Deadly Decisions; A story of a young girl's hurtful past leading her down the wrong path. Mimi explores every day living in the life of a hustler. She expresses the known gang problem that has been televised and depicted in stories such as Boyz in Da hood in the California area. This street tale told through the eyes of Keisha Cones of dishonesty, fast living and the affects of gang banging informs as well as entertains. Being from California Mimi describes so vividly in Deadly Decisions , the highs and the lows of hustling and the gang life all too well.
Mimi Renee California native born in Compton and raised in Long Beach California, Mimi Renee recalls that reading and writing has always been her passion from as far back as she could remember. As a young girl she read aloud to herself and others for fun and enjoyed volunteering to stand up to and read out loud in front of class as much as she could. During her sophomore year in high school at David Starr Jordan High in north Long Beach, Mimi learned that she was pregnant and was soon transferred to a continuation school to finish her high school term out at Will Reid continuation, in a special program for pregnant minors.
Getting her life on track as a mother and not able to hang out with friends like she had in the past, Mimi reclaimed her passion for reading. She read countless books of various genres in her spare time. A few of her favorite authors are; Sister Souljah, Terry McMillan, Teri Woods, Nikki Turner, Shannon Holmes, Mary B. Morrison and Mary Monroe. Going back to her grass roots of scribed art suddenly Mimi had become inspired to put her passion for writing into action. After writing her first line on the page of her notebook, she was hooked.
Author Mi Mi came out hard with her first novel Deadly Decisions with the tale of the infamous Keisha Cones a sexy, independent, strong willed woman not willing to take mess from anyone not even her own mother. In the beginning MiMi Renee sheds some light on Keisha Cones upbringing that involves a little bit of everything. Keisha Cones is daddy's baby and loves her father to the end of the world and back. Now her mother on the other hand is a different thing; not to say she didn't love her mama but to Keisha her mom was the reason their family was a little on the dysfunctional side. Her dad was a drunk and her mother was an adulterer and for that reason caused Keisha to have trust issues. Something that a lot of people can relate to. I think the author did an awesome job introducing Keisha to the readers because we are able to understand why Keisha is the way she is today.
The background of the story is told out of California which gives gruesome details of gangs, violence and the block life. Mi Mi Renee did a great job describing how the gangs work, the slang used by the gangs and even the meaning of the colors. She actually made you aware of your surroundings, feeling as if you were there with the characters. She didn't leave you hanging and trying to figure what her slang words meant.
Deadly Decisions was indeed a page turner with twist and turns in each chapter. Mi Mi Renee took you on a roller coaster ride surprising you with some of the Decisions that K.C. was making. The characters were believable and not far fetched to where you couldn't relate to them. Even the men in the story Lil Boo and Cam had you feeling like you know someone like them. The plot was a great one, the story definitely came alive and had you wanting to keep reading to find out what was going to happen next. This is a story that I will definitely spread the word about and entice others to read. I will point out that the constant punctuation errors, misspelled words and frequent use of the wrong word such as your versus you're was a little irritating but it did not pull away from the story and the message that Mi Mi Renee was trying to relay. Overall I would say great job Author Mi Mi Renee!!
This was a good book. There were a few errors, but the storyline was good. I admired how that at a young age Keisha Cones decided that certain things that her family member did and put up with she would not stand for in her life. I must say that some people do not understand that what you do to others will definitely come back to you in one way or another. Some people have to find out the hard way.
This is my first book from this author. I didn't start off liking it all that much, but as the story went on, I was drawn into how Keisha and her supporting cast were going to fair. There were a lot of plot twists, and not so predictable turns that kept me invested in their plight. It was a lengthy read, but I guess I'm geared up to get book 2.
Newcomer Mimi Renee has told a compelling story. I am not used reading a story where the plot takes place in California. She does a good job at describing so I can picture as if I was there. I like the plot and there were some twists so it was not predictable. I love the way the book flowed and when I thought she made a rookie mistake and forgot to touch on something she went back to it and closed it out.
Keisha Cones has grown up in a household that might make some go insane. She is a daddy’s girl and daddy could do no wrong even though he is a drunk and gets no respect from his wife and step-daughter. Her mother Shanna is a trip and half and lets Keisha get away with a smart mouth that had it been me she would have had me picking my teeth up or swallowing them. Shanna gives new meaning to the saying “do as I say not as I do.” When Tragedy strikes her family and she has to step up and take care of herself Keisha does just that. After she goes through a difficult time of accepting the things she cannot change she comes out like a beast. Her name starts to ring bells as she hustles hard and makes waves. While Keisha has her own team her ‘boo’ is not so up to par and can’t hold a candle to her hustling ways. Her jump off uses her drive as motivation. As nothing good lasts forever when trouble begins to brew the drama begins.
I was not impressed with cover or the title. I didn’t think the titled match the book. I happen to know that this was not the original title and think the original title fits the book much better. The cover is different but I just don’t think it fits this book. The page count is good and for a new author 349 pages is virtually unheard of. I was left with only one question at the end of the book and it didn’t come up until the very last page. There is a preview in back for DD2 which I really regret reading cause I want it NOW and want to see how this story is going to end. With that being said this story did end and doesn’t need a sequel. I will be on the lookout for Ms. Renee in the near future
Keisha Cones is a pretty, smart and savvy young girl. Not only does she reside in the gang-laced area of Compton, she's knee-deep in the life.
With a mother that could care less and a father lost in alcohol to exist, Keisha's confidants Niya, Yona and Poo-Baby become her clutch. It's not until tragedy strikes that their loyalties are tested. What was once a united group of girls is torn apart by jealousy, drama and honor on their words.
West Coast Author Mimi Renee has taken a sound approach in her debut novel, Deadly Decisions. Mimi has brought a solid voice with the slang, body language and mannerisms of each character and brought them to life. For a person that may not have been familiar with the way a particular gang presented themselves, she painted a very vivid picture. It's easy to get lost in this novel and enjoy the activities the characters reveal, even up to the point of mimicking some of the verbage.
Mimi Renee has opened a gateway for a love of the West Coast, California lifestyle as you walk through the 'hoods on her terms.
For a debut novel, it has promise for a sequel, leaving the reader wanting results that answer questions left in this installment.
This was an amazing book. It truly took me on a roller coaster of emotions. Keisha was such a stand out character and from chapter to chapter I either loved or hated her. I loved the telling of her background. It explained a lot of things that she would grow up to do. Throughout the book I kept screaming to myself "SHE IS JUST LIKE HER MOTHER". Yet, she couldn't see that and held out to all that hatred. The same way her mom treated her father, she treated Cameron. I couldn't understand why she couldn't see the mind games Lil' Boo played with her which ultimately caused her to lose her family.
In the beginning I had such high hopes for Keisha. I really though she was would stay on the straight and narrow but she became caught up. She was so tough and just hood and it was so unattractive to me. I couldn't understand why she couldn't just allow her man to be the man and leave the game alone. Nonetheless, the book was really good. I would definitely recommend it. I will finish the series. On to the next!
SuWOO if you bangin...LOL!!! This is the first book that I read by Mimi...I must say this is a banger...The story is about Keisha, who is a young woman that has been through many hardships in her life, when she loses the person she loves the most, she is ready for revenge...but to pay for that revenge she needs to get her money up..So she starts slangin just to survive, during that time she was involved with Lil Boo, who is her heart and first love but than she meets Cameron who she falls deeply in love. Now, she is in a love triangle because she can't leave Lil Boo alone. All the while gettin deeper in the drug game, she finds herself knee deep in ish and all that bad she gave out, it is time for Karma to come back full circle!!! I love this joint, now I am on to pt. 2
Deadly Decisions was a great book. I enjoyed the book from the very beginning to the end. Deadly Decisions was full of action and kept me on the edge of my seat. It was interesting watching the main character, Keisha grow throughout the book. I thought she could have made better decisions but she was young and like they say "you live and you learn". Mimi Renee did well with the story line and kept my attention. I must say I was very upset with the ending, I didn't expect the book to end the way that it did but I look forward to reading part 2. If you're looking for a book that is full of love, deceit, and loyalty, this is your book.
While this book was definitely a page-turner, I think it was a tad bit too long. As I was consiering the length of this book, I tried to think of parts that could have been taken out, but I couldn't think of too many. I also wished the chapters were shorter. It took me quite some time read this book and I know with shorter chapters, people read faster. Other than a few grammatical errors here & there, this book was well written and you never know what's going to happen next. There is also a sequel to the book that I will definitely be reading.
Meet Keisha a go getter who stops at nothing to get what she wants and she gets it by any mean necessary. I'm so glad I stuck with this book just when I was going to put it down it all the action started and I loved every bit off it.This is a 5 star banger and it is a must read!!!!! Cant wait for part 2 next month.
Pops wasting his bro, then turning the gun on himself, that was heavy. The love triangle between Keisha, Lil' Boo and Cameron started to do my head in a little by the end. I was hoping Cameron would waste Lil' Boo when he had the chance. That would have been good, history repeating itself. Overall a good read.
I enjoyed the book. It reminded me of the Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah. Every character was well developed. Keshia was young and made decisions based on her enivornment and experience. The story was full of action and drama. I will be checking out part 2 to see if Keshia can pull it together.
The book, Deadly Decisions by Mimi Renee, is OK!!! The main character, Keisha, is grieving the lost of her father and making bad decisions. The story has some very good areas; however, some areas seem to drag out. Often, I found myself anticipating the story to move along. The book is recommended! Enjoy!
It started off good and only got better. I didn't care for most of the decisions Keisha made but we reap what we sow. Her first love was a loser that didn't want a real relationship with her but didn't want anybody else to have her. Interesting and intriguing, I will check out part two
Good read ,and the fact that it takes place in Cali made it stand out from the usual ..I only wish the author would have used more details and dialog instead of all the narrative ..I didn't connect with the characters ,but overall good story
Great read now this book was full of drama, lies, deceit, drugs, sex, and etc.. Keisha Cones was a true go getter even though she went about it the wrong way..this is first time I've read a book by this author and I must say she did the damn thing!!!
She saw her mother sleep with other men, behind her father's back until her father kills himself and her mother's lover,( his brother) her heart turns co l d towards love, she finally falls in love but puts her love at risk to be a drug queen and sleep with her ex lover
Keisha is the beast of the West Coast. After you finish Deadly Decisions you will be hungary for more and this book leaves you talking with your Sister/Girls about Keisha and her crew.. Great book!
Deadly Decisions by Mimi Renee was just ok to me. The main character Keisha is grieving the lost of her father and making bad decisions. The story line is good: however the story seems to drag out.
