This is a very detailed and specific guide. There were only one or two places where explanation could have been better, but I don't believe it was detrimental to the success of the project. Indeed, the book succeeds in providing a great understanding of the processes involved with all aspects of both the building and the operation of the furnace; and provides wisdom and tips for the amateur's safe success in this undertaking. The illustrations are well-drawn, and give the reader confidence in the feasibility of the build.

A good walkthrough of how to build one specific type/design of gas fired furnace. I liked that he included recipes for diy refractory and kiln wash based on easily accessible materials as well as discussed the differences between working with each metal you might cast with. I also liked how much he emphasized the planning you need to do to prepare to pour. I do wish he had explained why he selected a powered blower over a naturally aspirated burner, and discussed some performance aspects in more depth. Still, of you are interested in melting metal, this is a great book to read.
