the second book too. I wasn't disappointed.
The story continues. We get to know more about the mean characters in the book.
Only down side is the ending, now I have to read book three too. But I don't mind that.

It was a great second book in the series with a serious cliff hanger at the end making you want to read the third and final book immediately. I recommend getting all three books at once when reading them!

Great followup to the first book. The storyline jumped right into gear and did not slow down, even at the end. On pins and needles until I can get the third book in the series.
