When Walker Elementary is threatened by a hurtling space rock, Ms. Frizzle and her students launch a field trip into outer space aboard a transformed Magic School Bus space ship, where they learn about asteroids, comets, and more. Original.
Joanna Cole, who also wrote under the pseudonym B. J. Barnet, was an author of children’s books who teaches science.
She is most famous as the author of The Magic School Bus series of children's books. Joanna Cole wrote over 250 books ranging from her first book Cockroach to her famous series Magic School Bus.
Cole was born in Newark, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby East Orange. She loved science as a child, and had a teacher she says was a little like Ms. Frizzle. She attended the University of Massachusetts and Indiana University before graduating from the City College of New York with a B.A. in psychology. After some graduate education courses, she spent a year as a librarian in a Brooklyn elementary school. Cole subsequently became a letters correspondent at Newsweek, and then a senior editor for Doubleday Books for Young Readers.
I read this book aloud while teaching about space to a 2nd grade room for students in Kenya. The students loved this book and looking at the illustrations on every page. The book paired really well with the Skyview app to go stargazing with the students whenever they wanted to explore the solar system.
Ms. Frizzle takes her class on an exciting adventure to outer space. While in outer space they explore meteors, comets, and the moon. Ms Frizzle takes her student on an adventure that is out of this world. This magic school bus adventure lets its readers imagination explore how it could be like on the moon or what meteors might look like before they hit earth's surface. These books are great for readers to get out there and think out of the box.
Fun Magic School Bus book about all kinds of space rocks: meteors, comets, asteroids, meteorites, etc. It's a typical story in the series and offers a lot of information in an entertaining format. I like these books, because I often learn some new bit of information and the stories are fun to read aloud. Our girls just love them and will pick them first when choosing a book at bedtime.
This is a good 4th grade book because it talk about space. The focus is more about their adventure and learning about gravity. It has great illustrations and details about gravity and how it works. It is non-fiction.
