Kaitlin has always loved books and loved to read.

As a young girl growing up on the New Jersey shore (yes, she is a Jersey Girl!) she spent hours and hours reading at the beach, out on the front porch, and in her bedroom very late at night when she was supposed to be sleeping. She would walk to the little public library in town and choose books as if they were delicious treats in a candy store. She read all the classic “girl” books: Little Women, as well as every other book written by Louisa May Alcott, the entire Anne of Green Gables series, and The Secret Garden, by Frances Hodgson Burnett. All of these stories took place in another time period, so different from her own life and that was very appealing.

Kaitlin fell in love with historical romances when she was fourteen years old and first read Mistress of Mellyn, by Victoria Holt. Even before she devoured every single one of her books, Kaitlin was hooked on historical romance fiction. She then moved on to the likes of the novels by Kathleen Woodiwiss (Shanna and The Flame and the Flower) which she read stealthily, when her older sisters were not home to see that she was reading their books. However, her all time favorite book was, and still is, Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind. Now she adores the works of Lisa Kleypas, Julia Quinn, and Phillipa Gregory.

Her love of reading translated naturally to a love of writing. She has written personal journals since she was fourteen and has adored every creative writing class she took in school. She actually wrote her first romances when she was fifteen, with her best friend. Sadly, they had no clue what they were writing about in those spiral notebooks, having no romantic experiences to draw from at that point! Most of those early efforts were tossed in a fireplace, but one notebook still survives to haunt her.

In college Kaitlin took a detour from writing and became a foreign language major, spending her junior year in Spain. And because stories of the past always intrigued her, she also studied history.

Kaitlin now lives in sunny Southern California with her family, where she is busy writing her next novel!

Q&A with Kaitlin O’Riley

On Writing:

How do you come up with the ideas for your books?

This is probably the question most frequently asked of me, and probably asked of most writers. I’m sure each author has her own methods of inspiration. As for myself, my ideas come to me in different ways. Sometimes I just close my eyes and imagine. Other times ideas come to me while listening to music. I often get inspiration from conversations with my family and friends. A lot of my writing, especially the dialogue, happens naturally, while I’m writing at the computer. The characters I’ve created will just start talking.

Why do you write historical romance?

Because I love the genre and always have. I’m also a bit of a history buff. Past eras fascinate me--the elegant clothing, the styles, the mannerisms, the confining societal elements. The past always seems more romantic and it has already happened it’s easy to idealize it. (Even when I look back to the 1980’s!) Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong century, but then again I couldn’t do without some of the modern comforts, like air conditioning and electricity.

Are your characters based on people you know in real life?

Now that’s a tricky question and one that could get me in trouble. I suppose most of the characters are combinations of everyone I know or have ever known. I don’t think I have ever intentionally based one particular character on one particular person. (And if I did, I’m not telling who it was!) However, I do use names of family members and friends for characters and even add the names of local places from my hometown in my books, for the amusement of those who know me.

Which is your favorite of the books you have written?

They are all my favorites in different ways. But I must say I enjoyed

Paulette Hamilton is busily happy with her bookstore and the soon to be opening of a new one when a charming man and his adorable daughter stroll into the shop and her life is never the same. One glance and Declan Reeves, Lord Cashelmore, and his daughter Mara and she is instantly attracted and drawn to the mute young girl. However, her family quickly warns her to stay away from him as is suspected of murdering his wife. Paulette knows that this man did not do what is being said of him and continues to see Declan whenever she can. They form a heated bond that they soon explore, even knowing that Declan has no desire to marry again. However, as matters progress, it becomes clear that Declan must return to Ireland to clear his name so that maybe he can have a future with Paulette after all. Returning to Ireland causes a whole new array of problems and it leads Paulette to him and a daring mission to reunite him with his daughter. Will this separation allow Paulette and Declan, and the rest of her family, to see the truth of their hearts and the truth of the past?

This was my first time reading Kaitlin O'Riley and I enjoyed her writing! Even though this is book four in a series about the Hamilton sisters, I did not feel left out and look forward to going back and reading their stories now. The story is not over fresh or unique but it felt like a nice comfort read. The relationship progressed nicely and the addition of Mara was well done and I really enjoyed watching her transform back into a vibrant young girl along with her close bond with her dad. I loved that the setting included a peek inside the workings of a bookstore! Declan is a handsome, solid Irish man and I think he was a wonderful balance to the quiet, smart Paulette. The addition of all the sisters and their families adds a real sense of warmth without taking away from the romance. I liked how the action plot and villain were spelled out rather quickly, that was a nice change of pace for me! It is always refreshing to see the evil plan unfold when you know who did what. Overall, a nice blend of family, romance, tenderness with dash of action. A nice treat for a cold winter day. I look forward to the final Hamilton sisters story!

Woot, onto Paulette and Declan! I've been hyped about reading this one since I read her daughter Mara's story a lil while ago. Looking forward to filling in the full story of some bits I've already heard about, and seeing how this little, tight-knit family of Mara's came to be, and how the full support of the Hamilton's and Co. will play into it all.

Finished!! What a ride, I was so psyched that this volume threw in a little bit of a mystery/murder aspect versus just Society and propriety stuff. I was already eager to find out more about the details behind Declan's first marriage and its terrible end, and I was definitely satisfied after reading this. Of course, the villains weren't at all hard to figure out, it was definitely foreshown more than once, but I liked how the characters themselves had to work to figure it out. I knew, but they didn't, so the journey of them learning the truth, exposing the truth, and coming to terms with it all was engaging and kept me reading on, anticipating when it would all come together.

The romantic relationship was well done here too, I thought. Sure, Paulette was always sensible, but you could tell she's always had a lil hidden dreamy streak, with her love of fairy tale books, and how she so admired the love and romances her sisters had found. Of course she would secretly want that for herself too, even if she may have thought it would never come, or that it would only hold her down. I was quite fond of Paulette here! I especially liked how she sort of, grew into herself, discovered that she could indeed follow her desires and do things for her own pleasure, and especially how she discovered the steel within herself, and a bit of adventurous, brave spirit to boot, when she embarked upon her mission to reunite with Declan.

Declan, ah, now I was very fond of him too. He wasn't all light-hearted, fun and charming (like my dear Jeffrey *wink wink*), but ya gotta love a bit of a dark, mysterious kinda guy, lol. It was nice seeing him come out of his dark and gloom as he and Paulette first became friends, and then more. It was like the sun finally came out for him, and I could see how little Mara would love seeing 'his eyes smile' again after so much tragedy and sadness for their little family. I absolutely adored the father/daughter relationship between them, their scenes together were sweet, and showed their deep bond, even with Mara being mute, without ever coming off as too cutesy or sappy. He came off as an excellent father, especially considering the norm for aristocrats back in those days seems to be very detached fathers who don't really interact much with their children, 'specially girl children. So I couldn't help but love their closeness. Then, when Paulette came into their lives, or more like they came into Paulette's life, the way they all came to love each other, not just Paulette and Declan with the romance, but Paulette and Mara bonding so well, finding an unbreakable bond... it was just cute.

Other quick mentions before I babble on too long...

Always love seeing all the Hamilton girls (and their guys) and Jeffrey all together, their family bond, the way you can feel how they all care for each other, and how they all come together no matter what to help and support one of their own, just gotta love it. Their support for our MCs' predicament despite their original misgivings, and most especially the way they 'rallied the troops' and combined their power and came to the rescue in the end so that we could get an HEA... sure, sure, maybe an easy out, but hello, this would not be an HR without an HEA, and other aristocrats in other HRs pull strings all the time, so obvs, it's to be expected, and applauded xD That's what these awesome and titled HR families are for, no?!

The kiddos, lol. Little Phillip and Simon, and wee Sara! Like, damn, that girl was just as take charge and 'let's do this' as a lil one as she was all grown in her own book, and I loved it. Meeting her as an adult first, and then seeing her a lil kid in this book was fun, like, her lil self was so perfectly like her adult self that it was neat. With Juliette as her mother though, I would never expect anything less :p The way she immediately just, like, claimed Mara as her very own bestie right from the get go, right from first sight, was cute af!

Jeffrey! Hello. That boy has done so much for this family that he's truly the hero of the series. He has helped every single sister, and gave so much of his love and affection to them, and done sooooo much for them... he truly is the best ever. I am sooo, sooo, excited for him to finally get his story, see him officially become one of the family instead of just an 'adopted' member. The combo of him with Yvette should be fun, they are both into the fun, social scene, and would definitely take Society by storm, but they've also known each other as friends for so long... It will be interesting to see how that friendship and 'family' type caring for each other will grow into love. So, I'ma hush now, and get reading! Only way to see how it goes ;)

This is the fourth book in the Hamilton Sisters series. This is Paulette’s story. Paulette, along side of Colette runs the book shop and has no plans to marry as she is happy with the business especially as Colette now has a small family. She meets Declan Reeves, the Earl of Cashelmore whose wife tragically burnt to death. Rumours start that Declan was responsible for her death to escape an unhappy marriage. Even though divorce was possible, especially for a man it would still bring shame on the family and most especially Declan’s daughter Mara. This story has so many implausibilities that it is was turning into melodrama. An example is the fact that Mara (aged 4) is mute having not spoken since the night that her mother was killed. However, when she does begin talking again, it is at a level far advanced for a young child. A major historical inaccuracy was the fact the it was Declan’s cousin Gerald O’Rourke who was responsible for the fire that killed Declan’s wife. His motive was that with Declan either in jail or hung for the murder the title and property would revert to Gerald and his wife Alice. However, Gerald was related through a female line and therefore could not inherit title or any entailed lands. These would go to any surviving male heirs regardless of how far back the family tree they are.

Just when I was starting to get bored with all these romance novels this book comes at me with a vengeance!
Besides your typical boy meets girl and it's love at first sight (which is a pattern with these Hamilton sisters) this book brings in murder and and actual villian!
Of course it's not a murder mystery (you know exactly who did it and how) but it was still refreshing to have a bit more plot in this book that didn't have everything to do with the outcome of the protagonists relationship.
Yes, if Declan was the murderer she wouldn't be able to marry him cause SCANDAL but they had other plans to get together.

I have enjoyed all of the Hamilton sisters books so far but this one has become my new favorite.

Not really my cup of tea, don't ask me why I bothered finishing it.
Lord Edgerton or whatever came across as creepy to me, and I disagree that Yvette was justified in disclosing Paulette's secret to him. So naturally, I do want to read the next book in the series to find out if they hook up. Or how, rather, since that they will is predictable.

Kaitlin O’Riley returns to bring her readers the anticipated fourth chapter in her Hamilton Sisters romance series To Tempt an Irish Rogue!
Paulette Hamilton, fourth in the line of five girls born to Thomas and Genevieve Hamilton is at the forefront these days in carrying on the family business, and quite a businesswoman she is also proving to be. Thanks to the love of books she shares with her older sister Collette, along with the whole hearted support (and sometimes resistance) of her other sisters; Juliette, Lisette and Yvette, the Hamilton Book Shoppe is known by all who live in the Mayfair district of London. So successful is their shoppe in fact that plans are in place for the construction of a second store, the name of which Paulette holds in secret along with Collette! Although busy with thoughts of the new store, Paulette finds herself distracted by the serious looking dark-haired customer venturing out on a rainy August day and upon entering the shoppe, she discovers her new customer is also clasping the hand of a reluctant looking young girl. Paulette prides herself in what has thus far proven to be an accurate ability in sizing up people however; at the words uttered by her new customer, thoughts of danger cross her mind. The search for a book for his young daughter is the purpose in bringing the mysterious stranger to Hamilton’s Book Shoppe. Along with the habit of taking careful note of her customers (which she feels until now is with reasonable accuracy), Paulette also has the ability of knowing exactly what her customers want to read. Speaking to the shy little girl hiding behind her father’s pant leg Paulette leads the way to the area set aside for the youngest of Hamilton’s customers. Although gaining nothing other than shy smiles and nods of agreement in response to the questions directed at her newest customer, Paulette finds she is curious (which she also suffers with oftentimes to her own detriment), to know why the child does not speak, even when simply asked for her name. The intense response in which the child’s father delivers his daughter’s name draws Paulette’s attention to him once again. Upon closer scrutinizing, Paulette determines there is more to this man than she initially thought possible and the intense feelings he brings forth in his direct gaze leave her at a loss of reasoning why. Declan Reeves is a man with deep secrets and Paulette cannot help but feel somehow she is the only one who can uncover them and bring truth to light. Once again, Kaitlin O’Riley brings her readers a story filled not only the colorful cast of the Hamilton family, but new characters we cannot help but embrace in the telling of it!

Declan Reeves has left Dublin, Ireland in hopes that his four year old daughter, Mara will overcome the terror of seeing her mother die in a fire. Many believe Declan, Lord Cashelmore, has fled Dublin because he murdered his wife. You see, Declan and his deceased wife Margaret did not have a perfect marriage. Wed very young, Declan believed himself in love with the petulant Margaret, but things deteriorated after Mara's birth. Now the handsome young widower is under suspicion for the deadly fire that took Margaret's life and almost took his beloved daughter from him as well.

Now in London with Mara, who hasn't spoken a word since her mother's death almost a year before, Declan enters Hamilton's Book Shoppe, and into the sights of Paulette Hamilton, one of the proprietors of the book store. When Paulette so kindly helps Declan and Mara find a book for the four year old, Declan finds himself attracted to the pretty young blonde.Attracted so much so, that Declan can't seem to stay away from Hamilton's Book Shoppe and Paulette, even though he vows never to marry again.

At first, Paulette, the fourth or five sisters, is of the same manner of thinking as Declan. Paulette, who has never had a suitor is not sure she will ever marry, but when she meets the handsome Lord, she finds the institution of marriage not so far-fetched. All of Paulette's elder sisters are happily married leaving the youngest, Yvette, waiting for her older sister to find a man.

When Declan's troubles in Ireland find him in London, he realizes he needs to protect Paulette as well as Mara from danger. Someone really wants Declan to go down for Margaret's death, but is it Margaret's family who are gunning for him to swing from a hangman's noose, or one of his own family members? You will find out once you pick up To Tempt An Irish Rogue by Kaitlin O'Riley.

To Tempt An Irish Rogue, the fourth book in the Hamilton Sisters series was my first venture into Ms. Kaitlin O'Riley's works, and I was pleasantly surprised. Sometimes when you pick up a later book in a series and read out of sequence, the reader is lost. Not so with this book. I really enjoyed how the author brought the previous character's stories into play without over-explanation or rhetoric. I came to like all of the Hamilton sisters and will be reading the previous books in the series soon. So thank you Kaitlin O'Riley for making my TBR pile grow.

Paulette Hamilton is the much beloved second-to-youngest Hamilton sister, and an avid book lover. She has been taking care of her family's book shop along with her mostly her oldest sister, now Marchioness of Stancliff, since she was a young child. Paulette is an intelligent, nice, and caring young woman, and is incredibly beautiful as well.

One day while operating in the book shop, Paulette meets the hero, Declan Reeves, newly minted Earl of Cashelmore, and his young daughter Mara.

Declan is a man haunted by his own past and rumors that he killed his first wife in a wife. This becomes the driving force behind Declan's actions to hide out in London with his daughter, and his reluctance to give Paulette the marriage she deserves.

This novel is fast-paced, and just as the attraction between Paulette and Declan is too sizzling to be ignored, so too do the threats come from the villain who seeks to frame Declan for his wife's death. The villain actually is fairly harmless until about the last quarter of the novel, and that's where things really pick up and Paulette regains her determination to help the man she loves.

I've read all of the Hamilton series to date, and this is sadly not one of my favorites. I've liked Paulette as a character since her appearance in the previous books, but the sister who was dubbed the "most sensible" actually becomes incredibly reckless in this novel. It's understandable that she would want a little adventure in her life even as she consigned herself to a spinster life, but she acts out of character so much in first part of this story with Declan that it's almost unbelievable she's the same Paulette in the previous books.

Declan, also, I had trouble with, because he constantly compared Paulette with his past wife even though it becomes clear from the onset that she's unlike any woman he's ever known, and far more different from his pampered ex-wife. He also does not act honorably as he knows he should, and has apparently no guilt sacrificing a woman's reputation and future for his own fleeting pleasure. This selfishness in character makes him less appealing as a hero.

Despite the character flaws, this book is still fairly enjoyable, and I recommend it as a fast read if you have time.

Bookshop! Books! Intelligent heroine! Resourceful, independent, loyal, selfless, ambitious heroine, who is also lusting after the hero of our story.

In fact, I think The hero is an interesting mix of serious and fun. And he comes across as positively swoon-worthy, too. His daughter is adorable.

The plot is decent, the characters believable. What takes my rating down is how things are described. For instance when we read the cousin's thought process, everything becomes clumsy and clonking, like flow has temporarily been lost. I already know he is rather dense from reading between lines and so having to read his thinking becomes cringe-worthy. But it isn't like actually stepping into that mind, but merely reading it from the outside, which is when I hear the jumpy metal wheels groan and complain.

The bookshop stuff brings bonus, though, because books! Feverish kisses between bookshelves! Sex in a bookshop! Oh my!

All in all a decent read.

Another great addition to the Hamilton Sister’s series. This story is about Paulette Hamilton who works at her family’s bookshop. She is a very strong and independent woman who has ambitions and goals. One of those goals is to open another bookshop. Paulette has no time for romance in her busy life until Declan Reeves walks into her store. There is an immediate attraction between the two and Paulette is also drawn to Declan’s daughter Mara. Rumors run amuck that suggest Declan killed his wife in a devastating fire that Mara witnessed. Declan and Paulette’s relationship must be kept secret until they can find the truth about the fire. Their relationship grows and strengthens during their time finding the truth.

This was the first book of the series I have read. I enjoyed it immensely and can not wait to purchase the first three and get to know the Hamilton sister’s a little bit more.

Loved this romance! The main character met Declan while working at a bookstore (which honestly, I can't think of a better place to meet a sexy guy!) and it was a very saucy romance. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but it didn't effect the reading experience. It kept my interest the entire way through the book and I will be looking into reading more by this author.
