This felt like a filler episode where we just spend a day with the characters. It’s fine but not very exciting or particularly interesting.

Overall not as good as the previous two volumes.
Sure, we get to see more about what the Goblin Slayer does in his spare time, and what he does with two women who are interested in him, but it's more or less the same stuff we have come to expect from this series.
The look into the guild was nice, and gave a good little bit of world building when it came to that. Personally I always find these things fascinating as I grew up with Western fantasy where quests came from hearsay and usually some defining moment, not from a guild that takes everyone's requests. So I am always happy to see how a writer takes this concept and runs with it.
We also get a good look at what happens to those who break guild rules, so that was also a treat, and it even comes around to make things full circle which wrapped up certain events beautifully.
That said, we are introduced to a new kind of monster, one that should be scary and more powerful than anything they have fought before and won. (without using a trick or two) Instead, I felt he got beaten pretty easily, and that the action at the end with this new bad and the goblins was tossed in so readers wouldn't get angry that this book contained no fighting.
In the end, this was just an average story. A few interesting details but nothing more. I am hoping the fourth volume does something interesting, or if it will keep going further and further away from the first volume that hooked many because it was something different than your normal fantasy story.
I guess time will tell...

Slice of life with a dash of battle. Currently feels a little weak due to the light heartness in its first half, and how our MC sees to be involved in these settings dealt by fate. Lack of names remind you that the characters are still rather generic, but this volume and perhaps onwards might fix that, depending on the author. Hampered by the fact that the MC is a man of few words.

This was a fun one, spending more time with simple character interactions during a festival. It’s a new scenario for the D&D style heroes and an unexpected one. It also delves slightly into a harem comedy, what with all the female characters being inexplicably in love with the Goblin Slayer.

This was really nice, I appreciate a little break from all-goblin books, so having a little calm and quiet along with a harvest festival was just perfect before facing terrifying goblins again. And I actually enjoyed the little twist in this one. It was quite interesting to say the least, definitely by what I was expecting for a foe. I've also got a chance to see our little part way more united now. They can read each other better and their strategy is improving tons.

Having watched the anime and read the manga this book, for me at least, is what comes after.
This was another great read, but the pace was a little slower than the previous light novels, not to say it was bad simply different.
This book covered the Autumn Festival and it was interesting to see Goblin Slayer in social events rather than in depths of a cave or the tunnels of a sewer. Seeing the changes to personality of Goblin Slayer is rather nice, to show that his companions are having an effect on him.
I look forward to see more adventures in the next set of light novels and only hope that the anime and manga will eventually catch up.

Okay guys, we're slowing down a bit for this volume. Volume three has us meandering through the daily life of our characters, checking out some romance, checking out a Fair...it's the calm before the storm. Most of this volume is quite quiet, there's not much action for the majority of the book and I didn't feel like the mystery element in this volume was as pronounced as the others.

Like I said, we do a couple of loops around the fair, see some romance developing between a couple of characters and our dear Goblin Slayer has two potential relationships. Towards the end of the volume everything comes together as the tension rises and there was an epic battle scene! I wasn't sure how I felt having such a quiet volume, but the build up towards the end was fantastic, right before it explodes in to action!

Goblin Slayer is becoming more hilarious to me with each volume. He's so obtuse and oblivious, and so focused on his goal he doesn't really see anything else. It makes for an interesting romantic situation in this volume in particular and I was face palming at him more than once. I mean...he ends up going on two dates with two different girls and not realising quite what was happening, I'm fairly sure. If something he said was anything to go on.

The interludes provided some intrigue featuring a famous Sword Maiden in trouble, before swiftly getting more and more creepy, and then morphing in to being interesting again. There's a great link to the previous volume, and the Priestess is really starting to come in to her own! I'm loving her more and more and rooting for her to become a complete badass! I'd love to see more of High Elf Archer too, she's the source of most of the humour in the volumes for me!

Goblin Slayer vol 3 gives us a calmer journey, as our heroes take a break to enjoy a fair, there's some romance in the air that most likely won't end well, and there's mysterious goings on in the Interludes. I did find this a bit slow in places, but the plot threads came together to break the calm as we exploded in to action and our group had quite the epic battle. We got to see more of Priestess this volume as she grows more and more as a character and GOBLIN SLAYER TOOK HIS HELMET OFF. Yep. You read that right. We even get an illustration, not that it showed his face! But still.

Different, but still Goblin Slayer

The first novel was a series of goblin slaying quests, and more practically, an introduction into the world. The second was a long quest, and read just like a TTRPG session would.

This is a little different. It focuses most on character building, especially with side characters rather than the main cast. Essentially revolving around a harvest festival, Goblin Slayer does his thing as two girls attempt to date him - it's amusing, but not action-packed.

I intend no harm with a 3-star rating, but if you came from the first and second novels expecting more TTRPG style questing, you won't find much here. Enjoyable for the unwavering fanase (of which I am very much onboard with), but for a reader who wants a DnD story, or who came from the first two novels, volume 3 won't make your ends meet.

Unlike the first two installments, in which Golbin Slayer kills all the goblins he can, the third light novel takes a step back from the blood-soaked action and introduces us to some key secondary characters, notable Guild Girl and Cow Girl, and how they interact with Goblin Slayer (and how he does not interact with them).

Goblin Slayer, both the anime and the light novels, became a slice of life series so slowly no one seemed to notice. That is not to denigrate either Goblin Slayer or slice of life, just that it was not what you expect from the title.

To no one's surprise, this one leans toward the 'harem' trope, with the town festival coming up and all the women in his life vying to get some non-goblin slaying time in with Goblin Slayer.

Some of the character stuff is decent, but it's VERY harem-ish, which is not a trope I enjoy. There was definitely less D&D stuff in this one, but we did get a good fight which showed off some fun traps and some rules-lawyering that anyone that's played before will immediately recognize as the sort of thing that happens in every game session.

Great sequel.

Good story and plot. Really enjoy this sequel. Already git use to the lack of names, unfortunately it won't change but it rest a little bit if personality. Also, the main character seems stagnant, doesn't evolve through the serie.

The overall story doesn't progress much. Hero goes on a couple of dates, and then the last chapters are quality Goblin Slayer. Although I enjoyed it, can't give it more than 3 stars because it just didn't have a good plot!

I overall enjoy the writing style of this series, it uses a lot of descriptive wording and 3rd party narrative which I like a lot. That being said I was hoping for a little more character progression then we've been getting so hopefully volume 4 is a step in that direction.

It was ok, it is a fairly straight forward read. It wasn't a challenging read but was engaging enough for me to finish. Didn't engage me enough to want to keep moving with the series right now. The first two books kept me more interested and kept me going on the series.

These books are formulaic and easy to read. Any DnD fan would enjoy them. The author does have some quirks, but the characters are coming along. I will keep reading.

It is so fun to look at what other people think of books you like a lot or dislike a lot. Not that people are hating on this one, but several others mentioned it wasn't as good because of the Festival and the "dates" Goblin Slayer goes on taking up a large portion of the book. Which for me is one of the reasons I liked it so much. Not that I dislike the goblin slaying, but it was a pleasant change and let us see more of the world than JUST the slaying... and to me did it in a way that didn't totally derail the series (and didn't write several 800+ page volumes where nothing important happens to do it).

And we aren't lacking in the the goblin slaying. We get a number of smaller skirmishes and a reasonable battle where we see that there is more to the recent goblin incursions than just the typical behavior.

So far my favorite of the light novels. I hope the story continues to move forward and while retaining goblin slaying allows for some growth for all our characters.

Verdict: A fine entry to the series, should not be missed.

This third volume covers the Harvest Festival, the fight against the Dark Elf as well as the side story from the Hero's part of the story. Have to say that this was yet another of my favourite arc, but I guess since most of my favourite parts would involve Goblin Slayer and Priestess... I guess you can say that it wasn't that hard to please me.

I've read the manga version of this particular plot, so reading it again in novel form was fun. And I love reading all of the inner monologues of the characters that may not be included in the manga version. It made me wanna look forward to seeing how the scenes could come to life in anime form! That said, I'm glad that the novel included a bit more details for the Hero's party side of the story. It was interesting to read those parts as well as the tiny bit between Illusion and Truth.

I really loved the illustrations in the novel, especially on the Priestess.

Admittedly I got a little bored halfway through this, it was a bit slow without a lot of action, but then it picked up really well towards the end and there was an interesting villain and bossfight so I'm still really happy with it. Hmmm...

I remember thinking earlier that the story had to have more things happen, like, it felt like it wasn't really going anywhere, but then like I said we got to the goblin killing and then I was happy, I really think that the author needs to lean into his strengths and maybe try to develop the characters and relationships around the action, that's my one critique, basically.

I still really love your work Kumo! Can't wait to see more of this adapted into the anime!

Got to say that this is starting to get very interesting. I enjoy the way the author is slowly showing us the larger world that Goblin Slayer and his friends live in and dropping clues as to the nature of the very reality of their world. As an RPG nerd, I very much enjoyed the D&D easter egss that were thrown and I can't help but wonder if that's going to play a larger role in the world. Can't wait to drop by my local bookstore and pick up the next volume. Also the artwork was phenomenal.

For the lovers of this Manga/Light Novel/Anime.

Good translation, easy reading, and good art.

The action is reserved at the very end of the book, so many action lovers would have to endure the first chapters that are dedicated to character development and their relation with Goblin Slayer.

Engaging, good pace and nice time; fully recommended

It has been six years since I read the first two volumes. I had to go back and watch the anime to refresh myself before picking up the third volume. Luckily the anime covers the first two books so it worked out perfectly.

Definitely skippable if you don't care for slice of life stuff, but I really enjoyed seeing Goblin Slayer on an off day. It was also pretty interesting how his two dates treated him. There is some action during the last 50 pages or so.

A good third installment on the Goblin Slayer series. I can understand why this wasn't adapted to anime (or just yet), as this was more about a festival than about goblin slaying.
Still, I enjoyed the book.
