Erica Jong, Eartha Kitt, Billie Jean King, Zoe Caldwell, Grace Slick, and other women over the age of fifty are interviewed in a collection in which they talk about getting older, sex, lovers, menopause, marriage, and other concerns. Reprint.
This is a nice collection of memoirs from different ladies of varying ages. They all have interesting stories and they tell them with a fondness and a realness. A sense of self-awareness and honest reflection looking back.
Overarching themes, from my memory of reading this years ago, are the importance of loving yourself and having the self confidence that comes easily with age but is so hard to find as a young woman. Many of the women in the book commented that they wished they had had that confidence earlier on. It was inspiring to know that as a young woman, I am not alone in my lack of confidence, and also to be encouraged that I am great and that one day I will see that in myself.
While the book didn't wow me, it was a pleasant and uplifting read.
Great book. This is a compilation of short memoir writing by accomplished women who were in their later years at the time of writing (when the book was published in the 90's). Backgrounds span numerous faiths, ethnicities, and socioeconomic levels. Most of the stories were both interesting and inspirational.
Highly recommend this for anyone seeking wisdom, especially women, especially younger women. There's a lot of really good advice in here and awesome insight from some wonderful Human beings.
