She has written 26 books, including 12 ghosted novels, and the non-fiction bestseller, Dressing Thin, before her own first novel, Grandmaster, was a New York Times Bestseller.

Since then, she has written almost a dozen other suspense and fantasy thrillers, including the international best-seller, The Forever King.

Mooi fantasy-verhaal. Sam hoort al bijna zijn hele leven 'innerlijke muziek', maar de laatste tijd is het veel frequenter geworden. Hij wordt aangetrokken tot de zee, meer bepaald tot een plek die 'de Pieken' genoemd wordt. Wanneer hij daar gaat duiken, vindt hij een hanger die opgloeit als hij hem aanraakt. Nadat er nog allerlei nare en mysterieuze dingen gebeuren, gaat Sam een tweede keer duiken bij de Pieken. Hij wordt dan onder water achternagezeten door twee vijanden, en er komt ook nog eens een haai op hem af. Sam raakt gewond, maar ziet dan ineens een soort onderwatergrot die met hetzelfde licht oplicht als de steen in de hanger. Hij zwemt er naartoe...en komt ineens boven in een zee waar een boot vaart met mannen die een voor hem onverstaanbare taal spreken, en een man met een drietand doodt de haai, die ook achterna gekomen is. Sam wordt aan boord van het schip gehesen en er is één woord dat hij kan verstaan van de taal: Atlantis....en zo komt hij langzaamaan meer de weten over de Kracht, over Atlantis en zijn bewoners, en zijn ondergang.

Ik vond het verrassend hoe de legende van Atlantis, de Griekse mythologie, en zelfs een Bijbels verhaal, tot één acceptabel geheel verweven zijn. Van zo'n soort boek kan ik echt genieten.

This was a reread for me, so I already know it's good.

The story centers around a man who is drawn to the sea, specifically the "peaks." He and a few other individuals discover they share similar psychic powers. It's an Atlantis story. It was the first "adult" as in, not YA novel I'd ever read.

My memory of the ending was that it wasn't complete. So either I didn't finish the book as I thought, or my brain subbed in a new ending which I mis-remembered as the actual thing. It's been about 15 years since...nope, 16 years at least since I first read it. So happy I decided to find it and re-read it. It really is great.

This book has a lot of stuff that I usually avoid in a novel--psychics, soulmates throughout time, expositional flashbacks--but somehow manages to weave them all into a compelling story that's epic without being too self-consciously so. I gave it three stars instead of four because I winced at some of the more flowery stuff, and because I really hate expositional flashbacks, but overall I was impressed.

This is by far the best Sci-Fi I have ever read. I found this book, or it found me by God's providence, while i was working as a deck-hand aboard a ship in Alaska. If you now anything about this book, you know that is kind of surreal.

I have read the book at least 5 times. I read it in 4 days about 7 months ago. The story is just so engaging and death defying. It draws you into a world of imagination and adventure.
Molly Cochran and Warren Murphy are by far my favorite fiction authors.

A bit slow starting for me. Otherwise, entertaining enough, interesting plot, decent characters. However! Maybe this is a minor spoiler, but I thought the naming of the characters from Atlantis after Greek gods was a bit of a distraction. I think the story could have been told nearly the same with just naming them "normally". For me, this placed the characters out of synch with how I associated the names in my mind. So, maybe it's just me, but this is my review, so...

In all fairness, this book might be great for the genre. Just not my thing. It really held my attention until it went under the sea to Atlantis. I wish I could have gone with it. The descriptions of the volcanic activity were certainly compelling. I just couldn’t get into the obvious time-travel, mirroring of the the characters.

A modern-day man, from the 90s, that is, is magically transported back to the past and to the lost continent of Atlantis. There, he encounters the Greek gods. A fun story on an epic scale ( the book is 474 pages long) but it was engaging, for me, anyway. I've always loved stories taken from the Greek myths!

This books is by far the best Atlantis story i've ever read. I loved how they changed things, and put modern day stuff in a "history" book.. Making the "god" Greek, was very well written, I hope they put out more books like this

Pretty nice book, I did feel like there were lots and lots of different kinds of different myths involved in this story, so it kind of seemed a little chaotic to me. A nice read anyway :)

Inhoud: Wanneer bergingswerker Sam Smith in de buurt van de berichte Bermudadriehoek gaat duiken, raakt hij op onverklaarbare wijze buiten bewustzijn. Eenmaal bijgekomen in het ziekenhuis herinnert hij zich een vrouwenstem die hem de diepte inlokte en een vreemd visioen: een stad aan de rand van een vulkaan die op uitbarsten stond.

Nadat Sam uitgebreid is onderzocht, blijkt dat zijn bloed is veranderd in een type dat bijna nooit voorkomt. Sams geval is niet uniek: er zijn nog enkele anderen die hetzelfde hebben meegemaakt. En net als Sam waren ook deze mensen vanaf hun geboorte paranormaal begaafd.

Wanneer Sam zich in de voorgeschiedenis verdiept, ontdekt hij dat zijn lotgenoten dood zijn, stuk voor stuk omgekomen bij op het oog ongevaarlijke ongelukken. Nu loopt ook Sams leven gevaar en de tijd dringt. Wie heeft het op hem gemunt en wat heeft de stad onder water ermee te maken...?

Waardering:
Een van de oude boeken die ik heb gelezen. Een apart verhaal waarin ik helemaal in verdronk. Het was leuk en goed geschreven. Mijn sterwaardering komt niet hoog. Vooral omdat ik kieskeurig ben en omdat het lang geleden is geweest dat ik het boek heb gelezen.

This book is amazing, i read it 6 years ago (in dutch) and have been trying to find it in english now but have been unsuccesfull in my endeavors.

I can't tell much ofcourse but it is about people who figure out they are different than other people and they are drawn to a specific place. In the meanwhile an organization is hunting these people. Very good read, super suspensefull!

Did not like. It came highly recommended from a friend, so I was expecting to enjoy it, but sadly I just...didn't. The characters bothered me, and on top of that, now I will probably be too scared to ever go scuba diving. XD Awesome.
