The Creeper

Rate this book
Something evil lurks in the woods, on the outskirts of town. It lives in the shadows and strikes without warning, always with the same to mutilate, kill and devour its victim. It's a monster with a cannibalistic craving for human flesh, and a sexual appetite which seemingly cannot be satiated. No victim is left alive, and the scattered remains divulge very little to the police pathologist. As the body count rises, the superintendent in charge of the investigation resorts to desperate measures. But soon, it becomes obvious that the police have woefully underestimated their suspect. A mistake which will cost them dearly. This book contains graphic sex and violence, and is not suitable for readers under the age of 18.

Really good story and characters but many many typos and errors in the text take away some of the fun of reading it.
There are also a few timeline errors and one major story line suddenly just disappears never to emerge.

Really enjoyed this book. It makes a change to read a horror story without zombies or vampires and the end of the world story lines. The Creeper was a one off tale of a "monster" terrorising a smallish town and the efforts by the police to catch it. The difference here is that you feel a certain sympathy for the beast as well as its victims. I thought the different characters introduced throughout were interesting and believable and all added to the story. There is quite a lot of gore here and some sex but it is not pornographic its a book for adults !!! Overall a really good read and comes highly recommended.

Some good ideas and description of gore. Some characters i liked, but most were archetypes or flat representations. I was really disappointed by this one, and i'm actually regretting the money i spent on it, which never happens to me.

There were some positives, though i found them few and far between.

A lot of sex and the womens pov were the typical "man writing woman" perspectives.

It felt kind of derivative of Laymon's Beast House series, but not in a good way.

There's not really much description of the appearance of the beast, other than it has coarse hair and talons. Oh and super sharp teeth. But these details aren't placed in relation to the body. For example, we will have the teeth described but not how they fit in relation to its head. In the end i decided to imagine it as half man half wolf (based on the cover art and also i wanted to read a werewolf book so...) but he could have easily been a deformed person like the cannibals in the hills have eyes. I don't need loads of description, but i need enough so that by the end i can understand roughly what it looked like. Not just teeth, hair and claws. Sodergren is really good at this and did this great in the forgotten island.

I saw the ending coming, especially after the beast raped Natasha. However, i actually liked the horror of the ending and felt it was the best part of the book. I loved the moment she knocked on the door and it came out. Very creepy.

It was easy to read, however parts were repeated. (Like the priest and how he worried for the woman being abused by her husband. I did not need a recap every time we came back to them.)

The characters are such caricatures that just one nights sleep after reading I cannot remember them. Except Eric the monster.

I felt like it would have been more interesting to read what happened to the priest when they were missionaries. That had more promise in my opinion, especially the part about Eric clawing his way out of his mothers belly. Ooosh.

Also, upon reflection, there is something inherently troubling to me about the origins of the monster being because of africans who drugged white missionaries. Not sure why but it bugs me.

A bad idea

I read this book in the vain hope I realised when I finished it, that it would improve. It is classed as a horror but really is just pornography in a different setting. And don’t get me started on all the editing and spelling and proofreading errors. Even if this book is free, I wouldn’t recommend it.

A Curse¿???

This author has indeed penned a GREAT READ. The plot of this story is absolutely excellent. The characters, the storyline and from the beginning until the very last word, all of it desires at least TEN STARS. THIS IS MOST CERTAINLY A MUST READ😢😮

Interesting twists

Every time you turn around, L'Estrange takes another twist. As soon as you think you're back on track, there's another twist or reveal. It's relatively fast paced but not in a way that feels like you're being rushed
